I can't believe he can't read music! That's just odd and confusing, he can't of gone this long in the music industry without not knowing right?

Oh wow, this is so exciting. Any doubts (which I didn't realise I had until now) are gone. These albums are going to be fucking amazing, I seriously can't wait. :D I don't think anything here is going to be 'average'.

Some of the best writers and instrumentalists in the world can't read music.

wow...didnt expected that :D i always thought that billie must be a pro in writing music and stuff like this and i always blame myself that i cant read music sheets/notes too, im only able to read tabs (guitar/drum)

kinda funny interesting news ^^

It's strange that Billie never learnt to read music. I mean I get that he didn't have that at first, but I'd of thought he might of picked it up by association with it....

I'm a bit late on the uptake here, but I am so fucking happy about this. I'm really shocked and overjoyed that we're getting Amy, I didn't thnk it would actually make it on to anything. I love 21st Century Breakdown, but I think that all of these albums will blow that out of the water.

Oh well, there are some great artists out there who can't read music either. Think of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, ...

*lame joke time*

Ever heard of John Lennon or Paul McCartney? Many rock musicians do not read music. This is only a shock to people who do not know how to play an instrument.

I wonder if "Brutal Love" is a re-named "Oh Love"? Oh Love is kind of a meh title, and the way it sounds is certainly epic enough to go on Tre. We'll see!

I am so pleased that Amy is included. I was also kind of hoping they would release it as a single for the anniversary of Amy Winehouse's death, which is July 23, and certainly around the time we will hopefully be getting a single... but considering it's on Dos, and probably not very representative of the party-rock vibe they're going for with the rest of the first two albums, I will accept that that's a big improbability...

Who knows though, if they spread out 3 albums worth of singles over a large amount of time, they could release Amy as a single NEXT summer.

I am also extremely happy with Amy being on Dos!

But I think releasing it as a single will take it a little bit too far. It would make the media and some people think they are making money on someone's death. If it's a tribute to Amy, it should be kept as a tribute and not a commercial release as a single. As much as I love the song.

I'm actually surprised how this was just kind of sprung on us. Publications usually hype stuff up to no extent, maybe they still will considering this is the July 5 issue. When I first saw it as a news submission on GDA I totally blew it off. I'm so used to getting crappy pointless news that we never post that my default has been "remove from my inbox, review it later." when I got back to this and read it I thought "holy fuck holy fuck. Need to get this on GDA right away!"

I'm so gonna buy this Rolling Stone, doesn't matter how long it takes to find one! :woot: That was such a great article. We got to know so many details, so many things I'm sure everyone was wondering during the last months. And 36 songs actually is a lot! I'm really happy with this news, I seriously need to handle with all this awesomeness

My favourite thing about this is that we actually have some concrete info. No more speculation as to whether Amy will make it on to an album!

The reporter's meetup for the article was at Ocean Way. I thought they were using Jingletown exclusively this time? Is that where they were just for mixing or did they actually finalize some tracks there again this time? At the very least it seems that they recorded the strings at Ocean Way, if I'm reading the article right.

Drums, bass, vocals, and two guitars...."with second guitarist Jason White" -- LONG overdue welcome, Jason, to the *foursome* that is Green Day.

I'm wondering about this, too. I also thought they were recording at Jingletown exclusively. It could only be the mixing process in L.A. but reading the article it's not what it sounds like to me.

I got the exact opposite feeling about Jason White from the article. We know he has been in the studio with them but I don't think he has been recording. Tré says that they are rehearsing all the songs for almost a year now and for that you need Jason to play the second guitar. You also need Jason in the studio for creating the final touch on a song I think. Because I don't think all the songs are 100% finished before they go into the studio but that they're changing things at the last minute. And for that they need all instruments to be played simultaneously to hear what it sounds like, hence Jason has to be there. And there's 3 albums with each member's face on it. I don't know but I don't think Jason's roll is any different than before. But I could be totally wrong, too :P

Awesome interview. I am so excited for Dos now, it seems like it will be my favorite. I'm not exactly shitting rainbows about how Tre will sound, but I know it will be great regardless and I will definitely end up loving it to bits. It's also cool that we get both party Green Day and "cleaning up the mess" Green Day. It's also really nice to have a concrete number of songs.

^ yeah thanks for that! love this bit

Do these three new albums count as one under your record contract – or three?

One. Believe me, we asked. [Laughs] There was no getting around that. That was fine. The record company have been great about it, just stoked. People get so caught up in not trying to do something new and creative: "Let's just put out an EP." We said, "Let's do the exact opposite, something dangerous and fun."
