basKT_case90
Ever listened to the song "The Magnificent Seven" by The Clash? Awesome punk band > experimenting with rap > sounds pretty damn funky! Hope this helps ease peoples fears about the whole rap thing. If the Clash can do it well, so can Green Day, and even better! Also the preview of "Kill the DJ" sounds like this song. Cris.
Uh. Okay, I'm a bit nervous about the rap thing, as most people are. I do not think the song that features the girl rapping will resemble much the "rap" parts in JoS or Holiday, because the journalist did say that the song doesn't sound like the stuff Green Day has previously made, and those two are of their most emblematic songs, so I believe a journalist in a TV channel dedicated to music would have heard at least those two songs and would beable to tell if that was the kind of thing going on in this song from ¡Dos! However, as it's been pointed out in this thread already, some other bands that we all like and appreciate have included in their songs plain ol' rap, or fast paced rhythems that could be considered rap, and have pulled it off very nicely. I think a lot of the problem we have with rap music is the absolutelly hallow content of the lyrics. But I think a rap-ish song, with a smartly written lyric, could be enjoyable. And, at any rate. The guy on the interview just mentioned this one song that will sound like rap, not an entire album! So even if you don't like ONE song in a Green Day album, it is not the end of the world. And I'm guessing this song will be a rockpunk kind of thing with a few rap verses done by the girl. Botton line: relax people.
Zelda
I'm sure Billie would be able to rap, he's already got the saggy pants part down.
JDookie
This interview sounds sooo interesting! I'm looking forward to hear it! Every tips they give us makes me crave more their trilogy.. Omg that rap thing! Can't wait to hear it! I don't like rap music at all so I want to hear how it sounds. However, I think that "rap" is an exaggerated definition and I'll think that till I hear the song and hear a real rap song. Right now, I can't believe is real rap. A "You Know" rap. Imagine all the things they can do with that It would be epic.
Bastard of 1967
Botton line: relax people. Exactly. Does anyone *really* think Rob Cavallo would allow one of his best acts (not to mention one of Warner's biggest cash cows) put anything remotely close to career-killing crap on any of the albums? Whatever this track turns out to be, and whether we ultimately "like" it or not, we need to have some faith that out of 70-plus songs considered for inclusion it earned its place and will at least be worth listening to. alienlifeform
The Crusher from the Ramones is a rap-ish song..lets cheer that this one made by green day be something like that
Bastard of 1967
Ever listened to the song "The Magnificent Seven" by The Clash? This also evokes some of David Byrne's vocals on a lot of Talking Heads work, and what about Fred Schneider from the B-52's on "Love Shack"? Green Day has already experimented with spoken vocal expression in Platypus and Take Back, and most recently in Christian's Inferno. The point I'm trying to make is: there's a big gulf between spoken vocals and hardcore urban rap. We'll have to wait for the albums to drop before we know where on that spectrum Green Day decided to shoot for.
Heather.
I really don't expect the rap thing to be as bad as we all fear, but the way I see it: even if this turns out to be your biggest nightmare, you just treat it as that one Green Day song you always hate on every album. And if you're the type of person who says "I love every Green Day song, even Take Back and Christian's Inferno and Last Ride In!," then my advice to you, in the event that you *hate* this rap song, is to treat it as a Dominated Love Slave or All By Myself---mock rock. And that, you can turn up to 11.
Heather.
I translated her tweets: 1. Wow! Thats Loud is Green Day a la Mrs. Robinson, track 12 on Dos! 2. With Nightlife they are experimenting with hip hop, Track 11 on Dos 3. Now I'm listening to Lazy Bones, very 60s punk 4. Now on Dos --- they made reference to The Beatles in Fuck Time (ME, MERCURY: ... WHAT? ) 5. Loss of Control has all the necessary energy and is super catchy! 6. Listening to X-Kid on Tre, they're describing what it's like to feel like you're still a kid wanting to start over again 7. They're discussing plans for Central and South America! 8. There are 13 songs on Dos! ---- I have to say, I would never have guessed a song called "Wow! That's Loud" would sound anything at all like Mrs. Robinson... but I'm not complaining. Anyone care to venture what the hell the Beatles reference in Fuck Time could be?

Alan86
Wow that's loud is track 12 on iDOS! ?? I tought Rolling Stone said that Amy was the final track on that album. So maybe there are more than 12 tracks on iDOS!

Heather.
I'm listening to Mrs. Robinson right now and I can definitely picture that vibe fitting on Dos. Of course, Simon & Garfunkel are in my top 5 favorite artists ever, so... I'm biased.

Heather.
Maybe. Or maybe they did a little re-ordering of the track list. But I'd prefer the first theory to be the right one. Except Amy would be so out of place in the middle of a party album.... it serves as a transition to Tre, methinks. Maybe they just outright moved it to Tre, or it's track 13... which could mean there are only 11 songs on Tre, if they stick to the 36 they claimed in RS.
