Don't expect what you want to expect and expect what you don't want to expect. Not a brainy sentence, but it works. I mean, I always got what I didn't want to get and the reverse too. So if you want to see the guys, don't look around wherever you are !!! superstitions work sometimes Are you affraid of meeting them ? Because you're talking about forcing yourself... Shondells
The closest I've ever got is catching Billie as stage dived at a FHTs gig in London and we sang together into his microphone for a few seconds before he started working back to the stage. After the show I spoke to Jason White for a couple of minutes and he gave me one of his guitar picks :-) Nice guy despite being uber tired. Still awaiting a proper met with any of the three main guys...

Met Fan
2 hours ago, TheOG said: Does anyone have more cool stories about meeting the guys? I hope I do on this tour! I have one that I posted here back when it happened in 2008 or 2009 but I can't find the post anymore. Luckily I kept the post in a notepad along with the pictures from that day, however my English writing skills back then were far worse than they are now so.. heads up on that heh I bolded up the parts I remember so vividly and were frankly the highlights of the night, it could also serve as a short version for the tl:dr crowd. Quote I SAW FOXOBORO LIVE IN AUSTIN LAST NIGHT! and that is no where the best part of it. I work back and forth between the US, UAE and Egypt so I'm always travelling and this time when I heard the Tubs are coming to Texas -my company's headquarters is in Houston- I called my boss and asked if I could go to the states this time too instead of going to my shift in Egypt and so he told me he'll think about it and I went back to Egypt thinking ‘‘he'll probably forget, damn shame’‘ then just a couple of days later he calls me up and says get your shtik ready cause you're coming over, so after lots of ‘‘yeeehaaaa’‘s and ‘‘wooohoo’‘s, I called my girlfriend and told her to check out that Emo's club and how to get tickets and such, I arrived here on the 28th of April and went straight to work so that I make sure I'll be off on May 22nd and I got off the rig on the 20th. Since Emo's website said ‘‘tickets will be at the door, door opens at 8’‘ I assumed the tickets will be sold as soon as the doors open, not before -heh what a dumbass- besides my girlfriend had to work til 4 and she's my only ride around here so we had a long drive and got to Austin around 6 30, found the club and there were flyers everywhere that said ‘‘Foxoboro Hot Tubs show sold out’‘, I was disappointed but I saw the band's bus and thought if I can see them go in that'll probably be cool, especially that we wouldn't have driven back right away, I haven't slept since the night before and I could barely see. But of course as soon as MIKE WALKED RIGHT BY ME, I got more awake than ever, I never really got that close to an international musician of whom I am a fan –I live in Egypt- so I was a bit struck, to me that guy only exists on my computer and DVD player and posters, he can't possibly be walking around in 3D around me, that's bogus! hehe, I've been a Green Day fan since 1998 so you can imagine. While other fans on the sidewalk ran to take a picture with him and to get him to sign autographs and he jumped back into the bus before I could actually absorb the moment. A few minutes later Tre came from the same way Mike came from -looks like they were getting a bite nearby- and this time I just walked towards him along with a few other fans who were still standing outside and I asked him if we could take a picture and he replied ‘‘Not right now dude, I'll be right out though, promise!’‘ and I said cool, take your time. As we waited I noticed there were some people on the street selling tickets, tickets they bought for 20$ now selling it for 150$, but I didn’t have that much money on me besides the concept of buying tickets just to sell it later for a bigger price just makes me too sick and furious at those pigs to be the subject of their profit, I was upset I wasn’t gonna see the band play but I told myself it’s just as good to take a couple of pictures and talk to the guys which I wouldn’t have thought possible at all. The bus door opened again and Tre came out heading right towards me going ‘‘what’s up!’