Green Day Across the World is being closed

I think people just want to put that name to rest, to get rid of the negative associations with it. From earlier discussions, it sounds like that name was not chosen by the general consensus/vote back when the name was selected, anyway!

I never loved the name, thought it was too much of a mouthful and not catchy enough. Like most of you, I really like "Green For A Day." :)

The only thing I don't like about "Green For A Day" is that it implies that you should be green environmentally speaking only one day out of 365 of them, but yes, it is a catchy name.

Oh, i see. we should put it up for consensus about what the name should be then. That way it's more diplomatic.

I'm pleased GDATW is being closed now - it's a real shame how it turned out but I'm looking forward to GDC/GDA taking it forward as I know it will be awesome and in principle it's a great idea for an event.

Without GDATW I'd have probably never met a few people who are now good friends of mine. But even though it's sad that it ended like this, I'm sure we'll find something else to do next year :)

I feel like I need to come back in here and justify my original post, because, as usual, people have attacked me for sharing my feelings.

1. On compassion: If you hinted that I have zero compassion for Dawn and/or other people, you're wrong. For example, if she lived in my town, and I witnessed her take a fall of any sort, I wouldn't run over and start kicking her in the kidneys. Granted, I also probably wouldn't run over and help her up, but there you go.

2. On GDC being prim and proper as a whole: I suppose things have changed in the recent past --- The forum rules being changed from 'There's assholes here who love to be assholes, deal with it', to 'Don't be a dick' are a clear sign of that --- And I guess I haven't really caught up with GDC's new mindset. I've been a member here for a million years, and when I first joined, I was bitched at, spat on, kicked in the vagoo, and then some. And this was all for extremely minor things, like saying Billie Joe was attractive, or that I wanted to wear combat boots to prom. It seems unfair that we all sweep that under the carpet and pretend GDC was never a huge cunt. Because it was. Very often.

3. On justified anger: Okay, so, I really didn't wanna pull this out, because I feel like I'm trying to pull a guilt trip myself, but my anger, just like Marian's and others, is entirely justified. ((Why this matters, I have no clue, but whatever, I'll explain.)) Dawn personally attacked me multiple times whenever I questioned her suspicious motives, until it got to the point one day where she posted multiple ALL CAPS RANTS directed at me, stating that I was a horribly cruel person, that I was a rotten little girl, that I wanted to see her in agony, that I didn't understand how hard of a life she had, because 'YOU HAVEN'T HAD A FRIEND DIE IN YOUR ARMS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLEFIED YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE LIFE DRAIN FROM THEIR EYES AND BOMBS SCREAMED OVERHEAD YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH.'

Not. Even. Exaggerating. That's basically word for word right there.

Unfortunately, I can't 'prove' that she posted this kind of shit, because Andres himself deleted her posts and my posts after we had been at it back and forth for awhile. I believe it was during this, though, that I also received --- I'm gonna admit it --- Frightening replies from two or three of GDC's older members/Dawn's best buddies. They were along the lines of, 'You'll get what's coming for you,' 'What goes around comes around,' 'Karma will get you', and so on. The one that sticks out the most, though, was something like, 'You better watch your back from now on', which I took as a direct threat.

In addition to this, my Father's mother is scarily similar to Dawn --- She constantly lies, cheats, steals, pulls guilt trips, and, above all, plays endless mind games. She's done it since before I was born and continues it even now, and it's something that angers me so deeply I can hardly put my rage into words. ((I don't exactly want to air out all my family's dirty laundry, but I do want you guys to understand my anger towards Dawn a little better.))

My grandmother's been at it since my Dad and my Mum were dating as teenagers, when she first decided she hated my Mum and began making her life miserable, and she continued throughout my childhood, causing loads of bullshit and drama and fights throughout my Dad's side, until it's gotten to the point where most extended members of the family won't even speak to us anymore.

Oh, and my grandmother refused to even fucking mention the fact my Mum died of cancer this summer. She can barely contain her fucking glee, to be honest, giving my Dad dating advice and how to move on and that he should remove his wedding band and so on. And, just like Dawn, everything she does is for personal gain, nothing more and nothing less.

So, there you have it. Detailed reasons as to why I sounded as rabid as I did in my original post. Dawn fucked me around emotionally, her friends fucked me around emotionally, and she reminds me of my bitch of a grandmother.

I'm a bit confused though. Why can't we just keep the name GDATW??? Is it some copyright thing or something? Why do we need to change the name?

Because no one in their right mind would want to continue being associated with Dawn Wilcox in any way, shape, or form. We never wanted to use the name in the first place, and keeping it would almost be like we're honouring her, which we most certainly do not want to do.

