¡UNO! Album

It definitely sounds like a part of something rather than a finished whole. The guitar tone is pretty much exactly the same in all of the songs, which gets a little bit boring, and there's kind of a feeling of filler songs with a couple of the tracks (THIS IS THREE ALBUMS WORTH OF MATERIAL, only release it if it's not filler!). I LIKE it, but at this point I'm going to say that this might have been stronger as a double album. But we'll see! I'm excited to hear the other two albums. I'm gonna go back to listening to the album now :)

To clarify, this is only my first listen, so maybe it'll grow on me more.

Man it's nice to actually see positive repsonses about the album. The blink site I usually go to is full of cynical pricks.

I said before that they've always made "relevant" albums, they've always brought records out that do something the last one didn't and I'm glad that Uno has proven to be another one. It's coming from a great place, far from the pressure to follow up a classic that brought about 21st Century Breakdown. Another thing I haven't seen mentioned, it's more confident. I think there's a lot less self doubt on Uno as there is on the early albums. Which is great, as Billie-Joe says in the Guitar World interview, he's been documenting his feelings in songs for so long. It's interesting to hear that progression and hear him sing about stuff with a different angle than before.

I think the album is pretty consistent. I am so glad that Carpe Diem has turned out to be tolerable (and actually friggin catchy), because I was expecting it to be cringeworthy and have a play count that remained at 1. There are a few outstanding songs. Stay The Night seems to be the favourite, and I agree it's up there. It's brilliantly constructed, and the "hey-oh" and ending give it a great vibe like a live song. Rusty James is the other perfect song on the album in my opinion. Someone mentioned it's like the sequel to 86, and I like that idea (especially as 86 is one of my all time favourites), as it's sung from the point of view that 17 years later, he's pretty fucking happy with what he's become.

I also love Kill The DJ even though a lot of people don't seem to. Nuclear Family gets better every time I listen to it. Fell For You and Angel Blue both evoke the Beatles and Stones respectively, which is fine by me. And the "you're all crazy" part of Loss Of Control is fun.

I feel I have to mention the Troublemaker solo, it came as a breath of fresh air since I didn't think too much of the song up until that point. I immediately thought of The Guess Who's 'American Woman' and having just read the Guitar World interview I was happy to be proven right. :D Every time the intro to Troublemaker starts I can't help but play the D and E chords in my head for the start of Fuck Time.

I think it's too early to rate the thing properly, I loved 21st Century Breakdown for the big mashup of styles when it first came out and because it was the first new Green Day in 5 years, but now although I like parts of it, I consider it bloated and self-indulgent so I will wait to let the dust settle before deciding how I really feel about it. But first day's impressions are really positive.

TL;DR Stay The Night & Rusty James the highlights, too early to rate the album properly yet but first impressions are good.

What I find most interesting about this album is that everyone seems to have a different favourite, which is awesome. There isn't just one song that everyone likes, a different song stands out to everyone and I find that pretty cool. Didn't seem that way with 21CB but maybe that's just me.

Have only listened to it once, I loved it. Wouldn't say as much as American Idiot from the first listen, or Dookie for that matter, but it beats my first impressions of 21st century breakdown. Let's see how this one grows on me :)

And PS, my fav is "Fell for you"

I think I've listened to it enough now to do a ranking: 1 being my most favorite and 10 being the least.

1.) Stay the Night

2.) Sweet 16

3.) Rusty James

4.) Nuclear Family

5.) Kill the DJ

6.) Fell For You

7.) Carpe Diem

8.) Let Yourself Go (I think I've burned myself out on it by this point)

9.) Loss of Control

10.) Oh Love

11.) Angel Blue (I think I'm the only one who doesn't love this)

12.) Troublemaker

I'd disagree but that's just my opinion.

I'll go ahead and post my individual track ratings now too.

1. Nuclear Family

2. Stay the Night

3. Fell for You

4. Rusty James

5. Loss of Control

6. Troublemaker

7. Kill the DJ

8. Carpe Diem

9. Oh Love

10. Let Yourself Go

11. Angel Blue

12. Sweet 16

The lyrics to Angel Blue and Sweet 16 get pretty bad at moments, not gonna lie. After listening to this album like 25 times I can sy that my only problem is the lyrics - they're really lazy at parts. Nuclear Family and Stay the Night have the potential to become classic GD songs that are playead at every show, same with Rusty James. I have a huge softsport for Fell for You so that's why I like it more but if I had to say what I thought were the most impressive tracks on the album I'd go with Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Rusty James and Kill the DJ.

So.....Loss of Control is Crushing Bastards I take it. That's good. I just hope Dreamcatcher is featured on Dos or Tre under a new name.

I've kinda just assumed Crushing Bastards was renamed as Dirty Rotten Bastards and that it's going on Tre.

I assumed Loss of Control was Crushing bastards because in the chorus, they say "crushing bastards".

Favorite song so far would be Stay the Night, still don't understand why Oh Love was a single thought

It ties the album together nicely but i don't see it as a strong lead single

Sooooo excited for friday!!!

I had assumed the same thing, but "Loss of Control" is definitely "Crushing Bastards". It probably got the name change to avoid confusion with DRB.

Yeah, true. I never really thought of it like that but that makes sense. It's not exactly strange that there would be two songs with Bastard in the title as Billie Joe is a lazy one of 'em himself. Loss of Control is a good song title anyway.

Whatever happened to State of Shock?

I'm hoping State of Shock got a name change too because it's one of my favorites from the secret show audio tracks... I'm pretty sure it's the third song here even though it's mis-labeled as Little Boy Named Train there. You can hear Billie say "This one's called State of Shock..."

Green Day never lets down. Love the new songs. I can't pick a favorite, but ones that I don't play on repeat are as follows: Angel Blue and Troublemaker. but those two are growing on me. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

I think by now I've definitely figured out my favorites. I'm not gonna rate the entire album though. lol

My favorites are Rusty James, Stay The Night, and Sweet 16.

My least favorites are Troublemaker, Loss of Control, and Angel Blue.

Everything else just falls in the middle.

I'm still debating whether I want to stream this or not. Even though the band has now put the album out through facebook.

Damn, I should have quoted that guy talking about the Blink threads being too cynical.

Hard not to be cynical when your band have turned into making shit music!

It's nice to be able to hold a bit of ground against other bands now that iUno! rocks everyones pants off.
