Comic Sans
Here's the thing - green day will never win. Never ever. There will always be those who want them to forever sound like Dookie, because it's cool to like like the early stuff with any band. There will always be those comments. I know this girl who liked hip hop until a couple years ago when she turned hipster. Suddenly she turns around and says she's only ever like old green day - yet I know she's only ever listened to one or two songs from their entire back catalogue. This is pretty much the same situation with probably half the Internet commenters and music snobs out there, so why let it bother you? Green Day certainly don't. Like what you like and who gives a fuck about anyone else. Dookie isn't the master piece they all say it is. Yes and no. I agreed with you since "about anyone else". Then not. Dookie IS a masterpiece. NOBODY TOUCH MY DOOKIE!!!

Jimmy the Kid
Dude... if you do anything with audio production, mixing, etc like I do on a normal basis, there's a huge difference between using the Auto-Tune plug-in and a pitch correction plug-in. Auto-Tune sounds fake, pitch correction sounds more real. And yes, I know people commonly put auto-tune and pitch correction together but they're different if you know what you're talking about. Yes, "I do anything with audio production, mixing, etc" like you do on a normal basis. The question is: Are you graduated? I'm not. Auto-tune sounds unreal if you stretch it too much. If it's done just to correct a small percentage you can't even notice it. There are lots of programs to pitch-correct vocals and instruments, but... The most widely used one is auto-tune, fact. Maybe the effect on the song is done on purpose, since it is so noticeable, but it's there, and most probably, the whole song, let alone the whole trilogy, is pitch corrected, probably by auto-tune, and you don't even notice it. It has nothing to do with the program but with the level of correction applied. Try it yourself.

Ryan
I feel the need to chime in because I am 26, have been listening to Green Day since '95, and that makes me a better judge than anybody else here (completely joking about that last part). I can't fucking stand people who are bashing Green Day and these two new singles because of the way they sound and talking like their word is the word of God. Music is subjective...people have their own opinions. So please don't talk about how much yuo hate a new song, and then trash people who offer arguments as to why they like it. And yes, I understand that this goes both ways. Now, onto my analysis of Green Day music over the years. I will start by saying that I'm a classically trained vocalist and am extremely well-versed in music theory. I'm not saying that this makes me better than any of you, but you all deserve to know where I'm coming from. I do not love all Green Day songs. There are many that I think are just good, and there are a few that I skip any time they come on. I believe that the evolution of Green Day over their career is fucking incredible. I would rank my favorite albums as follows: 21st CB = AI > Warning > Insomniac > Dookie > 1039 > Nimrod > Kerplunk These rankings are based on a combination of musical depth, back-up vocals, general song sound, and how much I can sing along to everything (the "catchiness factor") I in no way expect everybody here to agree with me, but that's what makes music (and Green Day) so fucking awesome. I personally CANNOT WAIT for this trilogy. From what I've heard so far, I believe that this could be Green Day's best music in their career. Disagree with me if you'd like, but at lease use some fucking logic and be able to back-up your points if you do...because I know that I can back up mine. No need to joke because it is quite true.
DannyDirnt
No need to joke because it is quite true. I don't know to what point. Ryan
I don't know to what point. I have only been a GD fans ince this same year, but I have listened to all their albums anyway, so I can judge them too. I think his point is that us older fans were able to hear the albums when they came out and put them into context with everything else that was going on. It also means that we heard Green Day in chronological order. Finally, it means that we have been able to listen to these albums for 10+ years as opposed to listening to them for one year. Again, I don't think that makes us better than you younger/newer fans, it just gives us a bit more context. Honestly, I love the fact that some youngsters are getting hooked on my favorite band :-)

Ritz
I love this song. All those who are tending to make up their minds about the trilogy, please guys its too early ! At least let UNO come out ! I'm glad that Green Day is trying something new. Its funky and most importantly, for me, the bass is fucking awesome. Not even bothering reading the arguments. Last two three pages gave me a terrible headache.
Heather.
21st CB = AI > Warning > Insomniac > Dookie > 1039 > Nimrod > Kerplunk I like this (though I can't fathom 1039 over Kerplunk, but anyway...) because even though that wouldn't be the order of my FAVORITE albums, it's a pretty honest and almost objective way of seeing the progression of their music. Just like I always thought 21CB is in a lot of ways "better" than American Idiot, I still love AI a whole lot more. And even though I like Dookie a lot more than Insomniac, I can still see certain steps that happened to make Insomniac more mature.

Yeah...I think they are my favorites because of that musical progression. And honestly, Kerplunk is probably my least listened to album...which is probably why I put it at the bottom. That being said, I actually think that Nimrod is my least favorite album...even though I love a lot of songs on it. Haha. That's what makes Green Day so great. I would still listen to any of those 8 albums over any other album in existance.
Annie, get your gun
The 2nd and last time I listened it was the original version and I could appreciate it a lot more. This is what I feel about it: I love it. It doesn't sound like anything they've done before, and those guitars are madness. The chorus stopped being repetitive and though it'd change -perhaps for the better- if it was faster, is just perfect.
DannyDirnt
I see it more like Warning > Kerplunk > 1039 > Insomniac > Nimrod > AI > Dookie > 21CB About KtDJ, I kinda prefer the live version. Faster and the "Someone kill the DJ" sound better with Mike and Jason singing instead.

And I actually really agree with your Kill the DJ critique in regards to the backup vocals. It's actually Mike, Jason White, Jason Freese, and Jeff Matika singing backups though...which makes it even better!! I have no idea why I love it so much, but for me it's the album I'd give to a friend who wants to get into Green Day. It represents all of their musical styles in my opinion Not one weak track on it. icyfire34
I'd prefer to hear a beep. It's adds to the song in some cases. Like the American Idiot radio edit. And it would it could have a double meaning if it was put into Kill The DJ. Because of censoring and everything. although that is true, i love hearing billie curse like the potty mouth he is my mom and dad dont like green day so its better for me to listen to the censored version
