Does anyone know what Billie says about when they were asked to be on the show? "Can you come and play at our Christmas Show?" "Yeah but it's gotta be about.... cause..."???

It's already at a lion status! Just let him keep it!!

It does look pretty amazing, but wouldn't a little more fluff be nice?

Wow. Just wow. So, I found out about this show at 6:30 when I randomly decided to check Facebook. I'd originally had no intentions of going to the show. As some reviewers had said, maybe if this was fifteen years ago and Bush and Jane's Addiction were still relevant but nowadays? Not so much. But then, Green Day was announced as the headliner! I live over an hour away so, at best, I could make it there by 8, and by then, even the scalpers were starting to leave. I had one guy on the phone all the way there, trying to convince him to hold a ticket for me but he eventually got sick of me telling him I was only "five minutes away" for the fifth time.

So, I arrive with no ticket at about 7:45, begrudgingly pay the absolutely ridiculous $35 parking fee, and run all the way to the box office from the back of the parking lot. Two girls in front of me try to buy floor tickets but are told that they've been sold out for weeks. So, slightly crushed, I get up to the front, hoping for whatever they can give me. And after a couple agonizing minutes, the woman tells me there is exactly one floor seat available. Holy shit! And the best part of it is that it's actually cheaper than the side seats the girls in front of me got. So, I buy it and race inside.

The floor is absolutely jam packed but, miraculously, by the time Florence + the Machine start playing, I'm two-third of the way towards the front. By Mumford & Sons, I'm three people from the front. By Green Day, I'm against the barricade, right in front of Mike. I just stood there that entire set change, thinking how absolutely ridiculous this all was. That I'd shown up about 2 hours after the concert had already started without a ticket and had managed to have the absolute best spot in the, by then, sold-out 20,000 people stadium. Unreal.

And then Santa came out to introduce Green Day. Awesome. The first thing I noticed is that there is a new "Green Day" logo on Tre's drum set. You can see it in some of the photos from the show and it's distinctly different than the 21st Century Breakdown logo that used to be on his set. I was at the Tiki Bar show and I definitely don't remember seeing that set there. Maybe it's a sign they're far enough in the new album process that they have a new logo? It's funny but it looks a little bit like the Harry Potter logo. The second thing I notice is that Jason wasn't there. For the first time that I can remember, this was Green Day as a three-piece unit.

Anyways, they bust into Welcome to Paradise and, well, the crowd was kind of unenthusiastic. I think it's the fact that everyone else who'd managed to get floor seats had probably been there for Jane's Addiction but whatever, I was going to rock the fuck out no matter what. And I have to say, this entire show made me feel like I'd time travelled back to the 90's. It honestly felt like some lost show from their Nimrod tour. With only a handful of "Hey oh's" and none of their usual theatrics, this was the most "punk" that I'd ever seen the group. And more importantly, they just seemed happy. I don't think there was a single moment the entire show that the three of them didn't just have huge grins on their faces. This was definitely not a chore for them. They clearly love playing.

I've seen Green Day six times now, including at the DNA Lounge in 2009 and the Tiki Bar over the summer and this was easily the most bad ass I've ever seen them. With only an hour and a half to play, this was just punk song after punk song. As anyone who's seen their huge scale stadium shows knows, there's always a bit of a lull somewhere in the middle. Whether it's a song you've heard a dozen times or whatever, there's always been that moment for me that slows things down but finally, this time, there was no lull. It was an absolutely perfect blast of a set. While I would've loved to have heard Dookie in full, this was still one of the best shows I've ever been to. And this is even coming from someone who thinks American Idiot is the finest album ever created and they only played one song from that album in this set.

On a final note though, can I just say fuck the people in charge of Oracle Arena. Not Live 105. They did an amazing job getting Green Day here and keeping the energy up for the show (despite the absolutely horrendous karaoke between sets...) but the suits in charge of keeping the curfew can go fuck off and die. I say this because before Green Day played their last song, I saw Billie Joe say to Mike, "Let's play this one and then try a couple new songs." I even overheard the security guards talking and they said they saw 21 songs on Green Day's setlist. They were absolutely ready to play all night. The Live 105 DJ's were rocking out. Everyone was ready for Green Day to keep playing. And then after American Idiot, they were whisked off stage without even really getting to say goodnight. So yeah, fuck you Oracle Arena. Not only did you charge $35 for parking but you basically kicked your headliner off stage. I understand it's a festival show and they have time limits but I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed by that.

Having said that, Green Day still absolutely blew me away like it was the first time I was seeing them. I can't wait to see them again and if Tre's fancy new drum set is any indication, that might not be too long from now.

"It's gotta be about Chanukah too, because we love our Jew friends"

She covered nimrod songs as Team Perfect

Florence and a friend did a cover of the entire album Nimrod. You can find it on YouTube, song by song. It's really good! I actually prefer her cover of "The Grouch" to the original. There's just something about her voice...

I have mixed feelings on those covers. I really like some of them; others...I wish I never heard :P

@thelostjunkie...I was wondering what was going on. When Green Day went off stage, I saw the techs tuning the guitar and realigning the drum set as if they were coming back out. They looked really surprised when they turned the lights on to show it was over!

Billie Joe did say that "american Idiot" was their last song. Not realising that they were gonna do an encore. Maybe the Arena just said don't go back out and turned the lights on.

It's not the Harry Potterish logo. :D I think it was like... before getting drums on stage: "Damn, drum set without logo. need to draw one".

ahahahahahahahaha

the lady and man up the front are the best contrast

haha the girl next to the man is my daughter Laurel, and I'm next to her (my shoulder's in the pic). This was just so unbelievable--WE WERE FIRST IN LINE!! (there for Florence and Mumford, and were going to leave before Jane's lol). 11 minutes before doors we found out that Jane's was canceling and Green Day was playing--we couldn't believe it! I texted Live 105, and they texted me back and told me it was true. We got into th arena first, and were front and dead center at the barricade. Loved all the bands, and couldn't believe we were going to see Green Day too! I went to both bay area secret shows (1-2-3-4 Go! and the Mezzanine) but my daughter couldn't go to either because she isn't 21, so she was BEYOND excited!

The set-list was fucking amazing! I have lots of pics and some videos--I'll post a link a little later today.

kairi, I am sooooo happy you got to go!!!! My story is a little sad, well ok, A LOT sad. I was halfway to Oakland when I got called out for work (of all the weeks to be oncall it had to be this one) and there was an emergency situation at work that couldnt wait. So, I had to turn around... drive back to Sac and work the rest of the night. I was keeping up with the show on the forum, trying to bite back my anger and feeling sorry for myself, but such is life sometimes I guess.... :angry Im really happy for everyone else who went and for Mozzabillies videos, I had a little party watching them this morning wondering how amazing it must have felt to have been there!!

That SUCKS!!!! I'm so very sorry. I just found out about the Emily's Army 1234Go show last Friday- i was going to go, even had a feeling Billie might step in after Travis couldn't play, but had a school thing for my kid to go to. I just saw the pix and am wandering around the house, muttering and cursing, lol. It sucks to be SO CLOSE and then miss it. Next time for sure ......
