DoodleBob
Dawn called her last night, in tears, claiming to be in a mental hospital for attempted suicide. She was going on and on about this thread. First of all- how she'd be able to make a phone call to someone, let alone view this thread if she was on suicide watch is beyond me. Something's not right. (I think that's obvious, though.) How the hell did she find out about this thread? No one has been able to contact her. And the only way I see it, is that she was on GDC. Which means she's been ignoring the PM's and questions. I mean, you'd think she would have the decency to explain some of the unanswered questions on this thread. Maybe even a tiny PM to Tony explaining what happened. I don't understand how she can call someone and attempt suicide, but not respond to the voicemail/emails. I don't know Dawn personally, so I don't want to come to conclusions, but that's not right.

captain peroxide
I don't understand how she can call someone and attempt suicide, but not respond to the voicemail/emails. I doubt she has an answer. The GDATW stuff is still a bit murky, but I doubt anyone has much doubt she's told some pretty serious lies about other things. Anyone who lies to that degree rarely owns up to it when they've been found out.

I'm not saying that she didn't attempt suiside, but if she was that concerned and disturbed about a thread questioning her, trying to kill myself would not be my first response in handling the matter. Chris P FaFu
I hope anyone who lost money comes forward. I am going to try and help my friend figure out a way to get her money back for paying for dawns trip to cali. I have my own issues to deal with.. but my friend is a good person and I feel bad for her. and for the others.
whatsername
I have been following this thread and it's shocking if it's all true. This is one of those situations im glad i distance myself from the Green Day community over the years. Those two teenagers who started the idea actually contacted me through my own site to help promote it, i said i would, but then Dawn took over and I did not like how bizarrely massive it came and never ended up promoting it. sharon mitchell
My two cents .... I had 'issues' over the stuff I ordered (which I di eventually receive, to be fair) . I was at the London event last May, and I found it a very positive experience. There were fans there in Hyde Park that had never had the courage of the motivation to do something like this before - meeting face to face outside of a concert environment. The whole thing was VERY positive. I would hate for this idea to die. This band gave me a much-needed injection of confidence, and I was delighted to see the same thing happening to others. Can't we keep it going? To cut to the point. I would be willing to take over the co-ordination of another event - definitely in Europe, but with some Stateside buddies, the USA would not be a problem to manage either. I'm online a fair bit, have plenty of time and certainly have the passion to keep this thing going, and turn it not into a money-maker, but into a movement for promotion of environmental causes in the band's name. The one thing I would insist on is that the event changes its name - suggestions on a postcard, please .... Footnote for the future - In the UK, I know for a fact that becoming a charity does NOT cost money - so if the day ever did come that it was felt that we could justify selling stuff to raise cash, that would be used for buying the trees to plant, litter bags, rubber gloves for clean-ups,etc. Being registered as a charity would also mean that we would have access to grants. Katarina.
First I wanted to say thanks for making this thread, this shows again what a community GDC is, the fact that we have a place to talk about this/share our stories. I hope that all this will be sorted out soon. Some things just don't seem right. I read the original GDATW thread from pretty much the beginning, so before Dawn got involved. It became clear to me she got more and more involved, but nobody seemed to stop that. It looked like Dawn completely started the GDATW thing, which is not true. It all started with wanting to have a day on which Green Day fans would meet up and do whatever they want, listen to GD music, anything. I remember it was slightly annoying to read Dawn's posts, because of the grammar/spelling and lack of punctuation, and her posts were quite long most of the time. Sometimes it even looked to me like they were automatic posts, or at least not a response to what we were posting in the thread. It then started with thinking about a name for the event. There was a poll and everything, and then Dawn kind of decided on that GDATW name. Then the "logo contest", which was I think the first thing where "prizes" were involved. I participated, but even though she said everyone who did would get a small prize, I never got anything (don't care about that, but I wanted to point that out). Communication was difficult from the start. She'd post in the thread about things like looking for representatives, things on what we had to do on the actual event, the website (.. it's hard to know which stories are true. I mean, the thing about her paying so much money for the imo crappy looking website is one thing.) I remember Mallory posting about that, that Dawn was ripped off and whatnot. First Dawn didn't post in the thread at all, and then she'd make a big post again saying all she did was wrong, she couldn't do anything right, we all found her stupid, she'd stop getting involved with GDATW (not exactly those words, but similar). We'd respond to that again, but I guess she didn't really understand what we were saying? She either kept saying we didn't like what she was doing, or she ignored the posts completely and talked more about organization, plans to raise money etc. I won't say anymore of that since it's not helping to resolve these issues. I know the communication is weird, and too bad it's difficult to contact her to try and get the whole story. Not sure what to believe now actually. But.. I wanted to point out that that idea of the event is great! The way I see it, is that it's a nice opportunity for fans to meet up, even though it's not for a Green Day show. Knowing that those meet ups are happening all over the world is nice. So mostly it's just having fun together, talking about the band, listening to music and everything else you want. Then there's the second thing: doing something for the environment. On the event you could organize something to clean up your city or plant trees or whatever, since Green Day supports NRDC. I think it was a success, and it'd be great if it was going to be like that next year as well. Thing is, you can donate money to the NRDC yourself, and sure it's great if you just want to do that/ if you raised money in your city and you donated that money to them directly. But to me the whole charity thing isn't needed for this. As well as the ebay/amazon auction which I still don't know what to think of. Again, I really hope it becomes clear what's going on. I hope everyone who bought those auction items and didn't receive them will figure something out about getting a refund or something! (Sorry for the long post, I hope some of you understand what I was trying to say. I'm not really great at explaining things..)
**nobodylikesyou**
GDC Day. I don't believe she had cancer. Nobody ever knew what kind of cancer she had, or what stage. We just know she went from supposedly being dying to miraculously able to fly across the country to try to get into the Webster show. And last night, I got a pretty interesting phone call from a good friend of mine. Dawn called her last night, in tears, claiming to be in a mental hospital for attempted suicide. She was going on and on about this thread. First of all- how she'd be able to make a phone call to someone, let alone view this thread if she was on suicide watch is beyond me. And another thing- she told my friend she has one round of chemo left, and she's in remission... If she was as sick as she claimed to have been months ago, hell, even just last month for the Green Day show- she sure as shit wouldn't be in remission right now. It doesn't happen that fast. Also, pure speculation here- but how many cancer patients do you know? They lose weight. She clearly didn't lose any. It just looked like she chopped off her hair. Regarding the cancer and the hair: At the Tiki Bar show my friend stood behind her (and had also sat next to her back in Feb at Johns Pizza in NYC) I texted her and asked about Dawns hair at the Tiki Bar and she said it was long and she had a wig on. The exact same wig she had on in NYC when we were at the musical. (which would have been before she was diagnosed) And I said how do you know it was a wig? she said I kinda rubbed the top of her head to get her attention, so I could tell her her hair was pretty. She said Dawn looked at her gave her a dirty look and turned back around.

