cj_unoxx
I think a lot of it is necessary, things like twitter and getting an iPhone. Twitter is important for interacting with the fans, and an Iphone is a phone What a load of old bollocks. Yeah iPhones and Twiiter are nice I have both but that's not the point the point is that Billie Joe expressed how much he hated "iDevices" and now he has one

There's nothing wrong with him changing his mind on that, it's not exactly an important ethical issue. People change their minds on whether they like or dislike things all the time. There's nothing wrong with him changing his mind on that, it's not exactly an important ethical issue. People change their minds on whether they like or dislike things all the time. My dad used to go on massive rants about Apple products and how much they sucked, and about how Steve Jobs was full of shit and whatnot. For yeeeears. Then, my sisters and I pitched in and got him an iPod classic for his birthday a couple years back. He uses it all the time. And now, he's even been considering getting an iPad so he can watch all his movies and TV shows on the go. And when Steve Jobs died, he insisted that the company would be done for, now that he was gone. For my own part, I used talk about how much I hate facebook and how stupid and evil it was and swore up and down that I would never get one. I absolutely refused. But, eventually, my friends wore me down, and I got one, just so I could keep in touch with them. And I still don't particularly like it....or use it that often. But I still have one, after years of insisting I never would. Shit happens.

bringonjennifury
This morning I showed my kids the video of Green Day performing "Let Yourself Go" at the VMA. My eight year-old told me something was wrong with my computer because the sound kept going out during parts of the song.
Drop Dead Hideous
it just seems so unnatural. It's considered unethical saying swear words but I haven't met a single soul who has not uttered a single swear word...
melissawebster
This morning I showed my kids the video of Green Day performing "Let Yourself Go" at the VMA. My eight year-old told me something was wrong with my computer because the sound kept going out during parts of the song. Haha! We were just talking about that last night on Twitter. At first I thought there was a technical problem, especially during the lyrics "Everyone is ____ with my head now..." so it took me a second to realize what was happening, and then I just burst out laughing. They could make censorship a huge joke with that one part of the song alone, marketing it to prove just how stupid censorship is and everybody would laugh about the dead air the prudes/censorship advocates are forcing on us. Sales for the song would go through the roof because everyone would want to know what the hell is being censored, and there'd be a lot of buzz about it, turning Green Day into heroes for bucking the system again. It'll be interesting to see how they handle the single on the radio. Has anyone heard it on the radio yet?
gerardsangel4977
As I mentioned with "Kill the DJ" previously, just because it's been released for purchase as a single on iTunes doesn't mean it's in the rotation for radio play (though, "Let Yourself Go" would, funnily enough, be *less* censored than Kill the DJ). Maybe on satellite radio. They can pretty much play whatever they want. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't object to it if LYG *was* on the radio; I'm just not wanting to jump to conclusions. melissawebster
Well, I hope they put it on the radio and not just iTunes. It's a great song. And I just want to give props to Jason White for wearing that "Free Pussy Riot" t-shirt last night onstage for the cameras. LOVE that.
Heather.
I think this sums up Billie Joe's personal knowledge and attention to the details of distribution: bj_unoxx Is it already available??bja_21 @bj_unoxx Yes it is available! Great Song!bj_unoxx Oh shit! It's already out?? Epic single release fail!! Hahaha Yes, he recorded alternate versions of songs, but as far as things like reuploading of youtube videos and all that... he's oblivious and he doesn't seem to mind. Maybe you think he should care about his image, but it's probably healthier for his mind not to be uptight about these types of things.

