To be honest I was a wee bit nervous that I wouldn't like the album as I wasn't too fond of the singles, but now that I have heard it I love it. And I also like the singles far more now that I can hear them with the rest of the album.

A lot of the reviews on the internet, that I have read, make comments like 'an OK album , but has no stand out tracks', which I find annoying to say the least. I like Uno!, I like all the songs, some a bit more than others (the only slightly dodgy one in my opinion is Carpe Diem - don't like the intro music or the chorus bit with the same/similar music, but the rest of it is great. The first time I heard it on Youtube from the 21CB tour, or was it a secret show, I can't remember now, I thought it sounded like a reject from Cigarettes and Valentines, but it sounds way better now.) Loving the 'clapping' sound from Troublemaker (very FHT meets Spike from The Network).

Overall faves (by a very small margin) are Fell for You, Rusty James, Nuclear Family, Angel Blue and Sweet 16.

Anyway surely its better to have a good album that you can listen too all the way through, without skipping tracks, than an album with maybe one or two brilliant tracks, but the rest are rubbish and not worth playing. [ I'm talking in general here, not specifically about Green Day.] Getting back to the reviewers on the internet - if I remember rightly there was one major music mag that gave American Idiot a really bad review, back when it came out, and look how wrong they were......

The fact that you like all the tracks supports reviewers' opinion of "no stand-out tracks"

New iUno! review. This author did his homework -- good review of the album, and a very well-written review in and of itself too.

http://blindedbysoun...w-green-day-uno

That's a good review! And I appreciate his description of Oh Love: "one of the best songs in recent Green Day memory." At least someone besides me understands the true magnificence of that song! Haha! I honestly love this whole album, but with Dos and Tré promising to be even better (!), it will be really interesting to see how it all fits together. I can't wait to sit down with all 3 albums and just listen to all 37 songs straight through.

As much as I love Dookie, I think people forget that it is full of filler. I mean, it could quite easily have been cut down to 10 tracks, no question. Drop Coming Clean, Emenius Sleepus, In the End and Chump, and you still have an amazing album. And when you remember that Welcome to Paradise was originally on Kerplunk, you realise that there are really only 9 original killer tracks on that album.

On that note, Nimrod, is also really fillerish. The Grouch, All the Time, Platypus, Last Ride In, Jinx and Take Back could all have been left off the album, and it wouldn't really have made much difference imo.

So basically, the point I'm trying to make is that most Green Day albums, including 2 of the most loved by fans, have tracks that aren't up to standard with other songs, yet people never seem to complain, yet they still expect every track on the trilogy to be amazing. I really think that Green Day's most consistent albums were Kerplunk and AI, as they only had 1 filler track each imo (Dominated Love Slave and Extraordinary Girl).

You're probably right, Dookie's a good album but truth be told, it is quite fillerish, particularly when compared to Kerplunk. You're dead right about Kerplunk being more consistent, i was just thinking that the other day. Funny that you said AI is just as consistent, it would have never sprung to mind with me.

But not sure i'd call all those many tracks you listed from Nimrod fillerish (fillerish... That's a funny word). Maybe Jinx, All The Time and Take Back, but i'd say the rest are awesome.

Though tbh, i'll always have a strong sense of nostalgia connected with Nimrod so i s'pose all sense of objectivity goes out the window when i talk about it. I can't be critical about it.

So what then is the best GD album? Surely we had a poll at some stage that i missed?

Looks like we're gonna need a bigger thread.

Anyone have a sense what exactly he is going on about in "Angel Blue", anyway? It is really fuckin' catchy and has some good lines but I haven't a clue what he is talking about. Whereas the rest of the tracks are lyrically fairly straightforward (for me).

You're not alone! I was glad that I hadn't listened to anything before going through the album. Oh Love was my favorite song after that first listen.

The lyrics almost make it sound like an inappropriate relationship with the subject of the song, which....yea.. :ermm:

So here's my ranking:

1. Nuclear Family

2. Stay the Night

3. Fell for You

4. Carpe Diem

5. Rusty James

6. Angel Blue

7. Let Yourself Go

8. Oh Love

9. Sweet 16

10. Kill the DJ

11. Loss of Control

12. Troublemaker

Overall I think this album is as good as I could have ever hoped for. As much as I adore Green Day, when a band puts out 37 new songs at once, you can't help but feel like there's going to be a lot of filler, or songs that you just don't like. I can safely say though that there's not a dud in the bunch. I'm having trouble getting into Loss of Control and Troublemaker as much as the other songs for whatever reason, but I still like the songs. I have my top 9 on continuous shuffle and repeat. For a band to put out this many songs, and to have so many of them be awesome, is an amazing accomplishment. If I ended up loving 9 songs an album, I think Green Day has way exceeded what we could have ever hoped for! So excited for DOS and TRE!

The song fits nicely into the "gotta get my thrill before life passes me by" mid-life crisis theme that the trilogy appears to be setting itself up to be. In Angel Blue I think our middle-aged narrator is contemplating chasing after the late teen/early twentysomething pretty young party girl who caught his eye at the club in Kill the DJ. "You're Angel Blue, with teenage traces" -- just barely old enough to be legal, and just stupid enough to get involved with him even though he's married, got a family, etc. "You're just a fucking kid and no one ever gives you a break/You want it, señorita, and now your heart is gonna break." I think it's setting up our narrator's awareness of what he's going after, that it's all wrong both for him and for her, and that he nevertheless doesn't care. The next two songs that follow Angel Blue are the reminiscent, melancholy Sweet 16 and Rusty James, where he reflects on his feelings of loneliness in the midst of what should otherwise be a very rich and fulfilling life -- and then all this tension is going to hit the breaking point in Oh Love, releasing itself into the iDos! debauchery-filled party scene where "tonight, my heart's on the loose."

(Credit to Melissa's review of iUno! for HuffPo which helped focus me on these themes).

All I have to say is that this is an amazing album! Anyone who likes Green Day or good music must like this! The only song that doesn´t have me jumping up and down is Troublemaker, even though it´s still a good track. Everything else is awesome and makes me thankful that we have such a great band to listen to. Will have Uno on repeat until Dos comes out!

I'll be honest, I was kind of prepared to dislike a few songs on Uno. I didn't like the live recording of Carpe Diem from last year, Stay The Night seemed kind of meh, and Let Yourself Go (when they released the video this year) was really underwhelming. I was totally prepared for Uno to be the worst CD of the trilogy and have a lot of songs that I would consider filler.

However, I was actually surprised at how much I love it now that it's out. I honestly love all the songs on it. Event the ones I had thought I didn't like turned out really well. I wouldn't consider Uno their best album - it still trails behind AI and 21CB I think, but is somewhere on par with Nimrod and Dookie - but it is thoroughly enjoyable all the way through.

Here's my ranking of the songs:

1. Oh Love

2. Kil The DJ

3. Troublemaker

4. Sweet 16

5. Stay The Night

6. Nuclear Family

7. Fell For You

8. Rusty James

9. Carpe Diem

10. Let Yourself Go

11. Loss Of Control

12. Angel Blue

I think it says "You want a* señorita and now..." Maybe I'm wrong I don't know. But great review on the song, I wanted to know more about it too :D

I love Troublemaker, It's hard for me to believe that people in general seem to find that one their least favourite, and even more surprising is that they prefer Kill the DJ over that one  hmmmm I guess it all comes down to the tastes xD
