I already have it on my iPhone!!!

If I were you, I'd make that "J" in "DJ" capitalized. I have OCD like that in song listings on my iPod.

All right, I just want to know what the quality of the leak is? I don't want to pollute my ears with sub-par mp3s and then be disappointed.

I'm also curious what GDC reactions were when 21CB came out. I see very few negative reactions to Uno.

Glad to finally have a full studio version of Carpe Diem though I can't help but feeling an otherwise amazing song is missing just a little spice, like something could have done to make it more exciting. Still, it's quite good.

Also I have just heard Stay the Night for the first time ever, because of my stubborn refusal to listen to shitty quality live recordings at all. It's okay.

All I know is leaking just days before release is fucking ridiculous, Dos better be out before Halloween or I will be seriously pissed. Well not really, I don't care that much.

Pretty damn good. No complaints here.

My memory of 21st Century Breakdowns release is that it was also very positive on here. People loved it straight away, thats a common reaction to a new album from a band you love. The real test willl be months down the line and if people still want to listen these songs then. Sadly with 21st Century Breakdown lots of people got bored with the songs on it. I still love that album though and rate it very highly still.

Where might one find said leak? I feel so behind

Quality is great. And I think 21stCB did receive more mixed reactions than Uno. The hype back then was huge because Green Day came back after 5 long years, not because album was SO great. Don't get me wrong, it's a good album, but if I remember right, there was way more negative posts about it than there's negative posts about Uno so far. :) I think we see the full picture of reception when the album is officially out so everyone had heard it.

Edit: My memory is pretty bad so I don't remember really clearly. 21stCB did receive a lot of positive reactions, but I think now people are more happy because of more classic Green Day sound, not another rock opera.

Parts of Carpe Diem remind me of Suffocate

Carpe Diem is the only song so far that still has the ballad feel, like it could have been part of another 10 minute song. I could almost imagine it being an extension of 21st Century Breakdown, it has a similar lyrical theme.

I don't get why people just don't listen to the album now... you can find it quite easily in great quality (and don't give me the "I don't pirate music" shtick, I understand when its a small local artist but come on its one of the biggest bands in the world COME ON)

I dowloaded many Green Day and other bands stuff but new record is like celebration. You open the case, put CD in sound system, open booklet and that feeling is awesome! Better then everything else. That's the only one reason why I don't want to listen to Uno until I get its physical copy. I ruined a bit the new record of my fav Polish band record by listening to leaks and I really don't want to do it with Green Day. I just want to wake up at 9 a.m. on Monday, run to the nerest music store, buy it, jump as crazy in store, dressed in Green Day t-shirt, back home and play the record. That's the reaons why I and some of my friends don't listen to it now.

Who don't pirate music these days?

:P

Here's a short review now that I've gone through the album seven or eight times:

Nuclear Family- If you like older Green Day or The Clash you'll love this song. It was an excellent choice for an opener due to its exhilarating lyrics and quick pace. My personal favorite on the album I can now say it definitely stands up to repeated listens.

Stay the Night- I don't know too many GDC'ers who haven't already heard this one, but suffice to say Green Day really captured the live energy well on this track. We are even treated to a 'Hey Oh!' during the bridge and the solo is as excellent as I remember from the live recordings. I'm not sure if Uno will have any additional singles, but in the event it does this would be a wise choice in my opinion. It's quick enough to keep people interested and has a radio quality melody.

Carpe Diem- A battle cry! All the talk about the imitation 'Suffocate' lines in the verses made me momentarily forget what a rousing chorus this one has. I don't know that it'll be anyone's favorite, but I think most of us will find ourselves chanting the chorus aloud as we drive around town or even sit at our computers. Also, guitar solo anyone.

Let Yourself Go- The low point of the album. This sounds like a B-side. Maybe it's just the lackluster chorus but the sneer of the verses feels entirely negated by the time the next line rolls around. Also it's tough for me to hear lines like 'I'd rather get punched in the face' and not question Billie's choice in lyrics. That's an obvious throwaway line and in addition a bunch of needless swearing just makes this track sound unnecessarily juvenile compared to the rest of the album. This was the only clear misstep in my perception.

