Video of Green Day and Rob Cavallo in studio first day

Jingletown's basically "home base" for them. In the past, they've done the bulk of their "working shit out" work there, and then once they had all the details worked through, they've taken it to Ocean Way to lay down all the tracks in final. My guess is that if they're at Jingletown, they've still got a lot of work ahead of them before the album goes in the can.

I don't think so actually. I think this is it, this is the mastering - they've been in the studio 'working things out' for months. Billie said, "we officially started recording today"; the video said "day one". Sounds like this is the start of the actual recording process, to me. Who knows if they'll move on to Oceanway later or not.

And weren't they demoing in Europe? I remember a quote from Billie saying the demoed in a few different cities.

Technicality, but "mastering" is the stage once everything has been recorded and mixed. There's a lot of work to do before they get to that stage, but I do agree that they've probably got most of the songs written and rehearsed already.

i wont jason be in the record green day is a trio

Not anymore. I really don't understand the people who are so adamant about Green Day needing to be a trio. That setup worked fine for them when they were doing simple punk songs, but they're a little more elaborate now, and a second guitarist suits that perfectly. Jason's played with them for over 10 years, I'm glad they're finally including him in the album process.

Oh right, yeah that's basically what I meant, that they're done demoing now; my knowledge of techy stuff is minimal XD

Not really bothered who's producing it tbh, I love the albums Cavallo's produced and I love the albums he hasn't produced too so I'm not fussed. Not really bothered whether Jason plays on it either , won't make any difference to me when I'm listening to it and I love Jason so if he does then good for him. Green Day have always had other people playing piano/playing violin/Mariachi bands etc on their albums anyway so who cares.

So excited about the video and possible setlist! I agree it's just so great to see them enjoying themselves so much making music. The album's gonna be great.

I can't say I understand why people love Carpe Diem and Stay the Night so much. I mean, they're good songs, but I don't think they're great. I'm sure the studio versions will sound much better than what we've heard already, but meh, I dunno.

I was happy to see Let Yourself Go on the list, I'm excited to hear some aggression on this album. Still hoping Oh Love will make the cut, it think that's a beautiful song. I doubt Amy will be on the album, it feels like a standalone song to me, something more personal, whether or not this one turns out to be a concept record.

I agree, Carpe Diem is the "worst" of the new songs I've heard (although I still like it). It's all the one's with awesomely raunchy sounding names I'm most excited about

Memories:

What a huge difference from last time......

Notice mike's shirt in the second video (know your enemy)...

I'm going to try and notice every detail in the new video for hints.

More memories

Oh, I remember those. I loved how everyone tried to interpret loads of things into those very simple clips.

The real question: is the partial tracklist in the video deliberate or accidental? :o

I'd venture "deliberate." NOBODY loves fucking with their fans the way Green Day does. :)

I totally agree with you on this.

Even if we only have around 20 seconds of studio-footage, they seem a lot more relaxed and confident, probably due to less stress around making the "follow-up to the multi-mega-hit-record American Idiot".

That, and they've got Rob back helping them out. :) Think about it - he's now one of the biggest of Warner's big shots, and yet he's taking a sidestep to help one of his best bands in the studio again. I think you can count the number of bands he'd do that for on one hand -- and possibly even just one finger. LOVE it.

If you're right, we'll get the results sooner....so I hope you're right! :)

Disagree. But I am glad that the dream team is back together

Hermione, I agree with everything you just said!

Hopefully since Rob is pretty much in charge of Warner I hope that this time around the new album gets the promotion it deserves.

Agreed. 21st Century Breakdown had some lousy promotion efforts after the first single.

Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this or if someone already noticed this. If that is the case you can ignore my entire message.

But I noticed these 3 big boards on the background (maybe their recording schedule) with some papers, which seem to look like a setlist or something, attached to it.

To me it kind of looks like they still are trying to figure out which songs they want to decide on to put on the new album.

This was the best promotion I saw for 21stCB, but I only saw it online... would have been awesome to have seen it on TV.

The whole day I kept thinking about this. I even told all my friends about it, but they thought I was crazy. I'm just extremely excited for a new era! :woot:

In reality, they will be making decisions like that up until the very end. They've always recorded more songs than will make the final cut, and even more than will become b-sides probably.

I'm seriously hoping for more b-sides this time

Yeah same here. We only got 2 from 21stCB, and then just 3 with American Idiot. MOAR!!! Hehe

More b-sides would be nice! Although, whenever I listen to Green Day's b-sides I wonder how those songs can possibly be b-sides because they're so good! Suffocate, Shoplifter, You Lied, and Lights Out are a few that come to mind... :shifty:

I always want more songs! More album tracks, more bonus tracks, more b-sides, more new songs on random compilations....

They must have literally hundreds of unreleased songs recorded and tucked away. Bastards.

Remember that interview DJ Rossstar did with Mike where Mike said something like "One day we're gonna have to clean out the attic, and there will be a lot of happy people."
