A bit harsh. I didn't think it was THAT bad. Opinions are opinions, just because he doesn't think everything that's come out is the best thing since sex doesn't make him a bad person.

Yeah, I see what you're saying, but I think I was just annoyed at the "insult that's not really an insult" aspect of it. It was just kinda like "Oh, yeah they're totally ripping off a better band but I think it's good oh yeah I didn't mean anything!" It does get really annoying hearing that Green Day copies off of X or Y because of similarities (as I am sure everybody on this site is aware of) and trying to pass off an insult as not an insult (what it seemed like to me) really grinds my gears.

But yeah, we do all have opinions and I don't think he's a bad person, that'd be ridiculous. That post just made me think he's a bit of a douchebag.

I have to admit that I was a bit underwhelmed by Stay the Night the first time I heard it, but I just went back and listened to it again, and I actually think that it would make a great first single. As with a lot of you, I'm also hoping that Stray Heart will make it onto one of the albums. Also hoping we will get to hear that 'Oh Girl' song that they played at one of the soundtracks. And I am still blown away by the fact that Drama Queen is probably going to be on one of the albums. I never thought we would ever get to hear a studio version of that one, much less on these albums.

When I paused the preview video for iUNO! at 11 sec, I noticed it showed that"Kill the DJ" was in the key of Minor, and the only one in A Minor, from the list shown. So when I listened to preview again, it WAS in the key of A Minor! And this seemed like a song that would be anti-DJ. Thus, I came to the conclusion that the song preview is "Kill the DJ".

I've never heard that line before. But reading it here for the first time, makes me think it means she's old enough to menstruate?

Bingo! Just sounds....euuuurrgh. One of the worst lines I've ever heard once you can't get that connotation out of your head.

People get agitated about the strangest things...most bands rip others off, some more intentional than others. Gaslight Anthem, one of my favourite bands, are among the most consistent for doing it. When it's done sincerely, and in homage as Gaslight do with their Springsteen influences and Green Day do with their Clash influences, there's nothing wrong with it. Sometimes it's just coincidence. I don't think they were ripping off All The Young Dudes when they wrote 21 Guns, they just sound unintentionally similar. Likewise with Wonderwall/Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. Only so many notes etc. Again, I have no problem with this (as I said originally). Why you've taken it so personally as to start slinging insults, I've absolutely no idea, maybe you shouldn't follow blindly quite so much.

EDIT: Was going to add a point about how when you like a certain type of music you become pre-disposed to playing it and thus writing your own stuff in a similar style. Unless you're Radiohead generally your records have bits that sound like other people's records.

Yes. As soon as I saw that yesterday, I knew it was Kill the DJ (hence why Andres put it in the GDA post - I told him ;) )

Wonderwall and Boulevard of Broken Dreams? Really? I would have never figured that. I mean that mashup was cool, but I don't find them similar.

But yeah, everyone feeds off of each other for inspiration. Nothing wrong with that. It's pretty much fact that there is nothing "original" anymore. Everything has been invented already (as far as art and music goes) Now it's just reinventing something that already exists, or rather, bringing it back.

Exactly, the two of them have the same chord progression yet one is dark and one is, for lack of a better word, brighter. Neither is the first to use that chord progression and neither is the last. I don't know someone could take that as an insult against the band (as though that's somehow wrong, people get awfully over-protective on fan forums)

I don't know if this was mentioned already, but there can't be 17 songs on ¡Uno! alone. Around the 9 second mark on the first studio update you can see the tracklists for all three albums that were blocked out in the second to last studio update (the one with the "flash"). You can't really see the actual words, but there's only about 10-12 songs on each of the tracklists.

Been saying it for weeks. No way we'll get 17 tracks on one album. 10 minimum, 14 max.

why not?

unless it is the usual 13 songs with 4 b-sides?

