Oh Love Music Video

Comic Sans

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this was the intention, but Tre does love him some Duran Duran . . . And if you were to look at videos for Girls on Film and The Chauffeur (PG and R versions for both) -- there are definite similarities in the staging and concept (band plays while "action" occurs around them). I'm not saying that this is some sort of homage to New Wave of the early '80s, BUT all three are very much part of the MTV generation (like myself), and Billie has said that the songs on Uno were hearkening back to his youth in some respects. So I think it's reasonable to see at least a nod to those child/early teen experiences. Misogyny and all.

Plus (and we hate to admit this) it's a great marketing ploy -- and two versions -- that's double the internet hits. Straight from the Maroon5 playbook.

Just look how long this thread is. Think of this video as their version of a sex tape.

That's a real R version.

youtube.com/watch?v=CX7ur4Ey5X4&feature=plcp

That's the censored version, the real one is only available on porn sites (no one link it here obviously ).

Still not that big of a fan for either version. I feel like they could have done so much with the concept and Bayer took the easy way out.

However, in the R rated video the models "interact" more and seem less mannequin-like.

But that's just my own opinion.

I share your opinion. Bit of a shame the video's a bit dull. But it's alright.

One thing that disappointed me most about this video was that NONE of those girls were one of the band members in drag.

What a missed opportunity.

The R rated version wont work for me. I can get the music to play but the video goes black. It's probably because I'm using an old laptop with old programs, etc. Could someone post it somewhere else please?

Edit: Wait, I find that odd that we're not allowed to post the R rated version here.. It's a Green Day video... Surely it should be posted on their fan sites?! Hmm...it was intended to be viewed.

Wait. You're a girl and you watch porn?

Average penis size is between 5-6 inches.

Because I feel the need to use drugs/alcohol to enhance life or drown my problems.

I'm not having sex because I'm 17 and I don't want to get a girl pregnant and have to drop out of school, because I think about my future. Rock I don't have a problem with. Drugs and excessive use if alcohol are for the weak and/or stupid.

I've seen what it's done to my mom, cousins and some of the people I used to call friends. I don't pity them.

Only the weak use stuff like that to escape problems. Only the people who don't think about the decisions they make use them as an enhancer.

Your decision not to have sex it that, your decision and there's nothing wrong with that but just FYI, so long as birth control/protection is used correctly there's not much of a chance of you getting a girl pregnant. Also if she did get pregnant you wouldn't necessarily have to drop out of school. Also if you did you could still work to have a good future. I find your statement about drugs and excessive alcohol being for weak and/or stupid people as incredibly uninformed and inaccurate. People who turn to drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism means they have had to be too strong for too long. Stronger than others. They've had a very hard life in a lot of cases. I find many people who use drugs and are alcoholics are actually incredibly intelligent, emotional, sensitive, lovely beings who this harsh world has been too cruel to. Your judgment helps no-one. All I can tell is that you've lived a privileged life to be able to pass such harsh judgment. That, or you just need to grow up and gain some insight and knowledge. This is coming from someone who is single, not looking, doesn't drink, smoke or take drugs btw.

Have to say this Trilogy's turning out to be a wild ride from the get-go - songs coming at you every which way, each one provoking all kinds of reactions in people, a controversial video, and all this before Uno's even been released. Makes me wonder what lies ahead for Dos!!

Wow. The only thing that kept me entertained was the split second nipple close up. Do I dare watch the PG version?

Oh and I forgot to say I was worried the video would be very, very not-Green Day but I don't think it's actually completely alien in style so I'm happy about that.

Ugh fuck it, it's 4am, I'm just going to go to bed. If we're not allowed to post the R version here so (?) could someone pm it or fb it to me or whatever.

Asking for porn at 4am on a Green Day forum. Classy.

My only reaction from the R rated version:

OH GOD TRE WHYYYYYY

I'm scared now!

Ah, so jaded - back in the day, a split-second nipple would've kept people entertained for weeks, and here you have a song and all to go with it. Think yourself lucky to get a split-second nipple with the economy the way it is - fuckit, I think that nipple represents The One Per Cent!!