Plus, the name fucking sucks.

I think the new rules are perfect. The old rules were the misguided musings of a teenager in charge who thought it was cool to be a dick to people because it amused others. Basically, I was an idiot.

Yeah, I actually prefer the new rules, as well, but you gotta admit, it's almost a culture shock when you compare Past GDC to Current GDC. It's tough to get used to.

Haven't you been here the whole time, though? It's not like you left in 2008 and just got back, you've been posting relatively constantly since you joined. Not sure why this has been such a shock to you. I agree about the change, GDC used to be much less friendly to newcomers, and maybe it was better that way, maybe not. But it's been a pretty constant move in the current direction.

'YOU HAVEN'T HAD A FRIEND DIE IN YOUR ARMS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLEFIED YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE LIFE DRAIN FROM THEIR EYES AND BOMBS SCREAMED OVERHEAD.'

At least now we can say "neither have you."

After reading this topic again, I just want to kind of state my opinion on the whole thing. If it wasn't for GDATW, I would not have made the friends I have and I would still be a loner. GDATW brought me into the Green Day family and I love them so much. But it's really sad what Dawn did. I mean, maybe she had her reasons or whatever. I'm just disappointed that GDATW was started out almost on a lie. But I like the idea it gave all of us. It deserves to continue in some way.

Yeah, that's true --- The fact that I've been here the whole time, I mean --- But nonetheless, it's still difficult to get used to. Probably because I was 'eBullied' so much on here in the beginning. Butthurt is tough to let go of, don'tcha know.

At least now we can say "neither have you."

Hey oh.

Mallory, thanks for posting that. I think it explains your anger a lot.

I hope those misguided friends of Dawn's had the decency to PM you with apologies now that the truth is out. "Watch your back?" Seriously?

I'm very happy that GDC has become a much friendlier place, myself. I remember lurking on here years ago and being amazed at how horrible people were to one another.

Definitely know what you're saying. And sometimes I do miss the way it used to be (a little harsher on morons, at least, not the bullying). Still, everything has to evolve eventually. But thank you for explaining your feelings, I do appreciate getting your side of it :)

Hence why I've had an account since '06 but almost never posted. Glad to see things are evolving.

I just had a thought, and I like it, but thats because I thought of it... what if we coordinate the day and everything, but each area or city.. had their own name. and maybe we just have some sort of umbrella name.. like.. "A Green Day Initiative" or something.

I don't really see the point in each city or country having a name of its own, unless it's like a version of the umbrella name (à la Occupy Wall Street becoming Occupy [place name]). I'm not sure what it adds anyway. If anything, it makes it less clear that it's a worldwide initiative of Green Day fans, not just a fan meet up.

and if it was to be like your idea, I'd think Green for a Day (or GDATW, whatever) is a better name than plain "A Green Day Initiative". That's just my opinion though.

I guess it would be more of a personalization thing. under the umbrella of the whole. dependant on what each area did.

As owner of BJ guitars. com and maker of all the replicas, she asked me to donate several guitars to the charity. Of course I was happy to oblige and saw that one of them went for well over $1000. She then neeed several more to be sent to NYC that he was going to get signed at AI on broadway when Billie was performing there. I tracked the guitars online and saw when exactly they had been delivered. She siad she never got them because they moved her room because of her wheelchair so the guitars never got to her. We went back and forth for 6 months on who was going to pay for the guitars (the first one I donated, the other 3 I agreed to sell to her at cost). She always agreed to pay for the guitars, but she never did. As soon as I told her I was going to call the hotel that allegedly lost them miraculously she just happened to call the hotel that same night and talked to security where the guitars were found sitting in the back room. I actually contacted JUDGE JUDY ! because I had every single email and text that she had sent me . Within a week of telling her this the guitars were sent back to me.

She also promised me that because of the troubles I had gone through she was going to send me a whole bunch of signed stuff and rare vinyls. She was askng my and my wife's shirt size so she could send us some shirts. I knew full well that I wasn't going to get that stuff, but I told her anyway and gave her my address.

No, she did not send me any of that stuff. I was just happy to get my three guitars back and never ever deal with her again.

To see this thread is not surprising to me and actually makes me feel a little bit better that my suspicions about her were true.

That sucks that within our precious GD community there was someone who infiltrates the good people who try to help each other out.

I liked green for a day, at first.. but after thinking about it, and i believe someone else said this too... it tends to read as being green, just for a day... to me anyways. I thought, and tis just a thought, "A Green Day Initiative" is vague enough for the various events people may do, not everyone is going to clean.. some people just had parties.
