Issues with GDATW

The thing that bugs me the most is the whole 'Purple Heart' episode and Billie Joe being duped.

I'm really out of the loop with all this, so I didn't want to even comment here XD But I'm curious about the "Purple Heart" thing... What is this really?

EDIT: Nevermind ... I just saw it in the posts above =)

We talked about it on page 4 - 6.

It was supposed to collect money, which would then be donated to NRDC in a big batch.

See that's what I've never got. If a bunch of Green Day fans wanna raise money for the NRDC.....why not just say hey Green Day fans let's raise some money for the NRDC? Where's the need to set up another charity in the middle? By all means call yourselves GDATW, but you don't need to set up a separate charity just to donate to another charity so I don't see the reason for making a charity called GDATW. Honestly the only reason I can see for doing that (as opposed to just raising money and sending it to the NRDC) is it's a good way to try and get attention from Green Day.

i agree.. and from what i understood at the time too was... the money raised was also going to fund our whatever future projects... which well.. i did one.. only cost me like 20 bucks to clean a park.

This whole thread just makes me sad. Sad for everyone on here and everywhere else that trusted her. For Tony and Tanya because they opened their hearts and were burnt. (Neither of you should feel bad. You were doing what you thought was a good thing at the time. Rememer, hindsight is 20/20.)

Even a bit sad for Dawn. My heart wants to believe she had good intentions even if my brain is telling she was just lying to get to spend time with Billie Joe.

Sad that an amazing day of environmental clean-up may never happen again (with Green Day fans from around the world) because of the bad taste this has left. To me, that would be the saddest part in all of this.

whats even more sad???? some kids even used this on college applications... if anything further comes of this... i hope those peoples chances of school arent harmed... as alot of schools look for those who have done charity work. hell.. I even used it in a job interview.

I think we should still go out next year and help clean up the environment. We could just do it differently so something like this doesn't happen again.

Ok so I don't mean to sound horrible but, as this woman has pretty much lied about everything (well, I've come to that conclusion, personally) how can you believe the whole cancer thing?! If she had started her treatment 6months ago, I don't believe she would have been fit enough to fly to NYC to try and get into a Green Day show. Also it wouldn't be hard for her to cut her hair shorter and say that her hairs growing back. Especially as you dont see regular pictures of her. Also do you not think that these reporters wouldve been the first to put about her being in remission or something to do with her cancer in the stories they wrote up about her urinating herself on a plane?!

So don't take offence, but some of you sound like youre in denial about the whole situation. It's just an observation but maybe you guys just don't wanna believe someone could do something like this.

Especially about the whole military service, that makes me sick.

I don't believe she had cancer. Nobody ever knew what kind of cancer she had, or what stage. We just know she went from supposedly being dying to miraculously able to fly across the country to try to get into the Webster show. And last night, I got a pretty interesting phone call from a good friend of mine.

Dawn called her last night, in tears, claiming to be in a mental hospital for attempted suicide. She was going on and on about this thread. First of all- how she'd be able to make a phone call to someone, let alone view this thread if she was on suicide watch is beyond me.

And another thing- she told my friend she has one round of chemo left, and she's in remission... If she was as sick as she claimed to have been months ago, hell, even just last month for the Green Day show- she sure as shit wouldn't be in remission right now. It doesn't happen that fast. Also, pure speculation here- but how many cancer patients do you know? They lose weight. She clearly didn't lose any. It just looked like she chopped off her hair.

As I said a few pages back, that day was an incredible idea and I loved seeing photos from it. I'd love for us to organize something like it again next year on our own, not as a separate entity under another name.

I think just a GDA/GDC envirnomental clean-up day, would work very well.

That might be the only thing I would believe, not that there's any truth to it. But she's clearly has some issues for this whole thing to be what it is. Did she try to explain any of this?

There are way, way too many holes in this story. You did a good job pointing them all out.

Doing on Earth Day (April 22) always seemed like an obvious choice.

yeah... we should all brainstorm. because I did like the idea of it being separate from earth day.. and when I was planning my event.. it seemed like alot of ideas were taken because of earth day..

I was also asked to call Olin E. Teague Veteran's Medical Center in Temple, TX by someone who thought she might be there. Dawn is not a patient there, either. Just throwing that out there...

yeah, i also kind of like the idea of it being a separate day since a lot of places do help clean up on that day. maybe later or over summer when people in school have time. we should probably go ahead and save this conversation for a little bit.

Uh, yeah, an obvious choice, but not if you live in a Northern Climate... We could be shoveling snow!

The friend that Dawn called didn't have any idea what was going on. She isn't a member of GDC, and she hasn't been involved in any of the drama or speculation. So, all she knew was that something was upsetting Dawn. And I guess Dawn mentioned my name to her, as I'd confronted her a few weeks ago about the American Airlines situation.

All I could do was try to explain the fake items, and everything else. My friend just lost someone to cancer, so she hasn't actually been around. But that topic came up. All I can say is that I don't like that someone I care about got dragged into this when she needn't have been.

I honestly wouldn't expect her to ever come forward about any of this. Usually in these types of situations, they just dig themselves deeper and deeper because it's all they know how to do now. Let's face it, if they had the capacity to come forward and admit it, they would never have done it in the first place.

She's clearly very ill, just in a different way.
