Brigister Posted August 16, 2012 Share Posted August 16, 2012 Just checked out the video. First reaction, meh. I feel the band aren't in it enough which they probably are it just dosent feel like it. The girls are underused it seems like 90% of the video is just close ups of women's faces or an arm or a leg. The song is great the video is bland despite the eye candy. That's what I felt too. I have the feeling that they actually are not that into the song as well. I'm pretty sure it's not the band the one that chooses which songs to make singles and I have this feeling that Oh Love is not actually what they wanted to be the first single. MTV doesn't allowed me to watch it from their site, so link anyone? From what I've seen so far, the video isn't something special, a bit bored I'd say.. bbut interview was AWESOME! I enjoyed every second of it. So funny. Also guys look fantastic. Looking forward to hear Lady Cobra, the way that Billie spoke about it got me very interested. I wanted the video to have some kind of story, it wouldve been way more awesome and fun to watch.. not only half naked girls who look bored as fuck. But maybe I'm stupid for expecting other people to be a little bit kinder and a bit more supportive to other people that come here to try and make friends with similar interests... again I wasn't asking people to agree with me or my opinion, but it would have been nice for someone to at least try and be kind to someone who is upset about something that maybe you think isn't a big deal, but it might have been to another human being with feelings too. I didn't have anything else to say about this, but that's just ridiculous. Do they mean that because the girls are with the band or something? That hack's been riding on the coattails of Smells Like Teen Spirit for almost 20 years, and shit like Oh Love is all that he's got left in the bag: random tits and ass, throw in a few bursts of confetti, add a dash of absurd lens flares and editing jazz, then collect the paycheck. He doesn't even attempt to elicit a narrative from the song, nor have the band do anything other than "rock star" around a crummy warehouse. I'agree... i'm 36 married ,i had a past of listening music and seeing videao...what do u want care to me about this ?only that this video dont rapresents the band of my youth (80'/90' and also all the time before this..i fight when ppl said That with AI they changed) and i swear...all my male friends dislike it.. Originally I liked it, y'know, as it's clear Green Day's not taking themselves too serious, so I was trying to go the same route, but now ... I dunno. The random close ups of hard chick nipples just seemed so random, like, 'HERE'S SOME TITTAYZ W00T'. Which is fine for pretty much everything else, but when it comes to something I take as srsly as Green Day's music, I just ... I dunno, man. It's gonna take a fuckload of time for me to get used to this. Just ... Seems so unlike them, even with all the explanations people have come up with. And even with the semi nude shots that were in the JOS video. And the sex scene in the AI musical. And after I just totally accepted that this was gonna be a great series of albums, as well. Heh. I agree that the use of the women and the titties were too random. It made no sense really. What would have made it a better video in my own opinion is that the girls would fade away in the end from the setting as if they were not really there but just hanging around as a naughty attitude that the band is having backstage. But still, I don't see the problem with not having a narrative or anything so complex and linear. Also I don't think you have to try to make an iconic video at all. What would you have done in his position to make a video, about lust and sex, that would be considered beautiful and simple to make an iconic video? burnout409 Posted August 16, 2012 Share Posted August 16, 2012 Once again after watching a few more times and thinking about it, i really like the video, its new and refreshing, i didn't really enjoy the 21st Century Breakdown Videos very much myself and this in my opinion is better than them for the most part. I think Green Day are just trying to be less serious than they have been on the previous 2 records, there's a more relaxed atmosphere i think and just generally fun not just in this video but the with everything at that's happening. I love American Idiot don't get me wrong my favorite album ever, but its nice to see them do something less political and serious for the 1st time in coming up for 10 years!
