Anyways, I was slightly perplexed when I first heard about this but I think it's great, really. Billie Joe is a fucking amazing singer. To me, technical ability means very, very little and many others feel the same. I don't care about what fucking octave you hit, I care about how you make me feel. He is an open soul when he sings, an incredibly expressive performer, entertainer, showman, frontman, magician, trickster...absolutely captivating, we hold our breath watching him with eyes unblinking. Besides, he has Broadway experience, knows how to sing in a tiny punk dive or at a rock and roll stadium show and anything in-between. He's learned a lot over the years, especially the past few and there's no voice I'd rather listen to than his nasal-y, non-enunciated snarl! As long as he's made to feel comfortable enough in this setting and position, I think he'll give invaluable advice. It's fantastic promotion for UDT too! I hope he gets a lots of air time. ^__^

Lol, you don't hit an octave, you hit notes :P

But I actually agree with everything you said. Well put!

It doesn't matter how technically perfectly someone can sing, because they can hit all the notes, but if they don't feel what they're singing then it doesn't matter. It doesn't translate. What I love about Billie Joe is that he can truly emote the lyrics of the song, and his communicating the sentiment so well is what allows listeners to relate to the songs. That's what makes a a decent song great, is being able to translate your own feelings to an audience, who then interpret it and may apply it to their own life. (Though I think he does technically sing well too - he has decent range, according to the internet.)

I keep seeing ads for the new show and keep hoping to see a glimpse of Billie! So far, nothing though. ;(

Oh, I realised the quote I posted is just some of what she said in the video interview, woops!

I'm actually glad he chose Christina over Adam. I think Christina is a bitch but they come from such different backgrounds and genres, it makes for a more interesting mix and there's more diverse experience there. Maroon 5 have turned into such a terrible, terrible band whose sole goal seems to be getting into the charts. It's a shame because I liked their breakout record. Also it would be a bit weird for Billie Joe of one of the greatest and biggest rock bands in the world to be just a mentor to judge Adam (from a much less worthy band )'s team!!

 I actually realised that while I was writing that post but decided to leave it because like the post said, I don't really care about that sort of stuff!

Thanks.

Yeah, I think Billie Joe is wonderful at getting people to relate to his music. I think he sings technically well too!! Especially since broadway.

Can't believe this was on page 3!

Anyway there's a new quote from Christina from Rolling Stone

The third season of The Voice brings on a new set of mentors to assist the coaches, none more attention-grabbing than Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, who's working with Christina Aguilera.

While that may seem like an odd pairing, Aguilera tells Rolling Stone they've had a blast. "It’s nice to get together and both vent and laugh," she says. "We laughed our asses off, oh my God, we made each other laugh."

For Aguilera, who said at a recent press junket for The Voice that she is working on a new album, it was inspiring to be around Armstrong, who is as involved in the process of making Green Day's albums as Aguilera is with her music

And also an interview with Tony Vincent about the Voice and Billie Joe : http://www.wetpaint....rhood-exclusive

It was working on American Idiot that Tony formed a close relationship with Season 3 mentor Billie Joe Armstrong. In fact, after Tony originated the role of St. Jimmy in the show, Billie Joe himself was the one to take over when Tony’s run ended.

“[billie Joe] was very hands-on during the creation of American Idiot,” Tony said. “He knew I got who this character was, and he allowed me a lot of rope. It turned into much more of a social relationship than a directorial relationship.”

And knowing Billie Joe as well as he does, Tony is looking forward to seeing his friend working with Christina Aguilera this season.

“I think she tends to be drawn to these very large voices, very epic in nature, and he’s much more about the authenticity of the artist regardless of vocal acrobatics, so I think him alongside her creates an amazingly talented team,” Tony said. “That girl can sing her face off, but I think working with Billie Joe she can learn a lot too.”

^^ Sounds like Tony's cryptic way of saying "Sure, Christina can really sing better, but Billie could teach her a few things about being a real person"

Do you think is there any chance to expect a collaboration song from BJ and CA or GD and CA?

A collaboration between Green Day and Christina aguilera? Oh God, please no!

For what purpose? It has nothing to do with the fact of Billie Joe giving advice to the singers on her team.

I would personally love to see them perform together on the show. It sounds so wrong, yet could actually be pretty cool. Or, it could be disastrous and hilarious.

I've never watched the voice before and well, never really heard of it until that youtube video interview.

I don't think it's wrong. CA has a song called Fighter which is kind of Rock and came out in 2003. Trying something new is not bad for CA because she is a gread singer indeed.

Billie joe has a great voice too but I think singing abilities of CA mixed with song writing and singing abilities of BJ will definately have a great outcome

Saw the Tony interview earlier today. Loved his quotes :D

Hadn't seen the Christina one though! I find it interesting that she keeps emphasizing how much he makes her laugh....it's almost creepy :ermm:

The Voice contestants didn't know who Billie Joe was....

http://www.ology.com...e-armstrong-was

Disturbing. [Rant starts here] I understand if you're not a Green Day fan not recognizing him, that's fair enough, but then once Christina says "This is Billie Joe ... FROM GREEN DAY!" I think it's culturally inexcusable to not even have HEARD of Green Day. I was expecting the contestants to not necessarily be Green Day fans, and maybe even dislike Green Day, but to definitely KNOW WHO THE FUCK THEY ARE. Of course there's no way in hell they haven't heard a Green Day song, but still. I don't even want to see that on TV, it's embarrassing. I hope they edit it out, or at least show the contestants who DID know who he was, if there are any... jeeez.

I think the majority of the world doesn't really know who Billie Joe Armstrong is, fine. But Green Day...

I actually think that is kind of hilarious and a bit of a relief that they don't know who he is. Green Day are huge worldwide but I am glad to know that they are not in the same place culturally as, say, Jay-Z or fucking Snookie.

Have they lived under a rock for the past 20 years?!

I find this hilarious and not at all surprising. I was actually wondering if they would know who he was. Hopefully he inspired some of them to check out Green Day's music.