Iain
Why everybody be hating on my newspaper? For me to give any kind of opinion on this topic at this point would be redundant, so I'm just going to lurk if that's okay with you guys. Ian (Fin?)! It's great to see you again! How have you been? You were the one at the festival with the truly awesome Billie Joe artwork that they auctioned off, aren't you? 1) Because the Huffington Post usually has very bad articles, mostly written by ignorant, unprofessional and inexperienced writers. Not including yourself, of course. ;-) 2) Lurk all you want! 3) YES IT IS! I've been doing good, how about you? And yes, same person; I still have some copies back home of said artwork. I can't believe all you guys liked it!
melissawebster
1) Because the Huffington Post usually has very bad articles, mostly written by ignorant, unprofessional and inexperienced writers. Not including yourself, of course. ;-) "written by ignorant, unprofessional and inexperienced writers," NOT including me??? How exactly am I supposed to respond to a statement like that? Huffington Post is ranked as one of the best news outlets in the world by the media industry. Ya know, their peers. And the contributors are not only professionals like me, but they aren't limited and controlled by a corporate agenda like most of the media. Not only is the reporting accurate and insightful, and scoured by editors before it's allowed to be published, but there's a much larger variety than you'd get from most news outlets, so all spectrums of political ideology are represented. Have you actually read anything from the Huffington Post, or are you simply judging it because it isn't a right-wing rag like Fox "News"? Give examples of "ignorant, unprofessional and inexperienced" writing to support your statement or shut the fuck up.
Fuzz
The problem I have with HuffPo (since we're already veering off topic) is that they make their money not on original content, but by swiping news from actual journalists, re-write, re-package, and present it in their own way. It's just a little sleazy.

It's just a little sleazy. This is true and a very valid point, and that is one of the problems I have with Huffington Post as well. I also find it sleazy that they don't pay their writers, which is why I'm using it to build credentials and thinking of it as a long, drawn-out unpaid internship to hone my skills and build a portfolio and a name for myself. But the swiped content is only about half of the news on the site, and the contributors and even the swiped content cannot be fairly described as "ignorant, unprofessional and inexperienced." That is the opposite of true. It's one of the best places to get accurate and well-written information, regardless of their unethical business model. And to an extent, doesn't GDA do the same thing? You guys take content from other sites all the time and add your own commentary, as well as piece together videos and photos from other sources to go with it. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'm just wondering how it's different or why you'd care if someone else did it.

I do think what we do is different because we cater to a specific audience. Our job is to curate the news and present it to people. We don't re-write news stories. We talk about them and send traffic out to the original source if one exists. If there's an interview with Green Day, we don't republish it, we quote it, and link to the source. We talk about them and send traffic out to the original source if one exists. If there's an interview with Green Day, we don't republish it, we quote it, and link to the source. You're right. That does make a difference, and I'm not saying Huffington Post isn't without its flaws. They published an article about Green Day a few months back that was basically pulled from the Rolling Stone interview, and it was a total smack-my-head moment. The girl sourced Rolling Stone, but she misquoted Billie and completely misrepresented the interview to put her own spin on it and make it somewhat original. I noticed the mistakes because I'm an avid Green Day fan and had read the original article, but the editors probably just took her information at face value. If I'd ripped off the article, I would have been much more sneaky about it. This is why I write completely original articles and do my own interviews, even if they can't be about much bigger bands, because I'm not interested in regurgitating already written shit. And the majority of the writers are like me. If you browse the content, at least half of it is submitted by original contributors.
MrsBillieJoe95
I have mixed feelings about this :/ On one hand, I don't care that they're making edited because regardless, I will obtain unedited versions of the albums (assuming they edit them all). I will more than likely buy the clean versions from walmart just to have the albums, but then I'll buy unedited ones once I get the chance to (Trust me, I never really bought edited albums anyway unless it was when I was like 12-13 and either had no other choice or if I never noticed til i got home) On the other hand though, I'm with the group of people who think that it's not really cool of Green Day to be hypocrites. It's one of those things that it wouldn't be a big deal had they not went through the whole "we never had to edit our music before, so why should we now?" thing 2-3 years back. If they didn't go through all of that, this thread and conversation would probably have never been going on ------------- My whole theory on edited music (regardless of who the artist is) is that if a kid really wants the unedited version, they will get it one way or another. I would go onto youtube and get the "dirty" versions of songs all the time and still do if I don't have the dirty cd (which sadly I have a couple of edited albums ). Parents can't keep their kids from getting/hearing the unedited version 24/7 and they're going to be sadly disappointed if they try!

melissawebster
Yeah.
