'Kill The DJ' Premiere

That's debatable, and it still doesn't sound right at all.

A bad lyric from Billie. shits rare.

It does sound a bit odd. Makes more sense in the live version though I guess. Mike and Jason (and others?) are singing "Someone kill the DJ" so Billie's basically singing "Unless you... shoot the fucking DJ."

Reminds me of when Morrissey sang over and over "Hang the DJ! Hang the DJ! Hang the DJ!"

Loved the Smiths.

Love Green Day.

I especially love how Billie says "fucking" and if I could just put that word on repeat for 3 minutes I totally would

... Green Day don't need magical power to do that.

Haha true!

But what I meant to say was that probably with magical powers they could have that effect on every single person in the world :)

you can hate me all you want but this is the worst song green day has ever released.

Actually it isn't. Unless you got some solid proof to back that statement up, it remains your personal worst song Green Day has ever released

I really don't think it's debatable, but I agree that it's not that good of a lyric.

I don't think it's debatable because "Unless you someone" really just does not make sense, but if you read it as "Unless you.." and then go into the chorus it does make sense.

Are there any official lyrics for Kill The DJ around yet, or are they all just people's own lyrics they figured out by ear?

He's saying, essentially, "unless you kill the dj". Don't get the big deal, he's certainly not the first to do it.

This song would be perfect to do brain washing, hypnosis or something like that  it gives me this impression, someone should try to listen it backwards to see if there are any subliminal messages  Just kidding! I love this song and I love that they tried this new sound... I really appreciate that. I didn't expect another Dookie, another Insomniac, another American Idiot... It would have been easier. They tried something different and I think that they're doing it very well

Ok I give up, I know deep down I don't like how much the chorus repeats but I have to give in to the beat of this song, how danceable it is, I can't help but press repeat.

My favorite lyric by far is "we are the vultures, the dirtiest kind".

Perfect metaphor about our modern society and the media. It seems like everyone lives off other people's failures. Everyone's constantly craving for the next scandal to feed off of it, passively watching untill it happens and "the DJ" reports on it. It's such a short and perfect way to depict the kind of society we live in right now.

I agree with the fact that it feels like an internal monologue going on over and over in someone's head while going mad, it fits my idea how what the song is trying to say very well, but the song sounds a little too upbeat to bring the same feeling across. It feels like a song is about someone's on the verge of going insane and "letting himself go" not caring anymore and detaching himself from modern society (Kind of what BoBD was on AI but with a completely different musical style). But that just makes me confused about why it's after Let Yourself Go on the album. Just seems like a very weird order.

I can't hate anybody with a mohawk like that. However, I strongly disagree with you and I would like to hear your reasoning. I would put Last Ride In waaayyyyyy ahead of this for worst Green Day song. Haha

Just took a look at the first few comments for this song on Ultimate-guitar expecting people to be slating Green Day, as that is just the norm on that site. But actually there are a lot of positive comments on there. Some even saying that its the best thing GD done in years :o Im stunned :P

Can everybody on this forum PLEASE go spam the fuck out of this article with pro-Green Day sentiments? I'm ashamed that one of my local papers let's this douchebag that's only into Indie write about new Green Day music. He's the same fuck-tard that wrote the awful review of "Oh Love." He gives a slightly less idiotic review of "Kill the DJ." Have fun http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/uponsun/2012/08/green_days_kill_the_dj.php

That isn't that strange as they haven't released anything in the last 3 years......

Basically he's saying that this is better than nothing.

Yes, I'm not serious

I love it! It wasn't what I was expecting at all from the clip we heard, but it just gets better with every listen! My favourite part is the part after the chorus "we are the vultures, the dirtiest kind...." and the guitar solo.

I agree with Angeline at least at this point - Uno may best be looked at in a non-linear (non-sequential) fashion. We won't really have a sense until the whole album drops whether the songs are best interpreted sequentially or whether their placement was more or less stylistic or even random.
