Vrock09
everyone is so touchy in this thread..lol Anyways, I thought Lady Cobra was amazing! It was the "in you face" Green Day song I had been hoping for. I also, surprisingly enjoyed Nightlife, but I have to admit, I wanted to Billie to shush so I could hear more Lady Cobra. lol Her voice is so attractive. Kitty Purry
I always laugh when ppl say something is shit and they always list ''special snow flake bands'' they listen to. AS if that proves a point. I love Mozart for example doesn't mean I still rock out to Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry. Music is subjective PEOPLE!! btw still listening to nightlife! *withoutadoubt*
To each her own. Just like anything else in the world, sometimes you like something, sometimes you don't. No need to argue about who is right or wrong or put anyone down for liking or disliking it. Respect - that's the key to everything methinks. Anyway...I am loving these two songs!! Lady Cobra - cannot wait to hear this one live. It has such energy, LOVE the sound of the guitar, and it's SO Foxboro-ish, it makes me crave a fucking ice cold PBR or 20, lol! Nightlife is just - different, and I LOVE that! It has such amazing rhythm, has me bopping my head and moving to the beat. The distortion on Billie's voice makes it sound 'under the influence' of whatever...it's just bewitching.
Hidingfromcrazies
I don't give a shit if you or anyone else likes the new green day songs, but the way you word things is really rude and argumentative. You knew when you made your original post what kind of reaction it was going to get. Just because you listen to ""amazing"" music like Brand New doesn't make you special or any better than anyone else on this forum. I'm sure they have 12 year old fans too First thing that came to mind when I read this was attention seeker. You have got to be the most immature 26 year old ever. LOL it's so funny you say that because he is quite the opposite. LOL no offense phslaxmidi10, but you do kind of remind me a little bit of a Kelsy Grammer intelligent type dude, where everything is understated but you will run people over with your wit. lol
justcause
You could say "I don't like the new stuff" or you could say "Green Day is shit. This stuff is like ear puke, I know why I avoided them" Don't be surprised which one is going to get a vitriolic reaction. Yeah, but the one is kind of limp, and the other is a passionate response - fuckit, I would far rather have something like Vanessa said than all the posts with people droning on about repetitious choruses. She shot from the hip, and then she elaborated on her opinion - which is good, because her thoughts were worth hearing - but fuckit, sometimes a person just wants to blurt out what they're feeling in a few short words. You can just let it ride, or you can honestly ask why they feel that way, which can lead to a much more interesting conversation than just going 'fuck you'. Other thing I feel would really contribute to the integrity of this forum is if people would argue the opinion of the poster without referring to their age as some kind of condescending get-out. Anyway - song. I'd been so fucking interested to hear Nightlife, and it's even better - so fucking sinuous and dark, all fucking woozy altered-state with the insidious voice of Lady Cobra whispering honey-venom in your ear. It's black as nite with a rhythm that keeps on going, kiss and a promise - St. Jimmy never died, and here's the proof.

Clockwise
I don't know, I just can't take people seriously when they state their opinion like it's a fact. The way Billie delivers the chorus of Niightlife is very dreary, almost sadly. It just gets me every time I listen to it.
Drop Dead Hideous
I didn't know I needed to write an essay on my brief opinion that I don't like these songs, but if you must know, I think these songs are horse shit because Billie Joe is a brilliant musician, and he is not using that ability that he has. He is a great guitar player, and he rarely uses his skills, but here he is showcasing them even less than usual. The music seems so soul-less and boring. It sounds like they aren't trying anymore. The lyrics don't sound like they hold the weight that a lot of the old lyrics did. I also do not enjoy the way that Billie's voice sounds. All the new songs I've heard just seem so dull. Nothing in any of these songs intrigues me. The sound of the second song in this thread is simply unpleasant to my ears and that's that. Is my justification of why I don't like the sounds of these songs good enough for you? I don't need to justify my musical tastes to some random on the internet, but I have nothing better to do currently. I just flat out don't like the sounds, just like I don't like Nickelback or Creed. They sound like shit to me. It's not my thing. Also, it's quite the low-blow to insult my intelligence on the internet simply because my musical preferences differ than yours. I'm not the smartest person in the world by any means, but I happen to take pride in not being a dumb ass. I'm going to a school considered a public ivy. Just because I think new Green Day music is shit has no affect on my stupidity or intelligence. Sorry, brah. I get your point but if you say a horrible thing to the music that everybody loves here in the community, don't expect they will react nicely. Yeah, no one wants a song to be meaningless, but not every song needs to be extremely metaphorical and such. I do agree with you on the fact that Billie doesn't show off all of his talent, but I'm sure no one wants to listen to a 20 minute guitar solo in every song. Music is just about having fun, and Green Day is doing exactly that in this trilogy.

