greendaytodeathandback
I love love love thiis song. It's one of my favourite Green Day songs ever. My friiend always sings it to me on my birthdy, I don't know why, she just does My favourite lyrics are: I've lived inside this mental cave Throw my emotions in the grave Hell, who needs them anyway? Whenever I hear it I just have to sing along, can't sit still while it's playing. Green Day played it live at the Marlay Park show, and my brother and I went mad. Billie shouted "Who wants to hear some old stuff?" -crowd yells- "The old shit is better anyway," and went into Burnut Just made this song mean so much
Rai Rai
Awesome song. I remember when I bought Dookie, rushed home and whacked it in the CD player, turned volume up as high as possible. One of my favourite moments ever.
The Snark
Burnout is the very first GD song I ever heard and I was hooked right from the start. The music is so energetic and as a pre-teen the lyrics really spoke to me (and sometimes still do). I remember writing "I declare I don't care no more" on one of my notebooks and a teacher asked if I 'needed someone to talk to'.
Bastard of 1967
I like the fact that this song it's about being apathetic... of being apathetic! "So close to drowning, but I DON'T mind"... They're not whining about this situation, but just describing it, and what a way they chose! An explosive song like this, which you must jump at even if you "threw your emotions in a grave" Funny thing is, Billie doesn't care so much that he's going to hit you over the head in that first verse with just how much he doesn't care: "I declare I don't care no more". Paradoxical, and it seems this also informs part 3 of Jesus of Suburbia ("I don't care if you don't, I don't care if you don't, I don't care if you don't care.") Methinks the boy doth protest too much! This play on words is one of the things that's delightful about Burnout in particular and Green Day in general. Burnout was never one of my favorites to begin with, but it definitely grew on me on last year's 21CB tour. It's really such a great one to rock out to live. LMC
Not one of my favorites tbh. Compared to the other tracks on Dookie, the melody isn't very interesting. I like Tré's part, but that's about it.
BreedingMassesOfShit
This song holds a special piece of nostalgia for me. The days when I used to skip school and get high with my brother and head out to the city for the day. Just remembering that I'm young and I could give a shit but to live in the moment of things. I bought Dookie the first time I actually skipped school, in a small record store. "I'm not growing up. I'm just burning out." Blasting out the car and the whole feel of the album is amazing. StuckWithRob
This song is perfect. One of Green Day's best songs lyrically with the iconic drum solo. I love the 'hu!' bits
Schlappy
oh what a glorious anthem of teenage angst. honestly aside from the singles and She Dookie has failed to resonate with me... I'm sorry! dont kill me! But Burnout... oh man! the first time i heard the song i knew that (in the words of Tre Cool) it's my jam, yo. The song just makes me want to shake my ass and mosh
Kristen M
Such a great song. People are often talking about how relatable Green Day's lyrics are and this song definitely justifies that. Who hasn't felt like screaming "I declare I don't care no more!" at some point? Or wanting to get out of their "shit town". LOVE THIS SONG! theotherjc
This is probably my favorite song off of Dookie. It is an incredibly powerful quick paced song. Its very relatable when you're in high school. Billie's lyrics pretty much describe what's going through my head as I apply to college and don't have a fucking clue as to what I want to do with my life.
