Recap from LIve105

Here’s where things got extra exciting. It’s what we at LIVE 105 have been referring to as our “Christmas miracle.” Somehow the stars aligned, all three members of the band were in the Bay Area and agreed to play Not So Silent Night with a moment’s notice. They hit the stage at the Oracle Arena to the overwhelmingly positive response of the crowd who was clearly ready to rock out. And the band was not going to deprive them of what they wanted.

Billie Joe Armstong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool plowed through hit after hit during their last-minute hour and a half set. Concert goers originally speculated that the band would play their 1994 release “Dookie” from start to finish. But what we got was way better.

Not So Silent Night concert-goers got a special treat as the band played nothing but their 90s hits from 39/Smooth, Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac and Nimrod and one track from American Idiot for good measure. Green Day had people moshing nonstop as they took us back with tracks like “2,000 Light Years Away,” “Longview,” “Hitchin’ a Ride,” “Welcome To Paradise,” and covered classics by Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Black Sabbath.

To top it off, one of Green Day’s biggest fans just happened to be in the house. We’re not talking about a 15-year-old audience member. Surprisingly, Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine is a huge Green Day fan and she proved her love last night. As the guys roared through their first track, a giddy Florence was spotted side-stage jumping along to “Welcome To Paradise.” Midway through their set, Billie Joe called out the powerhouse singer. This led to Florence rushing the stage, literally jumping on top of speakers and crawling her way onstage to greet the band. Florence and Billie Joe hugged it out onstage. “I don’t know what we’re doing but I just wanted to say hi,” said Billie. “You’re very sweet. You have a beautiful band and a beautiful voice.” Then he dedicated their next song “Burnout” to her as she ran offstage. Freakin’ awesome, right?!

Great review but I disagree with this

I like these parts from the San Jose Mercury News review:

"Live 105 booked a great lineup for this year's Not So Silent Night concert. Then the headlining act canceled -- and the bill grew even stronger."

"Green Day's set made all that came before feel irrelevant. There was a delicious sense of spontaneity to the set -- perhaps because the members woke up that morning with no plans to play the show -- and the group seemed to be having as much fun as the fans."

Another favorite memory of mine from the show is when Tre put the balloons on top of his head during the "Happy Birthday" song to him! It was the part when Billie Joe was talking about it. :)
