¡UNO! Album

Was the lyric to rusty james(LGIT) at first something different? Cause at first when i watched the crapy live recording of that song on youtube the lyric contained lines such as "skinhead came around and blah blah....". Or was it a different song?

I think the line "and it doesnt even pound" in the chorus and the bridge ("so long...") is new.

I tried to sing along with the tiki bar version of last gang in town aka rusty james and this lines sound different.

They describe some of the endless drama in my sister's life to a 'T', and she's in her 40s. An alternate meaning I can see in Let Yourself Go is a smack-down, drag-out fight between an exhausted, middle-aged husband and his wife where after 15, 20, 25 years together she's just a fucking harpy, always carrying on about something, he's sick and tired of hearing it and finally explodes. "I'm sick to death of your every last breath and I don't give a FUCK anyway", heading off to the local bar to get away from it all, and (after his first exposure to nightlife culture in a long time repulses him), some pretty young thing in a miniskirt -- or perhaps a bathing suit (Troublemaker) -- catches his eye and the story spirals out of control from there. There is a lot more going on in this album than the minimalist lyrics suggest at first glance.

This is so clever. I love how you always have a really deep opinion and intepretation of the songs  never ever leave GDA! Your post made me love Let Yourself Go even more

I have my UNO cd with me everywhere. I take it with me to college too

I don't take the CD with my anywhere. It's on my iPod and I can stream it on my phone (via online music backup programs) if there is wi-fi xD.

Any big "Oh Love" fans out there? It's one of my favourites. I just love the way it builds and builds, it feels quite epic. Although I love Green Day's fast punchy songs, it's always the slower or more epic ones (like JOS) that stick with me.

That's why I'm looking forward to iTRE! most :)

Hey guys... Since I'm a little behind on this topic and I don't have the time to read 108 pages worth of content, I thought I'd post a link to my review of ¡Uno! I wrote for my student newspaper, The BG News, last week. It summarizes my thoughts! :) (I gave it an A-!)

http://www.bgnews.com/entertainment/green-day-lets-loose-with-first-of-three-albums/article_9ee10638-091d-11e2-9936-001a4bcf887a.html

Also, if you guys like my review, feel free to check out my student paper's Facebook page and post some comments if you feel inclined to do so. (Link below... it's about 5-6 posts down.) Since our student body is oh-so-educated (sarcasm), right now there's just two guys doing a little circle-jerk of insults directed at me and GD. Gotta love the Internet.

Nice write up! Sums the album up nicely :)

Ok since everyone else has been doing this:

1. Kill the DJ

2. Oh Love

3. Stay the night

4. Rusty James

5. Troublemaker

6. Let yourself go

7. Angel Blue

8. Nuclear Family

9. Fell for you

10. Carpe Diem

11. Loss of Control

12. Sweet 16

Although there are none I don't like, the top 3 really stand out more than the others.

Ha!! The band's on record as saying this is a concept album set that's just not driven by named characters like American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown were. The connections between the songs are still in there, you just have to look for them in musical, stylistic, or thematic similarities instead of, for example, the name "whatsername" or "Jesus of Suburbia" showing up in this, that, or the other song's lyrics. And, yeah, you need a bit of an imagination to fill in the gaps since it's not a tightly-knit concept, but at this point it seems that there is some flow between the tracks. We'll know better in January after we can listen to all three albums start to finish.

I say this everytime a new album comes out because I get so over excited about the new album, but I think this is my favourite Green Day album! I actually freaking love it. Troublemaker is my favourite at the moment. it sounds so awesome really loud when I'm driving. The album is so raw and a bit edgy but still beautiful in places. A lot less 'made-for-stadium-shows' and more just... Green Day... if you know what I mean?!

Haha no I totally know that, but it's just really amusing, they take a break from the high concepts to bring another concept. I think working thematically really works for them, though.

As for "Oh Love"... I did like it when I first heard it. It's not a bad song. In fact it is quite good. But it isn't one of my favorites at all, and I'm not really sure why to be honest. I certainly appreciate the value of it, but it just doesn't... hit me.

That's fair enough. I'm just interested as there seems to have been a fair amount of dislike towards it. I really wasn't that bothered when the single came out, but it's just one of those tracks that really grows on you.

And Kill the DJ too, and that's my favourite song on the album, it's so groovy!

Yeah, I don't know if I've necessarily given it my full attention very much. When I first heard it I was determined not to kill it by overlistening - I still listened to it a number of times, but not as many as I even may have wanted. But right now I am at the point with this record where I am having a hard time just hitting one song on repeat, cause I want to experience the whole thing together still, but... Well, it's just... just let it come naturally type thing. When I saw how much people hated it though, I was like... really? It sounds like Green Day to me. But Green Day... they have the sort of ability to adopt all of these different sort of sounds and make it their own. Take, for instance, 1960s garage rock and say "wait... that sounds like Green Day". It's as if you could just pick any genre of rock or old pop and put it through a "Green Day filter". It's not a cookie-cutter sound, but I hope you understand my meaning... I'm really rambling here, though . At any rate when I first heard the song and saw all the hate on here I was like... but why? It's a good song! But because i don't love it I can't put much more behind it than that.

And I fucking love Kill the DJ. When I first heard it I just wanted to... well, like you say, groove. It's infectious. Although for singing it on its own, it's a little awkward... "Someone kill the DJ, shoot the fucking DJ" jus tdoesn't sound that impressive when you're just saying it. It sounds great in the song, and is perfect for it, but...

Gaaaaaaaah... Fell For You... Love, love, love, love it! It's so catchy and sweet, and just all around perfect.

Oh Love just doesn't fit well on the album, in my opinion. Closer is the best place for it, but it's still not good. It might have that "first single" vibe killing it for me, because when it came out I did play it a lot, but I was never a huge fan. But compared to the rest of the album -- quick, upbeat, energetic, short -- it just seems out of place, and dragging on...

Yeah! I mean as much as I hate to agree that it seems out of place, I do. But again, I'm sure its one of those songs I'll come to love. Always do :P

I still really enjoy Oh Love and think it's the perfect closer. Not my favorite song on the album, though.

I think it's a great start for the trilogy.