‘ with a big smile, I shook his hands and told him it was great to see him then asked him if I could take a picture with him, I kinda rushed it cause I didn’t want to keep the other fans waiting and they looked eager and had a lot of stuff to autograph –someone had a really cool Holiday single cd cover- so I took a couple of pictures with him with then told him I came from Egypt, he said ‘‘wow thats cool man’‘ then I told him I couldn’t get tickets, he said ‘‘damn it, really? Fuckin internet man’‘, which didn’t really make sense to me but I smiled anyway, I was happy, shook his hands again before he turned to talk to the other fans and sign stuff. I took the camera back from my girlfriend and just started taking random pictures of him, then he went inside the club, I thought to myself I’ll just wait here til I do the same with Billie and Mike then leave, after a while the bus door opened again and Jason White came out, I heard a lot of ‘‘Oh that guy, the other guitarist’‘ so I realized you gotta be a geeky fan to know that guy’s name which I didn’t know I was! Jason was heading inside too so I caught up with him, said hi and took a picture with him too. A couple of fans from Houston were standing nearby and it seems they over-heard my conversation with Tre so they came up to me, introduced themselves and was like ‘‘All the way from Egypt for this?! No way man!’‘ and they weren’t able to get tickets either, we spoke a bit, Tre came back out and entered the bus again. It was around 7:30 at this point, we were waiting on the sidewalk by the bus, Tre came out of the bus again, this time all dressed up in a jacket and a different shirt and looked around until he spotted us and gave me that big smile again and gestured with his fingers as in ‘‘get over here’‘, we got up and walked to him and he said ‘‘You still wanna see the show ,right? ‘‘ and I said ‘‘Fuck yeah!’‘ and he said ‘‘Let’s go then’‘, we followed him through the main gate, the guy at the gate looked at us for tickets so Tre stopped and told him ‘‘Those are my friends’‘ and the guy said it was cool right away and pulled my right hand to stamp it and did the same with my girlfriend then asked up for I.D, I didn’t have my passport on me but she had her driving licence, I turned to Tre and said I don’t carry my passport around and laughed then the ticket guy said it was okay. Once we went through the gate I stopped Tre and held him by both shoulders and said ‘‘You rock so fuckin hard, it’s unacceptable!’‘, he laughed and we started walking, he said ‘‘You made a record, that’s the longest distance someone traveled to see us in the history of the Foxboro Hot Tubs.. which is like a week’‘, we both laughed and went through the main waiting area to the inside bar where they have the stage, the stage was very small as the entire place was, unfortunately I had to keep the camera in my pocket at this point since no cameras were allowed so I couldn’t take pictures around the place. We sat by the bar with Tre, then people started talking to him and getting him to sign stuff and such, I backed a couple steps to give the other fans space, I was still in denial about what happened in the last 15 minutes, that kinda stuff doesn’t happen to me usually. The guitarist from Foxoboro Hot Tubs joined us, that guy never played with Green Day before so I didn’t recognize him but he was dressed up all too well to be just an audience member, he talked to Tre a bit, then Tre looked at me and said ‘‘I’m so glad you guys made it in!’‘, I said ‘‘I can’t express how thankful I am man’‘, he smiled and then the guitarist said ‘‘Oh you’re the guy from Egypt, that’s awesome man, all the way! Fuckin rocks’‘, I shook his hand and thanked him, at this point I thought he was from the band that’s gonna play before the Hot Tubs, he’s a really cool person, he told me to check out his band’s myspace which is called premaddona. After a while the fans attack reduced and Tre was having his drink, my girlfriend went to see what they were selling at a small stand in the corner, I asked him if he would sign my Green Day t-shirt since that was all I had to sign and he said sure, he signed it then as he was handing me the pen I said ‘‘So when is the Heart like a Hand Grenade DVD coming out?’‘, he said ‘‘Oh we don’t know man, I am sure someday’‘ then I said ‘‘Another thing; is there gonna be anymore Network albums?’‘, he giggled saying ‘‘I have no idea yet’‘, I asked him if there’s a chance I could meet Billie and Mike too and he pretended to search his pockets going ‘‘hmmm I don’t have my Billie and Mike remote control on me’‘ and we both laughed then he said ‘‘Actually Billie was the one who told me to take you guys in here when I told him someone from Egypt is here and couldn’t get tickets’‘, I told him that was so cool and I hope he’d thank him for me. My girlfriend came back with a couple of Hot Tubs singles so I got him to sign them both and told him one of them is for my brother, he signed them saying ‘‘Anything for the Egyptian kids!’