greendaytone
If Dawn is watching this thread, i urge you to come forward and shed some light for all for us. It's the fairest thing to do. Ok, update for you guys. I've been in touch with Kat and she is in touch with Dawn. Kat is only able to access this by her phone at the moment, so she is going to post here tomorrow with some explanations for all of us. I think this could be a big step in the right direction to getting to a positive resolution with all of this.
Mommy's Little Nightmare
Call me crazy, but I just don't see why we need a specific day for this. Sure, the actual day last year seemed to work out fantastically. Lots of people meeting up and doing things to help the environment... but I just don't see the purpose. Everyone talks about how nice it would be and how great it is to have these meet-ups and make new friends, talk about Green Day, and do something for the environment. But can't you do that otherwise? I mean, I've made plenty of friends through Green Day events and we still get together and hang out as often as we possibly can. Doesn't even have to be about Green Day. But we talk about them, and do things. We don't need a special day for it. And to do something for the environment? It just seems odd to me that that needs a special day as well. Get together with your friends and go out and do something green if you want to do it. It doesn't only have to be once a year. I feel like she's lied about so many things already that she's just going to add in more lies and create more holes in the story that don't make sense to try to cover up... everything else. Miss Negativity here, but I really don't believe her, and anything she says- I'm probably going to call bullshit on.
shmuffin
Who loaned her money to go to a show???!!! I loaned her $850 to go to the Costa Mesa show ($800 for the trip and $50 to eat). I did it because I honestly thought I was giving this fellow Green Day family member her last chance to see them. Well, since then, the shit's hit the fan, she's had yet another "last chance" trip and I didn't get reimbursed. I guess I was wrong. Do you mean a thread about her giving Billie Joe a purple heart? Not that I know of. I only heard that part of the story from others who witnessed the giving. Dawn told me via text that she gave him the ribbon part of the award. I'm really not sure what that refers to, because I've never seen one.
captain peroxide
I can't anticipate being able to believe anything other than "yes, I lied" either, but we won't know for sure until (unless) we get some kind of explanation.
greendaytone
Fallyn, i kind of see your point on having one day out of the year, but the reason to highlight one particular day is because it puts more emphasis on it, and serves the purpose of making more people aware of it. It's easy for friends to meet up any day, if they already have built these relationships through Green Day. But, many people who got involved with GDATW on May 28th did this kind of thing for the first time, and made friends and connections for the first time. I think it's worthwhile having a specific day to focus on for those reasons.

I really won't believe anything. The immense web of lies came crumbling down. She had SO MUCH to say before the holes in her story started being pointed out and filled with the truth. But then all of a sudden, she goes into hiding and doesn't have anything to say? And now she wants to come forward through someone else? Through Kat? It pisses me off. She created all these problems with GDATW, and then left Kat to clean up her mess, and now Kat has to speak for her too? No, just no. Dawn needs to come out of hiding, because I know she's seen this thread, and she needs to speak up; FOR HERSELF. And no more lies either. Seriously. With everything she lied about, how anyone can think that anything she says from here on out is true or a valid explanation is beyond me. shmuffin
That might be the only thing I would believe, not that there's any truth to it. But she's clearly has some issues for this whole thing to be what it is. Did she try to explain any of this? She messaged me about suicidal thoughts after the NYC show, and wanting to check herself into a psych ward. She since got rid of the FB account and I haven't heard from her since. I wonder, though. Saying your thinking about suicide is NEVER funny because some people really do have mental health issues. I hope she wasn't exaggerating about that!
