According to Gig Wise, Green Day will be headlining next summer's Reading and Leeds festival along with The Foo Fighters and The Prodigy.

Is it for real this time? Or still bogus like it's been the last couple years?

Edit March 12, 2012: The official line-up has been released. No Green Day.

I fall for it every year, but i think it makes sense this year. It'll be 8 years since they last played there, it's time.

It's important to remember that this is just a rumour... but it's an awesome as fuck rumour!

Uhm, nice.

I can't go either way (probably), sooooo.

Would be great for others, I would be jealous if they played a show sort of near me and I couldn't go :P

These are my thoughts. I've said it other threads but I really hope this is true as Foos and GD are my two favourite bands and I am going to Reading again nest year for the 3rd time running.

I can only quote myself from the other thread:

I'm pretty sure the new album won't take too long anymore. A release in early summer with the first shows coming up in summer seems reliable to me :) I'm not particualry refering to the Reading/Leeds rumor here, but everything is possible :)

This line up would be mind-blowing with Foo Fighters and Green Day being one of the best live bands out there.

I'm gonna guess album in September based just on this: In 2004, the band played at Reading and Leeds about a month before American Idiot was released (festival in August, album in September). Same situation here? It's a stretch, I know

If only.... that would be awesome.

And I TOTALLY agree!

Probably the best time I could their next album imagine to come out.

I like this rumor!

Even if it turns out to be false, I'm getting a passport just in case :)

How would they know this early on? They've just made it up like they do every single year.

It might make more sense/be more likely next year than it has been other years since we know they're working on an album etc. But that doesn't make this info any less made-up or mean they know anything.

The acts are booked well in advance and the Reading organiser has already said he has booked his headliners for next year.

Don't we have this rumor every year?

Of course it would be awesome if this is going to happen for real this time.

I'm not saying the headliners haven't been booked. I'm saying I highly doubt that Gigwise knows who they are. "Exclusive source" nope I don't believe it.

I'm not saying they won't play either, they've played Reading several times before so there's a decent chance that they will. Buuut every year there's articles where they just pick some big bands who seem like likely headliners and say they're gonna play when in fact they have no info about it. Every year there's articles saying Green Day are gonna play Reading. I don't see any reason to think this article is any different.

This seems possible to me. They can have some shows before their record comes out :)

It would be really awesome, even though I think I couldnt be there :/.

So this is how many years that this rumour is going on? I think every year since I've been on Gdc this happens!

I'm trying not to believe it this time..but a tiny part of me wants to soo badly. It is possible mind you, i just wouldn't rush to conclusions since this rumor manages to circulate every year.

It would surprise me if this is true, but Green Day have done a fair few surprises recently! :) Will have to get a ticket if it turns out to be true :)

Could be true, but then I've been saying that for the past few years! Then again, I highly doubt I'd be going seeing that I'm in the middle of Ohio... but would still be awesome if it is true!

The big festivals have to announce their first headliners around November / December (depending on the dates they're taking place). It doesn't surprise me at all that these rumors are coming up now, especially after Download announcing their first headliner a few days ago.

There can always be a leak in the staff just as well it could be our well known rumors... We'll see :)

I now face a choice between Metallica at Download or Green Day at Reading. I guess it will come down to the other acts playing so atm Reading has my vote