Kill the DJ- A highlight if not the highlight. This is why I love Green Day. Their ability to successfully experiment with various genres has kept their music fresh for nearly three decades now. This track makes me believe they could record an entire funk album without missing a beat.

Fell for You- Okay, this song is poppy and sappy. 'At first I thought that I'd pissed the bed' really ought to have been a line that got edited out after the demo versions if not before. It's strange hearing a song like this from a man who has been married for eighteen years as well. All that said, it's tough to dislike this number. The chorus has something close to a bubblegum Beach Boys feel to it and aside from a few clunky verse lines it's actually an enjoyable track.

Loss of Control- Well this was the real mystery track for a lot of us. Once again the lyrics are questionable. I think Billie Joe could have transmitted a greater deal of anger if he would have thought of actual insults or metaphors rather than relying on calling everyone a motherfucker repeatedly. Whatshisface may or may not be a callback to Whatsername, but it's cool to think about either way. Also the deep throaty way Billie pronounces 'Anyway' at the end of the second verse is an excellent lead in for the pumped up chorus. This one seems like a number that will grow on many people if they don't like it initially. It's not the album's best, but it would make a great live song.

Troublemaker- Well we've all heard the complaints about Troublemaker over and over again so I'll try to avoid them. The riff and solo is quite awesome. The lyrics though, irritate me again because I'm just not sure where Billie Joe is coming from. 'I wanna get inside of you' 'I like your Bm-excellent tits' I just don't understand why a married man in his forties is writing these lyrics. They don't feel genuine to me which equates to weak writing. The chorus is repetitive, take it or leave it. If the lyrics were different, I could see this song growing on me significantly. As it stands, it'll probably be a casual listen.

Angel Blue- Yes the intro sounds like 'I Fought the Law' now that that's out of the way--This is an excellent song! It's got a quick shouting refrain and pre-chorus with a punchy guitar that is missing at other times on the album. I'm not exactly sure what all the lyrics are at the moment so I can't quite tell what the song means, but it seems like someone commiserating with a down-on-their-luck kid, which should make this a relatable number.

Sweet 16- I believe someone mentioned this song's title referring to Billie and Adrienne having been married for sixteen years. I would believe this because unlike some of the other 'love/lust' songs on the record, Sweet 16 seems genuine and calls to mind an image of a faithful father rather than that of a drooling kid. I can't imagine someone disliking this song. It is poppy for sure, but it doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. Everything about it screams realistic appraisal of love and it's hard for me to dislike something as heartfelt as that.

Rusty James- We'll have to wait to see if the band comments on the deeper meanings of this song at all. I'm not sure if it refers to being one of the last legitimate real 'bands' or if it has to do with old friends, but in my mind the ambiguity is actually good because it makes the song malleable and easy to fit into your personal lonely situations. Green Day can play downright depressing music if they want to, but this has always been my favorite sort of saturnine tune. The message is clearly a little nostalgic and depressed but the song is constructed in a way that makes that seem all right. Rusty James will definitely be a song I listen to if I need a pickup from time to time.

Oh Love- If you haven't heard it yet, I'm in awe. If you haven't complained about it yet, I'm still in awe. I actually enjoy this track quite a bit. I always sing along when it comes on the radio. The chorus reminds me lyrically of Going to Pasalacqua, which I find cool because it seems like a little bit of a call back to their first recordings all those years ago. Maybe it's because these lyrics relate well to a current situation I'm in or maybe I've just become too much of a Green Day fan to absolutely hate anything they make. Either way, I wouldn't skip this one if you haven't heard it in a while. It might grow on you.

So that's all for now. Overall rating out of ten would probably be a 6.5, bearing in mind that a ten for me would be the single best album of all time. I'm of the belief that the trilogy should really be judged as a whole so obviously this rating will increase or decrease based upon Dos and Tre, but I think Green Day chose a good set of tunes to open their experiment and I'm sure we'll all enjoy listening. Happy Green Day!

The only thing sketchy about mine is that it was inexplicably missing Nuclear Family, though that can be remedied.
