Stop Drop And Roll

TUBBIES! :woot:

I had never really considered this track being about sex in particular until I read the OP, at which point the "duhhhhh" light-bulb went on. My mind is too pure.

This is one of my favorite tracks by what is likely the most danceable, divey, and overall fun band of the past decade. Whenever I put this song on, I just want to forget everything that's bothering me and freak out. Everything about it - that super bendy solo, the Reverend's vocals, and the perfectly carefree lyrics - make it a perfect embodiment of the Foxies.

And it had been far too long since I'd watched the video. I go crazy every time I see Jason on the amp!

This song took a while to grow on me. Then when Foxboro Hot Tubs played it 7 times in one show in London, i really began to dig it!

Edit: 6 times Hermione? I thought that might be the case. I like the number 7 though, so i'm gonna argue they played it that many times :P

Hmm I counted 4 in a row in the middle at the time (plus the one at the beginning and one at the end), I was so amazed with them playing it more than once I kept count . And all the setlists I've seen say the same so I'm sticking with 6 :P. So true though, I always loved all the Foxboro songs but it was never one of my absolute favourites until after that show, funny that! I think it only took until the first chorus of Stop Drop And Roll for the Rev to crowdsurf the first time, so whenever it gets to "Out of control doesn't give a shit wow!" I remember that fantastic moment when he flung himself off the stage only a few moments into the show.

The first time I heard this song, I was in class not really paying attention to the guy on the radio, who was going on about some new band until he said "the lead singer suspiciously sounds like Billie Joe Armstrong.". The intro to this song immediately caught my attention and I was in love! It makes me happy and dancey. I could listen to it on repeat all day and not get sick of it. I ended up calling the station just to get the band's name.

I requested this at my friend's wedding and ended up making her a copy of the cd. She loves them so much that she's insisted we go see them whenever they're around. And she absolutely hates Green Day. She'll never know a thing...

Now where's that Chihuahua?

A great song indeed, I just love everything to do with the Foxboro Hottubs and this is among my favourites. That being said I wish they would do a few more shows in the bay seeing its been a few years already since they played here and well would be nice for some of us that missed them the first time around to finally see them

Not only that, it was €3!

I got the shop's only 2 copies for $4. Gave one to my Uncle and kept one for me.

And now I think my Dad likes the album almost more than I do.

He'll put it on in the car and sing along with it. But it's weird to see him seeing along to this. And Red Tide.

Stop Drop and Roll is like Elvis wandered out of Graceland some moonlit nite and got it on with a banshee.

THAT is going in my sig block in a minute. And thanks for the mental imagery that's never going to go away now.

And oh, by the way, awesome post. Interpretation-wise I have very little to add!

The whole song has an air of unchecked, wild freedom -- liberation, maybe even anarchy? -- about it. When Green Day is Green Day, you expect to be watching a well-oiled, precision machine, a controlled explosion. When the Foxies take the stage, it's no-holds-barred. It's ANFO instead of thermite. It's what that precision machine does in the back room while nobody's looking, when the belts shred, the springs fall out, the wheels fall off, and the steam comes shooting out of the gaskets. SD&R embodies this -- the 60s/70s guitar vibe built on 1950s bubblegum pop song structure, with a modern punk rhythm and some really, really raunchy lyrics thrown in to keep it interesting: The perfect backdrop for throwing back a Pabst or six and letting yourself go fucking crazy.

Edit:

For those of you who aren't Mythbusters fans, explosives enthusiasts, or both -- a little context.

This is how thermite behaves:

This, on the other hand, is ANFO:

That surprise Carson Daly performance was the first thing I ever saw of FBHT and I remember watching it thinking "ok this band must be big in the GD circles then---zomg. That is Green Day. Wut." Yeah it confused me quite a bit  I love the music video, have no idea why they didn't release it, I think it's so awesome as well as the Mother Mary vid. :')

The difference between Green Day and FHBT aside, this is one of the best songs the band has written and could as well have been a smash hit from a Green Day album.

Can I just say that I love every post in this thread??

And I love, love, love this song. Every time I hear it is like an injection of pure adrenaline bringing me right back to the FBHT show in London; the best night of my life, a fucking miracle from start to finish. This was the song that kicked off the two hours of craziness, and did so in the absolute best possible way... The energy level was at 110% from when that guitar intro sounded for the very first time, never letting down throughout the night, and not to mention when they later played it four times in a row (and six in total - yes, Tony, I agree with Hermione :P). I just remember standing there more awestruck, happy, exhausted and smiling wider and wider for every time they reprised the song trying to 'outdo' it. Every person onstage and in the crowd were already giving it their most the first time around, so repeating the performance over and over became this ridiculous, yet amazing way of pushing the show to the very limits - and I loved every second of it, as much as I felt like I was literally gonna fall apart after the concert had finished (or maybe just for that reason).

In one way, the repetitiveness of that one segment (along with the x 3946 'You are forgiven!'s at the end, lol!) became my very favourite part of it all, because it showed how even though they had played a full Green Day show earlier that evening, and even though the band as FBHT were running out of material, they wanted to keep playing, to keep going; and that to me was the ultimate proof of what I'd been seeing in their eyes the whole night - how much they loved, loved, LOVED playing as the Foxboro Hot Tubs, and how they didn't want that night to end anymore than we did.

---

Mother Mary has always been, and always will be, my favourite FBHT song; but after the show in London, this song has definitely become a very strong number 2 on my list, and more than any other it reminds me of that night - not just the six times it was played, but the whole spirit of that evening. For my part at least, it embodies just what I felt after my long day of traveling and the ultimate STRESS of trying to get to that show; finally being right where I wanted to be, in the front row with my favourite people just a couple of feet away, losing control and stop, drop and roll - it all meant more to me than what I can possibly explain to anyone, except perhaps those of you that were there. <3

I loved reading your whole post , especially this part. Before the show I'd fully prepared myself for them to be knackered and only play for about half an hour. So I totally agree, it really was SUCH a delight when they started repeating songs and and trying to think of more songs to play to keep it going as long as possible! Amazing to see both the band and crowd loving it so much.

I have such fond memories of when this song first appeared on Myspace and everyone was freaking out

Every so often I'll get stuck playing this song on repeat 20 times in a row. It's one of those few songs that gets my heart pumping and makes me wanna dance dance dance. This song rolls my bones and I am dying to see FHT live someday