‘, I laughed and told him I’ll go wait by the stage so I can be close then shook his hands tightly and thanked him again then we went closer to the stage, he left right after we walked away. The first band took the stage around 8:45 I think, they were good but they didn’t say their name at all, the bass player was really funny. They finished around 9:50 then the Foxboro sound check people came on stage and adjusted stuff with the sound engineer, the microphones volumes and guitars, keyboards and the bass, the guy who did the sound check on the guitar and bass played Blitzreg Pop riff on both instruments for checking, everyone kept going ‘‘eiihh ooo lets go’‘, there was a nice vibe during the wait so we didn’t get bored. At around 10:15 the door next to the stage opened and everyone looked, it was security people from the club coming in and out, I used that chance and snuck past a couple of people pulling my girlfriend with me, now she was right in front of the stage and I was right behind her, then I managed to be beside her right infront of the stage, I looked back and kept watching the door too. The lights got a bit lower suddenly, that was it, Jason Freeze came in, followed by Mike, the guitarist, Jason White, Tre and then a short guy with a fuzzy coat, a cool hat and girly shades came running after them, that, my friends, was Mr. Billie Joe FREAKIN Armstrong! They took the stage, Billie was standing right in front of me and his knees was touching my shirt, he grabbed the mic and yelled ‘‘Austin Texas how the fuck are you!?’‘, ‘‘we are the Foxoboro Hot Tubs!’‘, then Stop Drop and Roll started, everyone started jumping around and my girlfriend who’s not familiar with the rock culture’s ‘‘let’s just push each other’‘ routines, she got really dizzy and tired so I told her to go sit down, the view back there wasn’t so bad either. After Stop Drop and Roll Billie said ‘‘Oh God it’s hot here in Austin Texas’‘ and I reached my hand to him and he shook it and I screamed ‘‘I’m the guy from Egypt, thanks man!’‘, he couldn’t hear me but he noticed I was talking to him, not just cheering, so he got on his knees and leaned his head towards mine, our cheeks touched going ‘‘What?’‘, I was frozen for a moment, I mean there was a guy I considered one of the most creative musicians that inspired me a lot and he was RIGHT IN MY FACE, I yelled what I said again in his ears and he turned his face to look me in the eyes and smiled then stood up saying ‘‘I want everyone to say hello to my Egyptian friend right here!’‘ then smiled again looking at the crowd in that Billie Joe manner while catching his breath while the guitarist handed me his Green Day pick, Billie gave me a quick thumbs up and yelled ‘‘All right this next song is called Mother Mary!’‘. Mother Mary was actually the only Foxboro song that I was totally familiar with its lyrics so I sang along loud; Mike started jumping around the small stage and Billie took his coat off, kept bouncing off the crowd and back, taking off his shades and putting on other shades a girl in the audience handed him, his necklaces got tangled up on my fingers -like 20 times throughout the show- and in the middle of the song he used a weird Italian mafia kinda accent saying ‘‘Come closer to me, let me feel the love, c’mon let me feel the love’‘ and that’s when I got squeezed against the stage harder but the rush was too good to feel the pain, he did the Jesus gesture he usually does in the middle of St. Jimmy as we see on concert videos. Alligator was certainly the most fun number in the show, Billie had something like a long broom stick that had a plastic alligator’s head at the end of it and he kept waving it at the crowd, the song itself is so much silly fun, I jumped up and down nonstop –seriously- like a crazy mofo all through this one, Billie leaned one of his knees on my shoulder and reached with the stick to point the alligator head at the crowd behind me, then he wanted to go back but his knee slipped off my shoulder so I pulled him back to the stage holding him by his front pocket, it was funny as hell, when he waved the alligator head in my direction again near the end of the song I put my hand inside the alligator’s mouth and acted like I was getting bitten by it, he laughed and kept shaking it like it’s eating away at my hand then the girl next to me waved her hand for him to do the same with her so he did, this song is now my favorite in the album, it has exactly the kinda fun I needed. Ruby Room followed without a break, more Billie classical insanity around. After that Billie said ‘‘This next song is by a band called The Network’‘, I held my breath for Transistors gone wild but someone in the crowd screamed ‘‘Supermodel Robots!’