¡UNO! Album

I bought the album Tuesday and it is very good! My less favorite song is Troublemaker, but I think it will grow in me...maybe.

The only thing I don't like in Troublemaker is the "hey" part (to me it sounds like he says 'Ay' :P ) But it really makes me want to dance!

I find it funny/strange how many people don't like Troublemaker... I mean it is personal taste and all that, I just think it is funny.

Wooo! :bunny: and he does good damn job there!

It could be Mike, though. Maybe. :P.

All righty, Uno! Doesn't seem so long ago when 21st Century Breakdown was brand new but it does feel like American Idiot was a life time away.

I have very limited internet time because of work so I'll post my first impression and maybe I'll follow up with a longer review in a few weeks, I've had the album since Tuesday.

I really like the album, it feels like a natural follow up to Warning but it sounds like a cross between Warning and Nimrod. It's very interesting to hear the Green Day of the late 90's in a modern form, it didn't feel awkward or out of touch and I think that's part of the genius of it.

When I heard about they were gonna release 3 albums a few month back, I figured each album is gonna have 4 to 5 good songs and the rest would be fillers. And by good songs I mean unique ones in level of catchyness or lyrically. And fillers being the songs that sound like AI/21stCB b-sides like Lights Out or Shoplifter, just songs that have no highlights or stand out parts. So far I think all the songs after Troublemaker fall in that latter category, especially Sweet 16.

Someone mentioned the bass and the drums not standing out as much as they did the last two albums, I agree with that but I think the problem is with the whole mixing and mastering process and I think this was meant to sound more raw and less polished than the last two albums. The thing that bothers me about this is the distorted guitar sound, there's simply none, it has no attack or edge at all on this album as it did on the last two and to put it in Layman terms; there's very limited "rocking out" to this album's overall sound.

The few solos feels forced and uninspired, I'm assuming we're being introduced to Jason White's music writing for the first time. I have always liked his guitar sound playing solos that Billie Joe wrote and played on the albums and they were always great and emotional solo despite being simple in structure, Holiday, WMUWSE and the little solos on JOS come to mind but really all the guitar work on AI and 21stCB has been superb and fitting to the songs and lyrics. There is a total lack of that in Uno's solos and my only assumption is this being the work of Jason White combined with a tad of laziness and lack of interest on Billie's behalf to at least have some quality control over it.

Just an initial reaction, I still really like the album, the good songs are really cool, I haven't been able to stop whistling/singing Fell For You's chorus non stop since I first heard it. I love that song, the lyrical structure of Fell For You reminded me of Going to Pasalacqua. I can't prevent myself from clapping along the verses of Troublemaker, I just can't, even while I'm driving! Such a fun silly song. Kill The DJ is one of these instances I've gotten used to where at least one song on every new Green Day album would talk about or criticize some trend that's been irritating me, in this case being the club scene and how DJs and now being hailed as musicians. These three songs and maybe Nuclear Family are the actual highlights of the album for me so far. I'm not too crazy about Stay The Night and Let Yourself Go even though I see them popular here but maybe they'll grow on me. Loss of Control and Carpe Diem are better than them IMO.

Go Green Day! Can't believe we get another patch of new songs in a couple of month, sweet.

It's pretty funny, when I listen to Fell For You and hear "Eiffel Tower," I think of Phineas and Ferb's intro song. I don't know why, those songs sound nothing alike. Maybe it's just the fact that it's in a song? I don't know.

Bowling For Soup... Green Day? Eiffel Tower? I don't remember exactly how it sounds in Fell For You though I remember the Phineas and Ferb theme song...

But that's kind of hilarious that you posted this.

TIL that Bowling For Soup does Phineas and Ferb's intro song.

I had to go look up what TIL stood for... xP

But yup.

But the fact that it reminds you of it does kind of make sense anyway.

It'll be interesting to see which album everyone enjoys most out of the three. Can't wait until the entrire trilogy is released.

I finally have a hard copy, it's so pretty and so ridiculously expensive, haha.

I know. I bought the deluxe edition from Best Buy. $12 more for a cardboard sleeve and a sticker :P. I'm a sucker but I don't mind supporting Green Day.

Can we just take a minute to appreciate whoever screaming "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" in the background during the second verse of "Let Yourself Go"? It's little things like that that really make me love Green Day.

I think it's being attributed to Tre. Whoever it is, it kinda makes the song..!

Who the fuck is that, anyway?? Seems like a Tre thing to do, but to me it sounds a lot like Billie.

But I have connected with Sweet 16. It reminds me of my loveliest girlfriend. I didn't treat her the way she deserved. She was 16 when we hit it off. I really miss her.

But the whole album is full of emotion and anytime I listen I wanna listen again.

That solo in the middle of Troublemaker...my golly gosh it sounds so fucking awesome. I really dig that song, I think it's got a really unique sound that sets it apart from the rest of the album and it's catchy as hell.

I really love that song  I think it's because it's so different...I'm also in love with the way Billie says "BMW" it's like he's being condescending.

Yeah he's super snotty sounding in that one. I imagine if this were performed live he would have his crazy eyes going.