I'm not doubting the boys and how much material they have, but from a marketing perspective, it's not logical to do (for instance) 17 on Uno, 12 on Dos, and 7 on Tre. Consumers would think they're getting screwed and would not want to buy Tre as much. Spread all the material out as equally as possible. I think it's safe to assume they have at least 30 songs they're going to put out. So minimum 10 per album. I think 40 is quite a bit of material and is too much so around the mid-30's mark sounds good. Which means around 12 tracks per album, which is what we've seen so far on the boards in the videos.

But that's just my opinion and I think it just makes sense from a marketing standpoint on Warner's end.

oh ok. Good explanation. Yeah I haven't been paying attention to how many songs there have been in the videos. So from what you said, that would make sense.

Im seriously hoping that's true. Though I'm fairly sure that no Aussie dates have been announced yet.

I haven't heard any but please be true. The 21st is the last day of term here and it would be great to come home to having a new album. :D

i wouldn't put it past them to have 15 songs per album. they average around 40 demos for each album. they've said that they been busting their balls for these, and basically that every song they wrote was album worthy. who's to say that 45 song weren't written and recorded? i wont be disappointed if theres less, but it certainly wont shock me if they have 17 on one, 14 on another and 15 on the last

Triple M poste this article about the cover art and trailer:

http://www.triplem.c...20615-gj1u.html

The pic at the top says released in Aus September 21. Then it says later on Aussie dates are still to be confirmed. Have any Aus dates been announced yet?

Oh I hope it is on the 21st! First i read anything on release dates on this side of the world. I reckon Aus dates will be announced later in the year...

I love Stray Heart, but it just sounds so much like Town Called Malice by The Jam and I can't get that out of my head.

Yeah, I would much rather have the album on a Friday than a Tuesday, cause Tuesday is kind of an inconvienient day for me to be rushing to the shops  The 21st sounds like a reasonable date, because albums usually come out on Fridays here.

If it's gonna be released on a Friday I hope it's the 21st and not the 28th. I'm not waiting extra!! But the 21st seems more likely

Yeah, it can be a pain in the ass having to wait. A couple of years ago, I can remember that Taylor Swift's album (massive guilty pleasure  ) was meant to be released on a Monday, but we had to wait an extra 4 days to get the album. Haha, I was so angry when I found out. Though Blink 182's latest album came out here a couple of days early, so there is hope!

I'm going to get beat up for this, but I feel more apprehension when I think about these albums than excitement. Sure, a trilogy is cool and all, but what ever happened to quality, not quantity? I feel like they don't know how to top themselves at this point, so they're just trying to create this grandiose event, as opposed to just put out an album the old school way. Trust me, I'm crossing my fingers for three amazing albums, but I think we'll be lucky if we get more than 15 stellar tracks.

I can tell you right now that if that's your attitude going into this, you're much more likely to find things wrong with the albums and songs. Suddenly a song that might still be good, you'll consider mediocre because of this preconceived notion that some of has to suck. I can list songs on every Green Day album that I don't enjoy, and I can list the few of each album that I really enjoy. I don't think Green Day would release 3 albums worth of material if they didn't feel good about the music. Maybe this is their way of writing simple fun songs they enjoy. Maybe they have so many of those they said "fuck it, we'll just put them all out." Thankfully for us, and for Green Day, they don't release music hoping to please everyone with everything they do.

idk, I've felt pretty similar to her about a lot of this. I had basically no expectations at all for the trilogy and I'd convinced myself that I would be disappointed, but ever since the clip for Kill the DJ came out the other day I found that I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was, and now I feel a lot better about all of this. I'd rather feel like that instead of have high expectations that aren't met and end up disappointed.

But I still agree about the idea of making a grandiose event and outdoing themselves instead of just putting out a regular record. They haven't put out a record the "old school way" and without a storyline for 12 years, and I wouldn't mind them doing that again. I just don't want Green Day to jump the shark.

If it sounds good to me, I'm fine with that. I like how it feels like everything is all chill and laid back with Green Day at this point of their career. It's a good feel after 2 Rock Operas.
