I think it's great, Jason has been around and touring with Green Day for fucking ever. I'm glad to see he is finally an official member now.

I would also like to add that it clearly states the 4 of them as "Green Day" and lists Jason Freese and Jeff as "Additional Green Day Musicians." BIG distinction between Freese/Matika and Jason White :-D

as soon as someone invents a time machine that allows Jason to be involved in the writing and recording process for dookie through 21st century breakdown, he will never be an official member.

When the same time machine allows Tre to be involved with the writing and recording process for 1000 Hours through Sweet Children, will he be an official member too?

Mods should put a nail in this one. It's pretty much decided I think from here on out. I for one, like I've said before, have pretty much considered Jason to be a member since American Idiot, and my belief was confirmed even more when the guys started to leave him out on stage during old songs and put him in music videos. Good to see Jason getting the credit he has earned and deserved, I for one think he is a fantastic singer/songwriter/musician, and I'm more than happy to accept him as a full-time member of Green Day. It's unfortunate that he's going to be victim of new guy syndrome, but seriously, the dudes been with them for almost 11 years now, It's not that big of a deal.

maybe when jason has put 20 years into writing and recording their music. not when he simply is a lead guitar puppet playing what billie wrote.

Bands change all the time with people who have never even played with the band. Is Chris Shiflett not in the Foo Fighters because he didn't record or write anything anything 02 back?? common man.. atleast its not some random new guitar player

Exactly if this was the case only Dave would be Foo Fighters cause the first album was all Dave

You're a fucking idiot if you think Jason's only presence in the band is being a "puppet" playing what Billie wrote. He is now officially a contributing member and his input obviously matters to Billie/Mike/Tre. He is a member of Green Day. Don't like that? WhiteTim already posted pretty much the only thing you can do: deal with it.

Did anyone hear that Green Day added Jason to Green Day?

..And that there is no more reason to discuss it?

If he's a puppet then what the fuck are you, he's a million times more talented than you

Your a fucking moron jace. No one even likes you when you are this fucking ignorant and dumb

Lol why is everyone obsessed with the word "official"? No one in the band's ever used the word.

And there's no need for things to get heated in here. Whether you consider someone an "official" "unofficial" or "unofficially official" member of a band shouldn't be something to get stressed over. Especially as it seems abundantly clear that Jason and the band don't care about what he's labelled as. So be civil to each other please.

I'm going to add my few cents into this, because I've already discussed it heavily in the comment threads even though it's a bit late.

Personally, I DON'T consider Jason a full member. I think there is just as much evidence for and against it both ways. My biggest irritation with it all is that, even though it's not that important, the label/band won't just come out and black and white (lol puns) say it.

Yes, he is in the album covers and books, as well as credited on Cuatro. But then again, no one in the band has said "official" yet, not that I've seen anyways. Using Tre's drink joke as reliable evidence isn't that valid, as he isn't very serious usually at all, and may have just thrown Jason in because he's always around. When the Idiot Club issued a mini bio a few weeks Jason wasn't even mentioned in the slightest bit. Even if the band DOES issue a statement on the matter, I won't really consider him a member at all.
Yea I know it's not my band blah blah blah, it's up to them. I think we all know this. But Jason really HAS'NT brought anything to this group. In studio nothing until recently, live he only ever plays what BJA wrote, not to mention h has piss poor stage presence to boot!

Also, using the "So Tre wasn't on 1000 hours " argument is so damn invalid and wrong. Tre has been on almost every album, having written and recorded all of his own parts. Jason has only ever played live with them, and just recently recorded anything. Putting those two on the same level is just moronic.

Until I get an official statement stating otherwise, I don't consider him a full member. It doesn't really matter in the end of course, but I just don't like it. I don't like his music, stage presence, or even guitar tones that much.
In the end, it's irrelevant. I just felt the need to add in that we have just as much evidence for both sides. He's in the credits, but is that just because he recorded so much it wouldn't work under "extra musicians"? Or is it just temporary for the trilogy? Who knows. I especially dislike him as the cover for cuatro, when it should have been an image of the trio, with it being a documentary of them.

In short, someone said this on the forums and it made a lot of sense saying he "rode in on the coat tails of his friends band". I'm sure he's a nice enough guy and all, but I'd prefer if he WAS NOT a member, it would ruin the trio status ;)

ok i figured i put in my two cents as well. since its generally been stated by Green Day that Jason White is officially band member #4 then he is ON PAPER the official 4th member. HOWEVER, on a more personal note, i WANT to accept him as the 4th and he has definently served his time long enough to be considered a member, but for me, i dont know him and thats the problem. i dont know his personality or what he REALLY offers to the band. in an interview, the trio was talking about essentially who's who in the band. Billie was the pateint laying in a bed in therapy talking about how he was finger fucked as a child, Mike was the shrink, and Tre was the finger fucker. horrible analogy i know, but Billie pours his heart into the music with his, "i tell it like it is and dont give a shit" attitude, Mike in interviews and music throws in great little one liners (or chords i suppose), and Tre is a party animal. where would Jason fit in this equation? i dont know and thats why FOR NOW i have a hard time accepting him into band just like "that", itll take some time, but im willing to accept him. he just needs to be way more open like the trio.
