¡UNO! Album

just a quick conclusion, i will write a detailed review later when i have time and heard it a bit more often.

i think this album is worse than 21st breakdown. 21st was over the top at some parts, but at least it had some ambitions and some outstanding songs like peacemaker, viva la gloria or american eulogy. so for me UNO is their weakest album.

its not really bad, i enjoy a few songs. but: i dislike the production, most of the lyrics are uncreative and terrible and its a pop album and as far from punkrock as they never been. the album which comes the closest to uno would be warning. but if you compare those two: warning was way more creative, has better lyrics (no one would doubt that i guess?) and i like most of the music more as well.

when dos and tre are out im sure you could make a good album out of this three records when you take their best songs. from uno it would be: kill the dj, let yourself go, stay the night and maybe rusty james.

btw: for nimrod they claimed to wrote over 50 songs... and now they nearly take all songs they wrote on albums. that says all i guess.

p.s: i cant relate to som dookie comparisons. its more like klerplunk mixed with warning but on a low quality level. its just seems it wasnt done lovingly at all.

so far i'm liking it, the guitar tone is amazing "we're not going with the big marshall amp thing" is one of the best things they could have done. i wish i could hear mike a little better (bass and vocals) i feel like they just blended all the backing vocals together and mikes backing vocals don't stand out like they used to.

I agree about the guitar tones! I LOVE how 60s rock and roll it all sounds. As far as the back-up vocals are concerned, I see where you're coming from, but I think that a lot of the harmonies are out of Mike's range. That's why even live, Jeff and Jason Freese have a HUGE back-up vox presence. As a singer, I love em because they are fucking sick harmonies. Kill the DJ is probably my least fav song, but I think that it fits really well in it's position on the album.

Billie Joe said in Guitar World "The song title is the name from a character in Rumble Fish" "The song itself is about my old punk-rock-scene anfd the survivors of it-the intial starters of that sceneand how some of them didn't really live up to their promises and just became finer pointers alittle bit. And then they disappeared, and just the feeling that Green Day were still here, where are you? What happened to the values that you were bring to the table? Now you're gone. All the things you were telling people to fight for, and you're not fighting for the anymore. So that's probably one of the more bitter songs I've written"

I picked up on that. Lots of bitterness in Uno, and plenty of ambiguous to dark themes. Death of the nuclear family, "see if you're the one who got away" when, presumably, nothing's happened yet, LYG, Kill the DJ Troublemaker, Rusty James, even Oh Love has kind of a dark spin to it if you think about it enough (covered in the Oh Love thread). Again, I like that. They've done a largely upbeat, poppy record, with some dark undertones to it.

Also, don't be a moron. The feds only care about seeders.

I only wanted to express that torrents aren't safe at all. The problem with torrents is that you upload the stuff at the same time when you download it. One Click Hoster are obviously much safer than torrents. And I'm not a f***ing genius to understand this fact.

If you wanna get caught by the police or whoever, than please continue downloading via torrents.

Don't tell us you haven't been warned...

I'm fairly confident that law enforcement officials all around the world have more important things to worry about than a few illegal music downloads.

You should read this chunk of boring text

Just saying I've never been notified by any form of authority in my piracy career.

After multiple listens I'm very happy with Uno and it does sound like a breath of fresh air. Very enjoyable cd for me.

i didn't say im suprised about uno not beeing punkrock, im just disliking it. punkrock is in my opinion the genre that suits green day the best. i dont know why they change their style cause its not taking a next step, maturing or more ambitious at all. its more a step back with uno.

i could understand what they did with warning. you could see it was an ambitious album and why they did it.

@ Vanilla Shake: Please read my comment above yours.

You know you can disable upload in every torrent program in existence, right?

it's not illegal to download torrents. it falls into a grey area of "sharing." because it doesn't cost money and nobody is making a profit on what they upload to the torrent site. "hey i have this movie/game/album here have a copy"

if it was so illegal millions of people would be fined or in prison right now, xbox/microsoft would have fined thousands of people who used downloaded xbox games, instead of banning their xbox live account. and record companies would have hundreds of lawsuits against torrent sites and the people uploading/downloading.

Kill the DJ is tops for me

Stay the Night and Rusty James a close second.

The only two I'm unsure about are Loss of Control and Sweet 16. But I think it's just parts of the lyrics in those songs.

@ sarcasm:

That's not the point. There have been cases of this kind i.e. people had to pay a lot of money for just downloading a few songs. It dind't happen to me either. But it is possible, at least when you download via torrents. Cause all the people who got caught did use torrents. As far I know no one has ever had to pay a lot of money for downloading via One Click Hoster. Because those don't get caught. That's the point.
