spark in the night
Are the lyrics in Kill the DJ really "holiest of holes"? I thought it was "holiest of old" and was trying to convince myself that that was it because holiest of holes sounds so fucking stupid, but I was reading the lyric booklet today and it indeed says holiest of holes. Needless to say, that song is not growing on me anytime soon. Yes. Everyone thought it was holiest of old which I think sounds stupid. Doesn't make a lick of sense. Holiest of holes DOES make sense however. It's a play on words..like a double metaphor...holiest of holes meaning religion and being "holy" is an empty virtue. And that it's such a giant hole that it is the "hole-iest" of holes. The grand pubaah of holes. You can't get much deeper of a hole than being holy

BlackBaboon
The "Easy cum and go" line in Troublemaker really pushed me over the edge. I'm convinced with the amount of autobiographical material Billie Joe inserts into his lyrics that this album is a perfect example of a midlife crisis. Just for the record, I'm not reacting to his seeking treatment either, I mentioned this a week ago after first hearing all the songs and now I'm convinced. These just aren't the sorts of lines we're used to hearing from him. The edgy songs of the earlier era dealt more with overall theme "Burnout- Not working, lazing about." "Longview- Lazing around, masturbating." "Brat- Inheritance." And the edgy songs of the more recent era dealt with politics, but Billie Joe's songs about women were always more respectful in tone and usually, even when they were angry, like in "Chump" he ended up taking the blame, "I'm a chump." On "Troublemaker" "Oh Love" "Stay the Night" and maybe "Let Yourself Go" I feel this idea is lost. "Fell for You" and "Angel Blue" come much closer to the older songs about girls in my opinion. However, I still find it strange that "Fell for You" is coming out on an album eighteen years after a successful marriage. "Angel Blue" I think can be interpreted more as a sympathetic teenage song rather than true love, but the point is, most of these examples seem to point to an increase in shock value. They feel like caricatures of old songs, like someone trying to wiggle back into a mold of their younger self. Just my opinion, but I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks. I've definitely thought that this could be thought of as mid-life crisis, but I don't think of it as a bad thing, really, because again, the execution is so on. But he has always written about women / girls he knew, often out of line with his personal timeline, because he's just calling back to whatever feelings he had. He seems to have a lot of strong memories attached to certain people, despite being in an apparently very happy marriage. I don't think I need to point out how many songs he has about his wife . Basically I agree with you but I think (if I understand you correctly) you and I take it differently . Totally hear the 60s vibe too. Its subtle but its there. Haha in my mind it is a little more than subtle but maybe my thoughts are skewed in that direction to begin with.

I do agree that if we're able to perceive this potential midlife crisis that it is executed excellently. Frankly, I'd rather feel a genuine midlife crisis than a fake political stance or something. This is clearly what was on Billie's mind and I think it's transmitted very effectively. I just cringe at a few of the lyrics, but I'm starting to think that such emotion is what we're meant to feel with Uno! This is someone experiencing something totally new and cringe worthy. Certainly there are people who want to grow older with wisdom, but I don't think too many people actually want to age and the more I listen to Uno! the more I think that's its central theme, above any party preparation concepts. Lauren
If we're going to make fun of Kill the DJ lyrics, might want to include "The bullet that you asked for kill you to your death." What the fuck does that even mean? I still love the song though. I'm guessing it means he did something so bad that it was like asking for his death. like when you're being a brat to your parents and they say "you're really asking for it!!!" Malleus
I laughed so hard when I read the "easy cum and go" line. I think it doesn't really represent or allude/point in the direction of anything. It's just a fun play on words in a fun, sexy song. Also why are you even talking about Let Yourself Go when you're talking about the songs about girls? It does not seem to be about a girl as far as I know. If it is, it's nothing like what you're saying, i.e. romantic or anything. Stay the Night doesn't really work either in that train of thought (imo, this is all just a big buncha O's) because it's a longing song, a song about something that never was. I don't really think "so we can watch the stars until the sun begins to rise" is exactly more risque or sexy than BJ's previous songs about girls. Oh Love does have that pure sexual thing but I don't think it's done classless or anything like that. I'm guessing it means he did something so bad that it was like asking for his death. like when you're being a brat to your parents and they say "you're really asking for it!!!" Yeah, that's a good way of thinking of it, but I don't think any amount of thought or effort can justify how retarded "kill you to your death" is. I guess you could say it ties in with the zombified and closed in nature of the song, like everything is so pumped into us at such a high speed that we're dying after we're dead. I think I'm overanalzying. I've been on GDC for too long.

Heather.
I can't believe you would take "easy cum and go" as anything more than Billie being the dirty, perverted little devil that he is. Seriously. He may be having a midlife crisis, and these albums may reflect that, but his jizz isn't the essence of it. That is the only constant in his life And what makes us so sure Fell For You isn't about Adrienne anyway? Not that I care. Billie's music has always been separate from the time-space continuum
Mozzabillie
Mine was shipped via UPS Mail Innovations....the slowest fucking shipment service ever (because it's cheap) I'm not supposed to get it until Thursday. That's weird that you can't put your songs in itunes. They're just mp3's. I got my download this morning and I was able to add them to my library. How do you know how it's sent and when you will receive it? I haven't received an email yet. Usually if I purchase something, they send an email letting you know it's been sent and a tracking number so you can tell.

Lauren
Just gonna pop in and say if it was possible to hug a song, I would be suffocating 'Rusty James'. To me, it's like they took the concept of 86, and the music of Scattered and Letterbomb... plus some extra sparkles and pixie dust... and just made them ten times more amazing. By the way... STOP SAYING RUSTY JAMES SOUNDS "EXACTLY LIKE SCATTERED". IT'S SEVEN FREAKING CONSECUTIVE NOTES THAT SOUND LIKE SEVEN CONSECUTIVE NOTES FROM SCATTERED. YOU'RE TECHNICALLY ALLOWED TO STEAL SEVEN NOTES FROM ANOTHER ARTIST'S SONG AND IT'S STILL LEGAL. SO. STOP. IT'S ITS OWN SONG. AND IT'S FREAKING AMAZING. Lauren
Who has the clean version?! Please tell me, do they simple silence out the "fuck" in Rusty James, or do they replace it with another word? The answer to this question decides on whether or not I get the clean version of the album.

Mozzabillie
Oh.... I think you need to contact them. I received my shipment email 5 days ago and it came with a tracking number. I love how the email that I got when I first purchased the package says, "Delivered on street day". It didn't say "sent out on street date". I also saw at the top of the original email that it says "ground shipping". That could be mail, UPS, or Fed Ex. That was very vague. Whatever the method of delivery is, today is the street date and it isn't here.
