Billie Joe being interviewed October 21 in New York

yay. I don't have to feel like a creep.

About the interview, it was awkward watching Jason be awkward. He just sat there, giggled, and sat there. I wanted him to say something. :(

He clapped a few times too.

I agree. It would've helped if they'd given him a mic though. Maybe he had something to say but didn't want to lean over and take Billie's microphone.

I don't know.

I think a couple of people got to talk to Billie Joe briefly when he was at the front of the stage, but that's about it as far as i've heard.

Ah balls, that's the only reason i wanted to go! One day... No fangirl craziness! i just wanna buy them all a round of drinks or something!

there was just something about Billie's hair that made me want to pet it, it looked so fluffy!

Maybe is Jason the one who's a little shy and didn't want to say anything... I don't think that the guys have threatened him saying "stay still and keep your mouth shut", he was just there accompanying. Idk

I don't know whether Jason wants to say anything or not, but he wasn't given a microphone as far as I could see, but he never seems to say much of anything anyway. I am not quite sure why he goes to these TV things if he is never to speak.

I still think it's nice that Billie, Mike and Tre include Jason these days. He really is a major contributor to the band even if he's not "officially" in the band! :P

I think maybe they should make him official or dump him from the GD team. Sometimes it just looks embarrassing for him hanging around and saying nothing. I feel for him.

I don't think he minds being in the background. And i'm pretty sure he was asked by the band if he wanted to be "officially" part of the band, and he turned that down.

That was my impression also. Hermione or Aska will know the details!! :)

I'm pretty sure that I'd heard that somewhere, too.

Anyways, that was a great interview! Funny, Billie Joe and I have very similar political beliefs...

The part that was the highlight for me:

"Hey. I'm Aaron Rodgers." Oh Tre, you're too funny.

Jason has never liked the spotlight, so I really don't think he cares about what his title within the band is. He's happy playing music, they're all friends that get along well, I think that's enough for all of them to be happy.

Thanks again for all the complements!

If it was Dugan I think I may have to kick myself....

I don't know if anyone replied to you but yes it was him because I was on his right while he was recording the interview... I wonder where it will be posted...

Also, Eileen and I went by McCartneys wedding party at the Bowery Hotel and I saw him [Chris D.] walk into there

they should of had Mike Pelino there for Jason

Should have, not of.

And um, why? He hasn't played for them in years.

:D It was in Cometbus 54. He said Billie wanted him in the band but Mike and Tre nixed the idea. Of course that's just Aaron's version of events though so you've gotta take that into account. I'm not sure if he mentioned whether Jason wanted to or not, but from everything I read in there and in the Fluke interview I get the impression he's perfectly happy the way things are. He plays his part in Green Day without being an official member and it works. I really can't imagine him wanting the spotlight of being a full member of the band, and he doesn't need to be since they all seem to be happy with the set up they've already got.

I reckon in this interview the band probably just grabbed him before they went on and said hey come on with us. I doubt him not having a mic was any kind of calculated move lol.

Are there examples of other big bands that kind of have a permanent non-member member? Obviously many bands have additional 'road live crews', but Jason's kind of more than just a live addition, he's in the studio too. It seems so unique to me, but I don't claim to have much knowledge of rock history.

Good question, i can't think of another band that have that kind of set up.

Jason hasn't written for or played on any of Green Day's albums though, he's only jammed with them in the studio. He was on the Foxboro album since he's actually in that band, and he's an extremely good friend as well of course, but as far as Green Day goes he is just their live guitarist.

I know what you mean though, he seems more a part of the band than I've ever heard of any other live/touring musician being. Maybe it's just that it's rare that a band happens to be as good friends with one of their live musicians as that. Or as willing to share the spotlight with them.
