Comrade
I reckon I'll do a blog about my full thoughts, I've only listened to it through once so far and up to Fell For You twice, but my instant reaction was one of being completely head over heels in a way 21cb didn't grab me. What AI and 21cb was grab your mind - they were cerebral records that appealed to your thoughts. What Uno does is grab me by the heart and empathize with those base desires to just drink, fall in love, and have fun. Instant highlights are of course Stay the Night, Fell For You, Rusty James and Sweet 16. As soon as I finished listening to the album I told myself 'This is why I love this band'. Brandon R.
Stay The Night and Rusty James.... holy shit. The whole album is great but those two really stand out to me.
Comrade
Enjoying the record but it's definitely lacking depth for me so far. I mean, it's back to simple 3 minute catchy bursts but is missing meatiness. And they need to stop with novelty tunes, Troublemaker is absolutely awful and should be a B-Side (if even). How do you mean novelty tunes? Gotta say, I'm getting a sense that the depth is in the subject matter rather than how it is talked about. Instead of analyzing love, the album is just saying it's there which is so nice and refreshing (for me). It's a consolation they always said that this is the simple back-to-basics album though. It's obviously something they needed to get out of their collective system - pure melody and pop.

sniffingchimp
How do you mean novelty tunes? Tongue in cheek, gimmicky sounding songs with no real heart/passion behind them. I would put Troublemaker in the same vein as “Dominated Love Slave” as throwaway kitsch. B-side yes, album track never.

I'd only say KTDJ, Let Yourself Go, Troublemaker and maybe Loss of Control (can't remember it right now) fall into the 'no heart' category though. Troublemaker does have a faint smell of a Warning B-side to it, but it's a fun enough tune.

Well, maybe Kill the DJ - Let Yourself Go at least has some drive/aggression (one of my faves from Uno), Loss of Control I'm not so fussed on really. 21stcenturyidiot
No they weren't, that's as pop as anything. Songs about love and growing up. The subject matter doesn't matter. The Undertones wrote songs about love and growing up, even about chocolate( Teenage Kicks, Let's talk about girls, mars Bars ) The Buzzcocks wrote songs about girls/growing up (16 again, What do I get? Ever fallen in love?) Hell, the pistols wrote a song about a submarine (Sub-mission) It's the music and attitude that matters. )
Drop Dead Hideous
Sensible or argumentative. both. I also agree that this album ain't a fader. This one grows so easily that you'll love it after the first listen and will even grow fonder of it

sniffingchimp
Can I get a link please Man, you're simply not going to get illegal links on a borderline-official GD site. It would be idiotic. I would recommend Youtube, search by Green Day Uno and sort by upload date. Not too tricky.
frunsi
The Undertones and the Buzzcocks both had large elements of pop in their music, but I'd say the Sex Pistols were punk. the pistols were the farthest from punk. they were a manufactured boyband with trendy clothes, they only existed for their manager to make money. plus, the descendents for example also involve girl stories and love in their songs (a lot) and now don't tell me they were pop. frunsi
Yes this! And i would have liked the Bridge to be a little longer! it has so much potential. i prefer the live version. sadly it's the same as with LYG. i love the live version, but i like the studio version overall i think the mix of the album kinda sucks. drums (especially snare drum) are too loud and billies voice has some kind of strange echo... But yeah i do like the studio versions and i knew that they wouldn't be exactly the same on the record as they were live so yano its cool, can hopefully hear the songs live when the tour comes my way
