I like what he said, "Basket Case is one of those songs now... it's stopped being mine. It belongs to all the people in the audience singing it back to me".

Interesting.. :ermm: I would like to know why Billie didn't like to perform with Bon Jovi! (I'm not their huge fan, but they're good) We need to vote for Green Day that they're going to win! (Bon Jovi: 48%!!!!, Green Day: 31%!, neither: 20%).. :/

I saw Bon Jovi live a few years ago and it was alright.

The place was sold out and they had a cool arrangement. If I recall correctly, there were other stages set up in the center of the place, and Richie and Jon performed a few songs surrounded by the crowd, but the music they played...it was all their new shit and they played only a handful of older songs.

Green Day >

On second thought, my hatred for Bon Jovi knows no bounds, so I'll reopen this one and give others the chance to enumerate the 18.7 trillion reasons that Bon Jovi sucks assGreen Day and Bon Jovi is a weird pairing.

They were the worst crowd to be in, that's for sure.

I saw them at Bamboozle. Well, I was really there for Gaslight Anthem, but all the Bon Jovi fans were in front of us and around us, being complete assholes.

They're not used to people being close to each other, so there was this one guy, with his "pregnant" girlfriend (seriously, if you're REALLY pregnant, why are you here?) who HAD to move to the front because she was going to puke on me.

I was like "Go ahead!" haha. and then her boyfriend was like screaming at me.

Worst experience ever. Couldn't even enjoy Gaslight since they were pushing us all backwards.

I like that with Green Day, this wouldn't be a bad thing.

Green Day >

Well, that's a given.

story of why billie doesn't like bon jovi

December 12, 1994

A NYC radio station had an acoustic Christmas concert for charity. Bon Jovi were supposed to headline, but Green Day said they wouldn't play if they weren't allowed to headline. Bon Jovi said that was no problem, they'd go on ahead of Green Day. When Green Day came out, they supposedly started their show by singing "Wanted" making fun of Bon Jovi, but the crowd went with it. Half of the audience left after Bon Jovi finished. After the show, they got pissed off backstage and threw a fit.

Meh, no opinion on Bon Jovi. Pretty good songs to sing when you're doing drunk karaoke with your friends at 3 AM, but other than that, whatever. Wonder if this'll stir up some shit on the entertainment websites.

Billie was asked which was the worst band so he picked one, it was an off the cuff answer not to be taken seriously. NME has taken that and said Green Day toured with Bon Jovi (false), and that Billie said they were "no fun to share a stage with" (made up). What a crappy article made up of false info and embellishments.

He's said before when talking about that show that he got naked because Bon Jovi was there , he never made any secret that he didn't think much of them at the time. I watched the video of it a while ago and I seem to remember him making fun of them during the set a few times. The "news" that he doesn't like Bon Jovi is 18 years old, him mentioning it again in a throwaway comment is nothing to get excited about.

If that is true, then what goes around comes around for Bon Jovi. Motley Crue was lined up for a benefit concert in Moscow in the '80s. Their manager was also managing a band called Bon Jovi, who were decided to be the headliner of the four acts. Motley Crue was told they'd be the third support act, playing right before Bon Jovi took the stage. Crue intended to use pyro, but were told by their manager that pyro could not be brought into Russia, and under no circumstances would they be able to use it.

So the Crue gets to the concert, and is informed that they've been moved to the second support set. They were sandwiched between support bands, and suffered for it. Bon Jovi, meanwhile, took the stage, and on the first note of their set, massive amounts of pyro went off.

As the story goes, Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx found their manager backstage and beat the living shit out of him. They then visited him in the hospital the next day to tell him he was fired. :D

(slightly off topic) you were at Bamboozle? I was staying in a beach house only a few blocks away from there but couldn't go because reasons. This is probably the closest I've gotten to meeting another GDCer. :(

GDC is a big community, you'd be surprised!

I only went because I designed the website for one of the vendors and he gave me and a friend (Katie, aka Velocity) a wristband

This Bon Jovi thing has been blown so out of proportion. Even if he wasn't joking I don't think he was seriously insulting the band or anything like that.

Wait, I'm really confused.

Me too...

To me makes it seem GD were being divas... if Bon Jovi agreed to play before you cant be mad if the half the crowd left in 94 lets be honest they werent as big of a band as they are in ow and werent bigger than Bon Jovi at that time period (of course i know some fans will disagree but lets be honest)

I dont see why nme making a deal out of this err wait is Everett True still writing for nme?

Yeah, definitely girl band. I mean, they have good songs, but as far as I know, all the people I know that like them, just listen to the hits.

This is really why Billie does not like Bon Jovi:

"In the dressing room, Armstrong heads straight for a sofa in the corner and clams up. Bored? Perhaps. Exhausted? Most likely. But don't expect stereotypical rock-star behavior of the sort that Jon Bon Jovi displayed after a New York benefit last December that included both the New Jersey rocker and Green Day.

"A representative from his entourage comes over to our room and goes, 'Yes, Jon would like to have a beer if it's at all possible,'" Armstrong says. "We were like 'Well, tell Jon to get his fucking fluffy ass in here and get himself a beer.'"