Todd
That's like saying Flo Rida is rap.... It's certainly more kind of pop than rap, it's kind of like this sort of style: youtube.com/watch?v=dvBPCm25z4I Now all they need to do is a reggae song Punk Ska I didn't know I needed to write an essay on my brief opinion that I don't like these songs, but if you must know, I think these songs are horse shit because Billie Joe is a brilliant musician, and he is not using that ability that he has. Just because I think new Green Day music is shit has no affect on my stupidity or intelligence. Sorry, brah. Well, all we have now is the party. Wait until Tré, where the ballads are deep, metaphorical, and reflective. With Brutal Love, (I think that has strings) Little Boy Named Train, and X-Kid, we already know that these songs are on a whole new level. You can feel the emotion when you read the article about these songs, and closing with "The Forgotton". That has a "No One Knows" sounding name. I like it already
Femme Gauche
He did say he was trying to get straight to the point with a lot of the new material - that that was kind of his aim - so it makes sense that the lyrics are simplistic. IMO, that does not by any means make them bad or weak. Then again, a lot of people find KYE to be weak, and I find it to be pretty strong. Repetitiveness can be redundant and overdone, but it can also really drive a point home.
Kitty Purry
Welll... just like tman684 said. There is gonna be a lot variety on these albums so if you don't like the the first album you might like the second or the third or whatever. SOO I think i will atleast love 1 album since I llike almost Green Day has ever done.

WestboundSign!
I'm sorry for saying something that might have been said before and we all know for sure, but I just had to "speak it out" now: Doesn't matter which band, they all have the same problem. Either they change and develop their style.. or they don't. And if they do so, a lot of people will dislike the new music. They got into the band while their music was different, so they really don't have to like the new songs, it's understandable if they don't. Of course it's great to see how many people still get used to the band's experiments and even get to like it. That's not the case for everyone, though. Oh and if the band doesn't change, hundreds of people will complain about the songs, which, of course, always sound "the same". You'll find a lot of similarities here. So whatever the band does, not all fans are going to like it. It's hard to strike a balance between remaining the same and changing your style. But in my opinion, Green Day have always been good at finding the happy medium, at least nearly. I think they've always stayed true to themselves, which might be most important. Still they've always tried to develop their sound, to take the right kind of risks but not to overdo it. After all, it's impossible to please everyone, to fulfill everyone's wishes or whatever. This post might be senseless and unnecessary - I just wanted to point out that it's normal fans like or don't like what a band does. Everyone's allowed to express their opinion, even though people who do so shouldn't exaggerate and be abusive about it. But if they aren't, please, let them have their opinion and their own thoughts. What a boring world would we live in if everyone had the same taste in everything? So yeah. Don't be mad at people who like or dislike the new stuff only because you might have a different opinion. Kaddi.
This is a good time for them to do this, because about a year ago I was a typical narrow-minded teenager and I thought rap sucked. Now I've started listening to Eminem, Ice Cube, Nas, etc, and I've broadened my horizons. If Green Day had done this in 2009, I probably would have hated it. Sorry, but how does his singing not fit the music? It's in time, and in key, and it's aggressive as fuck, just like the music. To me it just seems like on the one hand, there's the singing and on the other hand, there's the music. There's nothing wrong with the singing, I just think it doesn't go very well with the music. DannyDirnt
Annnnd this is also why I have barely been on this forum for years. Green Day at this point IS teeny-bopper music anyway to some extent. Do you not see the immense amount of 12 year olds around these parts? I love how you are getting your panties in a bunch because someone had a different opinion than you. You must function great in the real world, sir. Carry on now. I will go listen to Death Cab, Bon Iver, Brand New, and other amazing bands while I wait for Green Day to release good music again which sadly is not looking like something likely to happen. They have so much potential to continue making amazing music, but they are not. Also, I'm almost 19. Technically, I am an adult and obviously know how to carry on a civil conversation much more adequately than you. Now, go jerk off to Green Day and I will carry on with my life It's funny how you keep on saying you can carry on a civil conversation when you can't even give your opinion without insulting teens and Green Day music. You seriously need to mentally grow up and realise there are many teens here who are much more mature than you are now.

Anja
Just imagine Lady Cobra live speaking of which, do you think they're going to take her on tour to do Nightlife? That would be fun! She's a great performer. But seeing that her band just put out a new EP (or is going to), I think they're going to be busy touring themselves. It would be quite something though if they have the Mystic Knights open for them.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
It's funny how you keep on saying you can carry on a civil conversation when you can't even give your opinion without insulting teens and Green Day music. You seriously need to mentally grow up and realise there are many teens here who are much more mature than you are now. The point she made is true though, they are a band for teenagers. As for insulting Green Day's music, why should anyone care? They're not holy or anything. Insult anyone in the world's music for all I care. No point in fan forums if everyone just says this stuff is great, why can we not have people who loved earlier stuff but think the new stuff is "ear-puke"? Relentless positivity does not make for interesting conversations.