‘, that someone was right! Tre started the song and we were all jumping up and down from start to finish, every time Billie said ‘‘All systems down’‘ then waved the mic at us we all screamed ‘‘oooooooo’‘, like in the song. After Supermodel Robots Billie looked at Tre and said ‘‘That one is yours, no?’‘ then Blood Sex and Booze started, one of my favourite Green Day songs! I lost my voice singing to this one, it was awesome and after the last chorus Billie was right in front of me when he screamed ‘‘I’M JACK THE RIPPER!!’‘, it’s finally 100% sure that’s what he says at the end of this song, I focused to make sure since I knew it was coming! Geeky of me I know but I don’t see you reading a lot of philosophy lately either so shut up heh. Sally and Broadway followed, Billie threw lots of beer at us, dragged himself on the floor across the stage, laying right in front of us, the girl next to me ran her hands across his chest like twice heh After that they took a couple of minutes to catch their breath, then Billie mentioned his cousins were in the audience and told us to say hello, then said ‘‘There’s this road, If any of you took a really long drive to the west coast, there’s a road there called Highway 1’‘ then Tre started the song, during the song Billie sang into the mic right to my face for about 30 seconds and ran his other hand through my hair harshly so I did the same to him, that was fun, it was fun to see how that guy doesn’t screw up the lyrics no matter what insane thing he was doing or being done to him, both our hands got wet with each other’s sweat but he didn’t seem to care at all, he really lets loose at the shows. She’s a Rebel Not a Celebrity and 27th Shuffle were next, more eye and physical contact with Billie, yet still the whole thing was not registering as reality in my mind, it was too cool to be true. ‘‘Bring the lights down, lower, lower lower’‘ Billie said, the lights went dim and a red light came from somewhere then Billie said ‘‘This song is called The Dark Side of Night’‘, it was the only slow song in the show and it had this relaxing vibe to it, people stopped pushing and enjoyed this one, it was a break for everyone, it was also the only song in the entire show during which Billie didn’t jump on me or anyone else at all. The calmness continued a bit through Pedestrian then things got crazy again in Pieces of Truth, Billie’s necklaces got caught up in my fingers again for the last time during that one, at the end of Pieces of Truth Billie yelled ‘‘Don’t mess with Texas!’‘ instead of the original line then Tre tossed his drum sticks and I caught one but the girl next to me asked me for it saying she couldn’t jump to get it cause her legs hurt and that she really wants it and looked like she was gonna cry so I just handed it to her, my day went too great and I felt I’d be greedy if I didn’t share something and make someone else as happy as I was. Now comes the only bad part of my night, after Pieces of Truth Billie said ‘‘Thank you Austin!’‘ and the band waved good bye to the crowd and went running out the door, at which point I struggled my way out of the crowd quickly for a chance to say hello to Billie and Mike outside, and as I was finally away from the stage I realized I was the only one who backed away so I asked the security guy if another band was playing and he told me this band was not done yet!!! And somehow every single person of the 60 or 70 audience members who were there; KNEW THAT EXCEPT ME, and that’s why I was the only idiot who left his kick ass spot at the very front thinking the show was over and now the band was running back in! Maybe everyone knew and I didn’t; cause that was my first rock concert in America but you know what happens after a band leaves the stage in Egypt? THEY LEAVE! heh Anyway I shook off the surprise quickly and told my girlfriend I’m going back in then took a dive into the crowd again trying to get as close as possible to where I was but that wasn’t really possible, the band