localinsomniac
Agree with the weak singles, but am I the only one who LOVES Kill The DJ? I can see where people think it's repetitive. When I first heard it I thought -- in terms of live songs -- this could be the new Hitchin' a Ride. That's a song that really gets people moving. There's just such a sexual vibe to it. Femme Gauche
no! I love it so much! It's my new ringtone I usually don't care about the charts. I mean it's nice but as long as the album is good, i'm fine I care because I want them to get the recognition they deserve. I'm not going to start pissing on the other artists who are making top spots, I just wish Green Day were at the top. It would be something to celebrate. I agree that Oh Love was a weak single (I don't actually find the song to be weak but as a single it didn't sell the album), but I don't know which of the other songs would really catch the radio's attention, either. They are all very fun and poppy-sounding. Perhaps Troublemaker would have been more attention-grabbing? Who knows. Regardless... Stay The Night is a good choice. there are two other versions of Uno in the top 20 too, so that should level them into the top 5... plus the album is #3 and #5 on AmazonMP3! I don't get why Warner didn't buy an ad on itunes though. unless you are looking for it, you'd never know its on there! Yeah there is literally NO advertising for the album AT ALL on iTunes. Not even in the "new releases" categories or anything.
1039SweetChildren
They havent advertised anything on itunes... not the singles, preorder, and now the album. I don't think that's the best idea since itunes is accountable for most digital sales, but I guess they gotta make cuts somewhere with such a taxing marketing endeavor for 3 records. Femme Gauche
Yeah I noticed that with the singles also. Kind of interesting, though, if they are going to make cuts for advertising I'd cut it somewhere else. Whatever... at least it is well up there. Wish you could see which artists are selling the most, as opposed to just the albums because the attention is divided with the multiple versions. Femme Gauche
First couple of listens to the album I found it rather sad... Fun, but with a sadness to it but just now I listened again and heard something different... hopefulness. Carpe Diem and Rusty James... could be about the sucky things that aren't quite what you wish they were but you could also embrace the moment and let go of the past, really free yourself from those bonds which is definitely a positive thing. lagurney
I personally think Nuclear Family would have been a good choice. The American Idiot sound is obviously a popular one, and this sounds to me, most like a song off that album. As for what goes with it, not sure. With the Kill the DJ comment, I meant outside the fans, Kill the DJ has been poorly received in what I've read and heard.

localinsomniac
I'd agree with that. It's not my favorite song on the album by any means, but I think something so fresh and different from your standard Green Day tune would have gotten a lot of people's attention. On the other hand, not all of that attention was likely to have been positive. There are many folks who would hear that track independent of the album and think, "What a pile of garbage. Green Day's just trying to capitalize on the popularity of dance rock," or some similar silliness.
The Snark
So yesterday was horrible: I was sick, but went to work anyways. I ended up doing a ton of physical stuff and they had the heat cranked way up. I just wanted to lie on the table in front of the fan and die. BUT... When I got home, the box set was sitting on the table! I went from not thinking I'd be able to take one more step, to ripping open the box, freaking out, and generally scaring my family with my complete 180. I only looked through the book, because I wanted my first listen to happen when I was more awake and aware of my surroundings. I'm going to be very biased because I can. I'm listening to the cd for the first time as I type this, and I'm absolutely in love with it (I only let myself hear 3 of the songs so I could experience it as a whole). It usually takes a few listens for me to get used to new music, but I keep changing my favorites each time a new song starts. Even Kill the DJ is really growing on me. It's like all the best GD eras rolled into one. I can't wait to blare it in the car while pushing the speed limit on the highway and I especially can't wait to hear these songs live! On the other hand, not all of that attention was likely to have been positive. There are many folks who would hear that track independent of the album and think, "What a pile of garbage. Green Day's just trying to capitalize on the popularity of dance rock," or some similar silliness. At least they didn't go the dubstep route! Munzapoppa
To me the album overall is pretty good. I wouldn't rank it above albums like Dookie or American Idiot but it's very enjoyable to listen to. A lot of the songs definitely have musical similarities to songs on Nimrod, but I like that style so it's a good thing to me. Even though I had heard half the album already before release, it was still nice to hear most of those songs in the context of the album. To me Oh Love doesn't really fit with the rest of the album though, it's great as a single but it just sounds so different from the rest of the album. Of the 6 songs that I hadn't heard all the way through, I felt like Fell for You and Troublemaker sounded a bit repetitive and they could have been expanded a bit musically like most of the other songs were, but I still like listening to them. The other 4 new songs (Angel Blue, Loss of Control, Sweet 16 and Rusty James) are great, I really enjoy them. Now I'm looking forward more to Tre because of Stray Heart and 99 Revolutions, but hopefully Dos will be just as enjoyable as Uno is.
localinsomniac
When the poll was up about asking which album we were most excited for, I voted ¡DOS!. After hearing ¡UNO! and seeing the track listings for the other two, I've changed my mind- don't ask me what, but something is telling me that ¡TRE! is going to obliterate the both of them. spark in the night
Carpe Diem, Let Yourself Go, Kill the DJ, Troublemaker, and Sweet 16 are the absolute stand-outs for me.
Homero
Let Yourself Go and Kill The DJ sound better within the album (imo). I also love the combo Stay The Night + Carpe Diem + Let Yourself Go.
Femme Gauche
Falling for "Fell For You", hard. "Loss of Control" reminds me of "Nice Guys Finish Last"... for some reason.
1039SweetChildren
I don't like their correlation to the sales being resultant of this weekend's debacle, but here's what HDD is predicting for Uno's sales... Looking at #2, behind Mumford and Sons: Coming on the heels of front man Billie Joe Armstrong's iHeartRadio Music Festival outburst over the weekend and subsequent trip to rehab, the first of Green Day's three Reprise albums, Uno, will debut with between 150-175k, which supports the notion there is no such thing as bad publicity when it comes to selling records. Call it a punk marketing set-up. http://www.hitsdaily...e.cgi?news09134

1039SweetChildren
The sales are pretty great, especially if the final number ends up being closer to 175k. They didn't have a hit single and they aren't following up a smash record like American Idiot, so it's right about what would be expected. It's definitely above average for a lot of artists today. localinsomniac
It seems like the album was released to comparatively little fanfare, so it's good that we're looking at such strong first-week numbers. The drama over the weekend helped that, surely, but it also gives this release a different feel. Normally, the band has a string of promotional appearances; they'll be on radio, late night, etc. But now that they've wiped out everything up until the Voodoo Festival....you know, I just can't put my finger on it. But it feels different. Not necessarily in a good way.
