Green Day interview in Latin America

Fuzz

Recommended Posts

right now all we know is that one person has described it as rap. That could just be phrased badly, it's probably just fast talking or at the most a Beastie Boys type thing.

We know from the interviews that BJ asked Tre at some point during their studio work to give him a "four-on-the-floor" beat (see http://en.wikipedia....e_floor_(music) for some samples) -- a steady-paced, slow yet pumping hip-hop rhythm -- and that whatever this evolved into made it onto one of the albums. They've got to have been talking about this "rap" track. Given that they have yet to fail at *any* musical style they've tried to tackle, I'm actually becoming more intrigued to hear this one.

Nightlife

OMG...the beat...the title....the guest vocalist.... Now think about Green Day's penchant for taking something super-serious, even depressing, crafting bitterly satirical lyrics around it and setting it to some upbeat music or driving power chord to complete the picture. If they're aiming to take a dig at street culture by turning its own signature music against it, this is not just totally punk but has all the marking of epic!

Ok guys, after this interview there are 33/37 confirmed songs! :)

Looks like we'll have to make an updated version of that speculated tracklist that's been floating around these forums! :D

I love how your enthusiasm makes me (and without a doubt many more) even more enthusiastic than I already was for the trilogy!

I made one last night.

Also, you guys need to calm down about the rap. It will be punk rap, like the rap that rancid does.

And I asked the interview lady last night on twitter if Amanda was on the albums. Can anybody ask her that in spanish? I think thats one song that everybody likes that we're not sure if its on the albums. So somebody please ask her!

Since people are still talking about the rap thing -

When I heard that one of their songs is kind of rap, the first thing I thought of was the whole "Are you ready, baby?! Are you ready for some lemonade??" from the last studio update. Haha, it would be funny if that was in the song! :P

This is all exciting, and I love how diverse it sounds like the albums will be! A "straight-up dance song"? A song with rap in it? Acoustic ballads a la Amy? Early-sounding punk? These guys are all over the place! I love it!

Nevertheless am I dressed for the occasion

It's number 32 now here's the situation

If the beat moves your feet then don't change the station

Now pack your bags cause we're leaving on a permanent vacation

Well, I'm a disaster

A microphone master

Put on your tape and rock your ghetto blaster

It's not about the money, cars, hotels, or resorts

About sweating all the bitches in the biker shorts

Even with that rap part in the start ( sorry rhymes too much there  ) fat lip is still one of the greatest punk songs ever made :)

If sum 41 can do it - Why can't green day ?

I really hate rap but Rapcore is ok ...... Just saying :bunny:

Amanda was in one of the studio update videos so of course it's on one of the albums! I don't think it was confirmed for Tre, though that's my best guess as well.

Also, I'd be really excited if Green Day was doing a hip hop song like Fatlip, except that we know the hip hop element of "Nightlife" comes from a guest female vocalist.... which makes it very different from most of our attempts to find comparable examples.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm REALLY excited about Lazy Bones.

It's supposed to be 60's punk according to one of those tweets, which is one of the main genres the Nuggets series covers (which dos is supposed to sound like), and it basically sounds like 60's garage rock but with more angst lyrics and even distorted guitars. In fact, one of these types of bands "The Sonics" have a song called "Strychnine". I bet that's where Billie Joe got his FHT nickname from!

Love the What We're All About reference :P

You know to be totally honest, I'd think it was fucking awesome if they did something like that. They could pull it off, I'm sure.

But that's hypothetical because we don't even know for sure that it's going to be a bloody rap

I was gonna point out Fat Lip but I thought I'd just get bashed by all the Sum 41 haters. That's a great example. And omg yes Zebrahead, they're an awesome band too.

That was exactly the reason why I didn't point out to this song  But yeah, it's probably one of the best examples for rap being good in a rock song.

Thanks for the updated list of confirmed songs!

I highly doubt Olivia or Minnesota Girl were being considered for this. (Minnesota Girl was first performed live in like, 2002 or something). Too Young To Die is Carpe Diem, so that's out. I'm holding out hope against hope that Dreamcatcher made it in. I have a feeling if Oh Girl is being included, it goes by a different, more interesting title (We never knew the proper title to begin with, and it's far too similar to "Oh Love" to be in the same trilogy).

My version has some songs that yours doesnt, it doesnt include Too Young To Die cause thats probably Carpe Diem, and it also excludes Minnesota Girl cause that's a Billie song, not a Green Day song, right? I hope Billie makes a solo album.

I think that 3 not confirmated songs are 8th Avenue Serenade, Ashley and Gabriella.

Edit: Lady Cobra is the first song on Dos? :o

I thouht Lady Cobra wasn't a song, but the rappist in Nightlife

Idk... Some people on the first page of the latin america thread said it was a song. I have no idea. I dont speak spanish, so I can neither confirm nor deny it.

Apparently the guy said he likes dos cause it opens with his favorite song lady cobra. So thats where I got that.

I think "State of Shock" and "little boy named train" were working titles for "loss of control" and "rusty james". Just my speculation.

And I'm hoping Lady Cobra will be as awesome as it's been made out to be. If Tre apparently has a new tattoo of a lady cobra on his arm, then he must really love the song!

I hope not. Little Boy Named Train is my favorite title so far.
