Green Day performs at Reading Festival 2012 as staff tries ending show

Green Day took the stage of the Reading Festival early on Saturday with thousands of fans getting a high energy performance that definitely was worth watching. However, the organizers might not have been too pleased with the band as they ran over on their time slot. Trying to get the guys off stage, the staff repeatedly tried to turn off the power to the guitars of the band.

There were thousands of people watching and it was quite obvious the band was drawing the audience. With the full crowd, hundreds more were left watching the performance outside the venue on screens. The concert could have been ruined if the Reading Festival staff got their way as it was a battle of wills on stage. Trying to make sure the time was kept, the staff was seen trying to disconnect the power from Billie Joe Armstrong’s guitar, but in true rock and roll style, the band pushed the staff away and kept playing for the fans.

Green Day definitely pleased the fans, even if the festival was miffed at the opportunity to stretch the set. Leaving little choice to be share the music with the masses, it’s doubtful anyone will criticize the band for playing on, but as for the Reading Festival they should prepare for a mass amount of negative publicity for the tacky stunt.

Billie-Joe Armstrong, 40 years old and still playing his guitar slung around his knees. Back problems? Fuck that shit!

Oh Love really sounds like it works live. Truly jealous of all those people who got to see them in a tent.

The thing is this is all pretty irrelevant stuff.... The first band was meant to start at 12, who normally get around 30min slots. Then Pure Love was meant to start at 1.15, so there was a ridiculously long gap before hand planned. (possibly to fit a 30mins GD slot) instead they opened an hour early. That slot most likely would have still been free (changing every bands times around wouldnt have been possible) there may have been a chance of that slot filled with a longer set for "post war glamour girls". So unless someone who is actually at reading can confirm some bands got less time, we can cut saying it was a dick move etc because no one would have been affected at all really. They would have only wanted them off by 12 as "post war glamour girls" would have been waiting, not because of getting less time.

That makes me feel better then. Honestly, though, when I called it a "bit of a dickmove" initially, I wasn't even all that mad about it. I certainly wasn't expecting it to turn into a massive argument :P

WOW! I've probably said this too often by now, but they're so on fire right now. All these videos are so good, really impressed by their performances. Murder City is pretty awesome as well, I wouldn't mind it staying in the set :)

Thanks, I found a different program but the quality isn't as good as it is on the website so I'll try again later using one of those.

Also on the BBC3 Reading & Leeds homepage Oh Love and Green Day at Reading Festival are 2 or the most played videos :)

That's the first time ive really heard that song since it came out in 2010, I love the vocal harmonies during the chorus.

I was by the T.V at seven and missed Green Day because I was watching hippos and I thought they were on at 8! Stayed up though and got them at a quarter to 12.

To be honest I thought they weren't their best. They seemed tired or maybe hung over and what happened to Billies eye?

Great to hear a proper recording of Stay the Night though and the fans were hilarious. Someone was waving a box of Coco Pops in the air!

They are probably weighed down with jet-lag! traveling from the US to Japan to England and playing an early morning set, it's got to take it out of them a bit. And Billie has a spot/sty on his eyes (if you look at his instagram there is a pic of him holding a set list and you can see his eye clearly).

My friend and I were laughing so much a the coco pop box  Green Day t-shirt? NAH, I'll take my breakfast!

Ya I understand that they would be tired, I forgot about the jet lag I thought they were hungover! Billies voice wasn't fully there but still a good show, a Green Day is always a good show. Ya I saw the picture, he'll sort it out I'm sure.

Someone was waving a wellington as well! And the fans were going insane at the camera and some looked like they were about the pass out! A funny show to watch that's for sure!