started playing Red Tide right away and I couldn’t get to where I was but still I could see the band clearly cause the place was really small as I mentioned before, for the first time it was my only chance to take some pictures so I took the camera out of my pocket and snapped a few pictures which all came out shaky and blurry, took a short video before I felt a security guy knocking on my back going ‘‘No, no, no’‘ so I quickly put it back in my pocket. During the last song Billie invited a couple of people up on the stage and that got me closer, then everyone who could just started climbing up to the stage and dancing, that got me right against the stage again enjoying those last few amazing moments then I heard Billie –I couldn’t see him from all the people who were on stage at this point- saying ‘‘You were great Austin! Thank a lot for coming out, good night everybody!’‘ before the band ran out again, I caught up with Mike on his way out and shook his hands, told him that was great and he said ‘‘Thanks a lot for coming!’‘, that was the only time I got so close to Mike and he was really nice. I was sweating bullets, my girlfriend kept drying me like a nurse with a surgeon, we went outside where I saw the bus was still there and some fans where still hanging out hoping to get an autograph or a picture, I met the new guitarist again outside –wish I asked him his name!- and we spoke a bit, he’s a really nice guy, then I met the Houston guys again and they were all ‘‘So Tre let you in for free man! That is so fuckin awesome, we paid a lot for tickets from the guy on the sidewalk’‘, I felt really lucky and thankful. At this point my girlfriend was so tired and hungry she just sat on the floor but luckily was very understanding of why I couldn’t leave yet, she knew I was a long time fan, anyway Jason Freeze came out of the bus talking on his cell phone and kept walking around while doing so, then Tre came off the bus and went back into the building but from the management door for a few minutes then came out holding a weird goat-head white plastic thing screaming ‘‘I’m the goat master! I’m the goat master’‘ then ran into the bus and screamed that again at the people in there before he closed the door. Someone came off the bus and headed to the hot dog stand then Tre came out and screamed at him ‘‘Two for me! Get me two’‘ then went back in, all the fans on the side walk laughed then Jason freeze was heading back to the bus when I went up to him and said hello, told him the show kicked ass and asked for his autograph on the Foxboro record and took a picture with him, the guy who left the bus a bit ago -apparently went back in while I was talking to Freeze- opened the bus door and said ‘‘Freezy! Let’s go’‘, Jason said good bye and jumped on the bus which then started to move away. It was an amazing night, I saw the reverend singing 14 Foxboro songs, I saw Fink singing a Network song and I saw Billie Joe singing a Green Day song, moreover I learned how nice and kind those guys are in real, Tre –much to my surprise- does not break character, this weird funny almost cartoonish guy we see in the videos and live shows is really him, I didn’t know he keeps that up off camera too! Billie Joe’s stage presence.. what can I say, I’ve seen it on video a lot and knew it was gigantic but standing there right in front of him, carrying him, getting silly with him in this really close experience had a different taste to it, that guy is talented, he does what he does perfectly because he enjoys it, he’s a rare kind of performer that just won’t let you get bored a second during his show, combine that with his already proven lyrical ability to express himself and musical creativity to find yourself with truly one of the most honest professional entertainers of our time and those are really not many. Met Fan
Thanks lizziebix Yeah I'm ancient, I think the only people who're still around from when I first joined the forums back '04 are Andres and Amanda. Also I had thousands of posts before the forums complete overhaul happened, since then I've been reduced to hundreds hehe, but strangely some private messages from back in the day survived the overhaul, pretty interesting cause I have messages that says "10 years ago you said:" lol
PaleStardust
The closest I got is when Billie held my hand at the secret show in London (Shepherd's Bush Empire) and also when I waited outside Warner UK in London but they didn't wait, they drove off. I was so happy he held my hand it was amazing :')
