Green Day interview in Latin America

I don't understand caring about Oh Love being a bad choice for a first single if you don't care about sales or popularity. The whole point of caring about a single is to see if it does well so as to see if it promotes the album well enough moving forward. I know you're impatient for a song that you think you will love, but that doesn't mean it's a poor choice of a single.

Also, Oh Love is obviously nothing at all like LNOE. Did you listen to the trailer? If you did, then I'm not sure where you're getting the ballady romantic mood of the song. It's clearly not like that.

Geez...why does everyone need to jump on anyone who says anything remotely negative towards the single/artwork etc. Firstly i dont care remotely about chart positions. I loved them before American Idiot. Then they got massive again with it and it didnt change the fact that Insomniac is probably my favourite album until 21st C Breakdown which is perfection. To me music is all that matters they arent a pop band so who cares where they chart. They will always do ok and after that it doesnt matter. I will always buy their music regardless.

I however do not like that song from what iv heard period. And of course iv heard the trailer and i heard it at Austin months ago...its on my mp3 player and im sure its changed a bit but its still a ballady love song. Maybe lnoe isnt the same tempo (its obvioudly not) but its the same emotion and basically its a love song with a lot of guitar...bon jovi would be proud...im sorry but it is ONE gd song i just dont freaking like and yknow what i do think they are human and are capable of making mistskes with single releases...if anyone thinks lotag was a great/best choice well fuck me! And i care because its what we get to hear repeatedly on radio/tv and it usually would give a flavour of what to expect of the album and if that was/is the case then that scares me to thinking its boring.

Ps. The oh love thing was a side comment on the rap thing ...we arent prob supposed to comment much on this in here.

This is just getting so exciting ! A rap song would be cool and Green Day is exploring music in every manner in the trilogy which makes me excited more ! Eh, I hope we get to see the interview thing cos that may reveal more about the trilogy. And I'm excited for the news about the AI movie too. Its been too long since we got some info on the movie. And plus I wanna see more of Mike lately :P

I don't know if anyone has said this yet but apparently the Mystic Knights of the Cobra have more relation to Green Day then I thought. If you go on there facebook page it says this:

MKOTC have shared a stage with the likes of Green Day, Foxboro Hot Tubs,...The Frustrators,...

It also says their management is 'Schneider and Schneider'. Bill maybe?

uh huh...saw this...also one of their members is called Soda Pop and Green Day had/maybe still have a song called Soda Pop Curtis that was on a setlist from one of the secret shows...maybe a connection or my sleep deprived brain working overtime!

The while rap thing to me sounds, interesting. I'm not really gonna make too many opinions until I actually hear it and try and keep my mind open to this. I've always loved hearing Green Day explore different sounds in their music, so I guess if they can pull it off and still make the song sound good, it should be great.

Yes. Bill as in Schneider.

Very unlikely that it is a translation problem because rap is said the same in Spanish as in English, same s punk, pop, rock and... any music style I can think of.

And I feel exactly the same as you do. I think this is the first time I've actually be nervous about the content of this trilogy.

Yeah, this is the first time I'm really starting to doubt a decision they have announced they are making. I mean... rap, really?

Just to play devil's advocate here: how is Green Day exploring urban street music (if that's what it actually turns out to be) any different from them exploring country (Pulling Teeth), bluegrass (DLS), or even polka (D.U.I.)? They've covered the Stones, Dylan, The Misfits, The Clash, AC/DC, and countless others, all with one thing in common: the covers usually outshine the originals. The only musical style I don't think they could pull off is classical, and I may even be wrong about that. So given all this (and again, with the producer who knows them better than anyone else driving the whole project) , why would their fusing rap with a classic rock/punk style be a failure?

Here's some more food for thought -- a 1986 Aerosmith collab with Run D.M.C. that could very well be something like what Green Day is going to reach for here. Listen from 1:19 on -- Stephen Tyler doing rap?? Aerosmith's screaming guitars over scratching vinyl and syncopated, kick-drum-driven rhythm? Not only did they go for it, but they pulled it off real well and the song crossed over to both the rap and top 40 contemporary charts. If Green Day can manage a similar feat (which I think they did, otherwise why the fuck would they waste album space on it), it'll blow our damn minds.

The more I hear about Kill the DJ, the more my conflicted my interests become. Because it sounds like something totally different which could be even more amazing than the band already is. But then I also have fears that it'll be so different that it'll just sound hollow.

Let's wait and hear the 'rap' thing and then comment on that. Now is too early to comment. Well, it was just a journo who said rap but that doesn't mean it is full fledged RAP.

So is the American Idiot movie still a thing? Because I know there was the article a while ago about how they were actually going to start work on it, but there have been articles about that before in the past that they've never followed through on...

I honestly think the rap thing may just be a fast rhyme...

Cause I never thought the word rap and Green Day would be used in the same sentence.

I really don't wanna put a final judgement on it till I actually hear it.

Great! :D Looking forward to reading the interview, or maybe even watching if they have video of it.

So, that rap thing.. I'm sure that if there was another word for it, Green Day did it before, and you don't associate it with the crap on tv, everyone would love it. But anyway, how would you describe the "talking parts" in JOS and Holiday for example? You could say that it's kind of like a rap, a fast rhyme. But then Green Day style you know? Also, he said it's kinda like rap in a song called "Kill the DJ", well, it sounds to me that a "rap" would fit right in there, for the purpose if it being ironic.

When I read about this, I thought of the Clash/Joe Strummer (especially Sandinista!) and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There's some kind of a rap in some of their songs, but the music is awesome. I hope you get what I mean, it's not always so easy to write down my thoughts, haha. These are my 2 cents 50 cents on this. :P

Can't wait to hear these albums!

I wonder if the song will include the traditional saying-the-name-of-the-artist at the beginning. Imagine hearing a song start off with "Green Day, yeah, yeah"

"Aha, yo Billie Joe in da house!! You know, Mike, you're ready?" "Here, c'mon baby let's do this! Tre, hit that snare drum yo" "Aha, you know.."

According to the movie's imdb they already have a preliminary cast chosen. The only people who can see the list, or anything else that's been decided, have to have a Pro account on there, so I have no idea anything else. I remember they changed the release year date once, from what not too sure anymore. It was supposed to be 2013. It'll probably be delayed with the new albums and tour and stuff...wouldn't be surprised if they moved it to 2014, to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the actual album

I like your theory of it being released with the 10th year anniversary of AI ! This might actually happen !

Omg I just realized....according to John Roecker, Warner wants to release "Heart Like A Handgrenade" in 2014 for that same reason. 10th anniversary. Which makes sense...maybe re-release the album with the DVD or something, but I just realized. If they released the movie into theatres in 2014, when it comes out on DVD they could sell a special edition that comes with HLAHG. Like, release the two movies together. Hm...guess we'll just have to wait like years to find out what they plan to do...dammit lol

Sounds amazing to me! I'm curious for this "kind of rap" thing. If it's true and if so, what it sounds like. I'm actually not a fan of rap but I can't judge, I haven't heard anything! Really excited for all this. I also like that a Latin America tour is mentioned!