:D

It just doesn't make sense to me. I get where they're coming from kind of but it's still pretty weird. As far as the performance piece goes, it's actually one of my favourites from Green Day and it works in the small environment with not many people but I really don't like the girls and all that.

From what I've heard so far, I don't even want to know about the R rated version :/

I've seen it take place. Believe me I'm not misinformed my mom's a crackhead.

My brother got hooked on ice because he had problems with his mom, my dad tried to help him, but he just sunk into his own self pity.

There's different ways of coping with problems, outlets outside of drugs and alcohol. And just because you're intelligent doesn't mean you don't make stupid decisions. It is a stupid decision. I know people who've lived a harsh life. A very harsh life. Did they turn to drugs? No. They tried to better themselves from the situations they are in and use it as motivation to leave that enviroment and make something of themselves, instead of destroying themselves. Now if you choose to do drugs just to do drugs, then you're just plain stupid. Like "you have no excuse" stupid. And how could I have a successful life and still graduate if I got a girl pregnant. My dad told me if I ever did he wouldn't take care of the kid, he/she would be my responsibility.

The video turned out better than I thought it would, the guys looked great performing and the girls served their purpose of bringing the sexual tension across. My fear was mainly that it'd go beyond showing sexual tension into some sort of voyeurism vibe but it didn't imo. All I can accuse the video of is being quite boring and containing nothing more than a good looking band performance and the sexual tension portrayal.

About the thread, let me first just say that the few people saying the video was boring, then saying the R-rated version will probably better just make themselves look like pathetic horny teenagers. Is that really would would make a music video better for you? Throw some R-rated content in there and it'll all be fine. So shallow.

The above mentioned people might just be the cause of the next thing that annoyed me in this thread, oversensitive feministic women. If all you can see is women to attract the gaze of men you're just not listening to the music. Listen to what the song is about before deciding you're going to say the women are there for no reason. They're there to portray what the song is about… sexual tension… You make it seem like you have something against the existence of that concept. It's common for people, most of the time people of opposite sexes, to be attracted to each other. It's also common for an artist to write about life experiences, one of which is sexual tension. It's common for artists to then make a video to accompany that song and it's contents. Nothing more, nothing less happened. I didn't see anything overdone just to attract viewers with sexiness, all I saw was a very mediocre music video to accompany a song about sexual tension.

The R-rated version is a whole other story, it really just looked like it was forced in there for no reason, didn't add any value, absolutely nothing was better about the video and I have no idea why they thought it was necessary to make a version like that. I'm not going to stop you complaining about that one.

Edit: forgot to mention the interview was great, if you missed it you should still check it out.

My reaction to the video is a resounding "ehhhhhhhhh. ehh. That's it?"

I would quite happily have watched just the band performing, without the girls. I just didn't get it. I do realise it's supposed to be 'sexual tension', but it was just incohisive - I think a lot more could have been done to promote the 'sexual tension' than just having a load of semi-naked girls lay around seductively staring into the camera. Just seems lazy, you know?

And Tre. Just... it was just not classy. Boobs for the sake of boobs is stupid, especially when they could have done a lot more with the video.

Seriously, it just seemed like Sam Bayer couldn't think of anything, and just said 'BOOBIES'.

I missed the first ten minutes of the interview... did they actually talk about the video or explain their reasoning behind it? By the time I loaded the live stream they were talking about Kill the DJ.

Just saw the R rated version, it was a simple music video with edgy sexual tension! Oh love was also a simple song about sexual tension. I don't see why fans are so butthurt about this video! It's thousands of times better then Wake Me Up When September Ends

It's not if you do it or not that makes you weak/stupid, it's how you do it.

If you're talking about using drugs as an extension of yourself for things like art and music then that's just unfair.

Like athletes that take steroids.

Am I the only one who actually liked the video. I liked that it was different. These 3 albums are going to be different from all the other ones. I'm really excited about it.
