At least the quarto mistake isn't as bad as what U2 did at the start of "Vertigo", Bono sings "Uno, dos, tres, catorce [1,2,3,14]

I agree, it was really weird to listen to that the first time. I speak Spanish cause I'm Chilean. Really non-sense :D

So happy about Quatro's cover, although they spelled wrong the word CUATRO.

You can spell it both ways depending what language you are using it in

^It's "Cuatro"

Jason is officialy an unofficial member :D damn he's fucking great!

I think Jason has always officially been the unofficial 4th member

But really, I don't see what the big deal is. He's done enough with them at this point to be considered the 4th member, why not give credit where credit's due? Plus, he looks awesome in photo shoots with the band, so why not.

Exactly hes in the booklet photos credited with group and not just additional musicians section Billie said he was 4th member in interviews

Whats more needed Billie Mike Tre takin turns and having sex with him on stage?

In Spanish four is written CUATRO. If you write that word like that would be like I say "PHOUR" instead of "FOUR"!! xD

:o:huh: My entire understanding of Spanish is now in question....

I'm pretty sure in Spanish it's just cuatro. According to my dictionaries and the internet. Quatro must be Portuguese, as Karol Oliveira said.

But it would be weird to go from Spanish to Tré to Portuguese. Makes no sense. And it ruins the Tré pun. No me gusta.

Edit: So, "Quattro" (with two Ts) is Italian for four. But Spanish has no such word. There's cuatro and quarto, but definitely not quatro. The first Q word in my big Spanish dictionary is que.

That's what I meant, quatro is portuguese.

You sure you weren't accidentally taking a Portuguese class? :P

Yeah but he still doesn't play the same role in the band as the other three, he doesn't do promo and interviews with them and his stage role is more in the background. I don't think that's a negative thing at all, it works perfectly for him/them and however they want things set up is fine by me. But as yet they still haven't chosen for him to have the exact same level of involvement and maybe never will, that's why even though he clearly is a member of the band and is now writing and playing on the albums (which is awesome!) I can see why people would still think of him as more an "unofficial official member" compared to the other three. They don't seem to be bothered about what he's labelled anyway so I don't really think it matters, they just do what works for him and the band and get on with it.

I'll pass, thanks.

Regardless of what is official or what has been confirmed by whom- in my eyes, Green Day will always be the trio from Berkeley.

Got a bit of a surprise today when I was going through my iUno! booklet and saw promo photos of the four guys for the first time. I've always liked Jason, and I really respect and admire him as a guitarist, but Green Day is Billie, Mike and Tré to me. It seemed kinda weird to not see Billie in the middle in the promo shots  I dunno, I think I see the three guys as the core of the band and the two Jasons and Jeff as the outer shell, and I like it that way! But, as iUno! has proven, change is good :)

I feel really bad about not wanting Jason in the band, because I love Jason! <3

It's just... I always pictured the 3 guys writing the songs, recording them, and then the other guys helping out on stage since they can't do everything themselves live.

If Jason's in the band, I feel like Jason F. and Jeff should also be in the band...

but you don't see bands too often adding members... it's just weird to me.

I've pictured the guys getting help with song writing from Jason White and Jason Freese ever since they both started appearing on stage with them. To me, there is absolutely nothing wrong or weird about having Jason White as an official member. He is an amazing guitar player, very cool guy, and I have a strong feeling that a lot of the amazing sounds we are hearing in UNO have a lot to do with him.

What difference does it really make though? "Official" "unofficial" "member of the band", it's just words. Before Jason just played live with them but now he's written and played some guitar on the album too. It's not a huge deal, he would've been hanging out and jamming with them in the studio during making AI and 21st CB too so adding some input to the actual writing and recording process is just a step up from that. He's contributed to the music so he's being recognized for it that's all. The band and their music and shows will still be the same so in reality whether he's called a member or in the odd photoshoot or not won't make a lot of difference.

Well, it's not just words. Words represent concepts, and Jason being official or unofficial is a different concept with different implications, even if small.

I kind of agree with Lauren and some others here. While I respect Jason and am happy he's been such an integral part of the band for so long, I'm still just used to Green Day being a trio. That's just what my brain imagines when I think "Green Day." I like them being a trio.... it's just something I've known for so long that it's hard to re-train myself and picture an extra person being there. It's not normal to me, and it would take a lot of getting used to. Plus, maybe I'm just overly nostalgic, but I want to keep Green Day how they've always been, even if that itself is inherently impossible. I know this, but I want them to be the same (in essence) forever. I don't know how to explain it....

And I agree with what gmcloughlin said - to me Green Day proper is Billie, Mike, and Tré, the inner core. Jason W, Jason F, and I guess Jeff (he still seems new to me though) are like the outer shell. It seems like a good analogy. It's like different layers of Green Day, and I like them having that vague separation. There are two distinct levels in my mind, and I'm resistant to Jason W shifting roles.

It's true that Jason has been an important part of GD, and I don't mind that he's contributed to studio recordings now too. But I still have this imaginary line there. He's kind of like the two horn players for No Doubt (the same ones who played on King For A Day, btw) - they've been with ND since they started, and they've recorded parts on all their albums and always tour with them, but they're like the outer shell of No Doubt. The extra members beyond the main four. That's how I think of both Jasons and Jeff.

I feel bad about not wanting Jason to *officially* be part of Green Day. But at the same time I'm selfish and don't want things to change. Green Day just makes sense as a trio in my mind. Jason as the unofficial, outer shell is perfect in my opinion. He should, of course, be credited for his increased involvement in making the new songs, but I don't want it to be that much of a jump. Mostly because I'm being selfish and resistant to change. :S

I see what you're saying but I don't think it is much of a jump. He's still not doing interviews/tv appearances etc with them or really behaving like a "full" member of the band, other than being credited and being in those photos nothing else has actually changed. Their music, shows, personality as a band and all the rest of it is all still the same. Dunno if it'll change more in the future or not, but it seems like an extremely gradual and subtle change so far to me.

I agree. Since he's not doing promo and interviews and whatnot, I still don't think he's an official bend member. He still seems to be unofficial, and that's totally fine with me.

But if he does become official and start doing all the official band stuff, then that's how I'd feel.

Though since he's said no in the past, I don't really see him changing his mind anyway. I think he likes having less public attention; he's kind of shy, right?

So the question was put to Jason about Quatro and the response was that it was a DVD but he didn't know more than that and then this was said:

fluke fanzine@fluke_fanzine

@GreenDayMind yep! I love that he doesn't know. He's always been like that w/GD. "Just tell me where to be and when."

erm, that doesn`t actually answer the question of whether Jason is officially a member or not.

and I think that the question itself at the moment is up for debate.

what does it mean to be a member of green day?

full member to me means - being part of the writing, recording, performing process. in the interviews, photoshoots and all the rest of the crap.

is he part of "green day" the family/gang? hell yes! has been for years! and there are more people in that than most realise!

You're right. I meant to clarify this was his attitude towards the whole situation. Guessing here but it like he's saying, "I'm in show me where to go and when you want/need me." Full member? Maybe not by your criteria. But full musical member - absolutely. And it kind of sounds like he doesn't really mind not being a part of the interviews and photoshoots.
