Not thrilled about him working with Floptina, but I'll watch anyway. Thank God it's only for a few episodes, though, because there's only so much of her (and Adam Levine) I can handle!

I think Billie being on the Voice is good for the band, and for the new albums comming out, but idk, I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that he could replace a judge..... But I'm still contemplating if that's a good or bad thing.

When i first say this news I thought it was fake as the band will be so busy in September anyway with PR for Uno etc...

I guess he just really wanted to do it, and it's PR of a sort.

Just because someone dislikes or disagrees with this idea doesn't mean they're upset or accusing Billie of anything. They're just expressing their opinion, it's not really any different to saying you're excited.

A lot of people aren't fans of this kind of show and Billie is a massive part of their lives, so of course they're not going to ignore it and think nothing. But it's only the same as a friend getting a bad haircut, you're not hating him for it or saying he shouldn't do it, not at all. It's his choice and that's cool - there's probably good reasons behind it - but you're allowed to personally dislike the idea for whatever reason. Whether it affects you or not, you still don't like the haircut, right?

I'm sure they might feel differently when they actually see the show. In the meantime though, they're entitled to say what they feel whether it's positive or not - and allow room for a big reaction, Billie probably means a lot to them. They're not going to stop taking Green Day's actions seriously overnight.

I'm not saying I personally think this is really bad, just give people a break. We're allowed to differ in opinion and it doesn't mean they're angry or need a slap.

I don't see why this is bad thing, I reckon it'll be cool seeing Billie on The Voice.

Ha I love the video! Christina put Billie to shame with her y'knows . Also she's an amazing singer and I really like her so that's another reason I'm excited to see this.

I'm not surprised that people are whinging (as whatever Billie does people whinge about it even if it's something that won't affect Green Day in any way and won't hurt anyone) but I'm quite surprised that people are surprised. Green Day were appearing on cheesy "meet the fan" reality TV shows on MTV as far back as in Warning times, have performed on American Idol, and have appeared on every mainstream TV show going from 1994 onwards. Been there done that! Spending a few spare hours giving singing tips to budding singers on a televised singing contest doesn't go against anything they've said or done before, and I fail to see anything morally objectionable about it.

Since I haven't heard of this show until now, I don't see the reason why should I be unhappy about it.

Um, Christina Aguilera? So what, I thinks it's gonna be fun. Looking forward to this.

Who is the other coach he is referring to? the drummer?...

I'm glad he chose Cristina, she is one of the best singers out there, It would be so exciting to see them doing a duet or something like that!

Adam Levine.

And hah, it would be very interesting to see them do a duet!

I really don't understand why people are so upset - some girl went a bit crazy bitching about 'selling out' on FB and has over 400 comments on her post. Eh, we knew it was coming, but still...

Green Day has always done what they wanted to do, not what the fans, the media, their peers, or anyone else thinks they should do. Why do so many people go apeshit if the band does something that doesn't fit his/her definition of 'punk?' Like I said before, I like that they are doing different things, going in different directions. If you stayed in one place your whole life, hung out with the same people, and did the same exact things, wouldn't life be so very boring?

By September, Billie will be done filming for the Voice. He's only going to be in 4 or 5 episodes (and he just filmed the first one on Wednesday). Also, his involvement isn't all that time-consuming - just an hour or so with each singer each week. Nothing more. Once the show starts airing in September though, he'll have finished his part in it.

Plenty of time left for Green Day's own PR for Uno :)

Yeah, I feel the same way, that's one of the reasons I love them so much, they are unpredictable which is always exciting!

I think any Green Day fan who thinks this is "beneath them" or "selling out" has no clue what Green Day is all about.

Excited to see what Billie says to the singers. Think it will be so much fun to watch.

To be honest, I'm not very interested in seeing any of my favorite artists in a reality show. But I guess I'll watch it if someone uploads it on youtube or something...

Just whaaaaa--- :shok:

I don't know what to think about this :P Never seen this show (yet) though I have no idea if it's aired here. Probably a singing contest just like any other BUT NOOOO now that Billie will be in it! so I guess it's gonna be 'fun'... Idk

(When I saw this on GD.com first thing I thought was "Omg he's gonna be judge!!!" :runaround: but then I read the whole thing... Anyway, mentor sounds a better thing than judge, he'll help the singers!)

Saying it's beneath him or that they're selling out is stupid, but I don't think anyone here actually said that. :P There's a difference between simply not being a fan of the idea and accusing them of selling out/not being punk etc. Which is what I was trying to say but I probably phrased it badly.

If people are saying that elsewhere on the internet, then they're the usual assholes that are probably busy giving Noel Gallagher a blow job and we can continue to ignore them.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out, I have no idea what to expect really!

I understand both sides of the coin...but I personally don't like the idea of him being a judge on the voice. It just seems too contrary to the spirit of a punk rock band to involved with such a corporate cookie-cutter show. It sounds silly, but it's too "establishment" for me

But that's just my view

He's not gonna be a judge, he's just gonna be a "mentor" giving some of the contestants some singing advice for a couple of shows. Not so bad?

Can someone explain why they think Billie Joe is above this or how this in anyway is belittling?

Basically, some people have over-identified and projected their own views and opinions onto Billie Joe, and now that he's defying that vision of who he is, they're shocked and upset :P

I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday morning, and of course BIG news happens while I'm in a medicated fog.

anyways, this might be pretty interesting. When a friend told me, I thought they meant he was going to be a judge and I was super excited. Being a mentor will also be cool, but I kind of wanted to hear more from him on the show.

That sentence is just perfect, because it simply is true and it rhymes

Aside from the general truth that reality shows are the devil and their existence is a crime against grey matter everywhere, I'm really excited to watch Billie being his special mix of awkward and subversive. As somebody already pointed out, he's done questionable things like these before with all those "meet the band" shows in the 90s.

And it's not like he's a judge. He won't have to pander to the audience and the execs. He won't have to turn contestants away on shoddy reasoning or force chemistry with other judges. He'll just say some useful things to some kids who want a shot at the business

At best, it's going to be hilarious. His bored/baffled face during most of the interview with Christina signals great things (and gifs) to come.

I liked that article that said it was a great opportunity for him to be subversive on national TV, but I have a feeling his appearance will be pretty boring in that regard. He'll be awkward and cute and funny, and perhaps even a little bit helpful and inspiring, but I doubt he'll do anything headline-worthy  We'll probably just get a little bleeping as he tells contestants to "fucking" do things.
