One bit I really like is when Billie goes "....so unfaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiir-hup!" and then the music does that funky little breakdown :D. Just another nice interesting little thing about this song. Probably one of the most, if not the most, interesting and "different" (in a good way!) songs on the album.

I was going to mention that "unfaaaaaiiiiiiirrrrrrrr-ya"

and yes! it really is a great little funk bassline.

There's a few live recordings out there, like the one from WFMU, where they really stretch out the song and that bassline gets punchier and punchier.

here's the recording I'm talking about:

Love that version, very funky indeed! The phrase slap a da bass big time springs to mind.

Well, this song perfectly illustrates one of the reasons why I love 1,039 SOSH so much. It's just so honest, and so relatable, for everyone. I know, personally, right now, I'm pretty damn scared of the idea of growing older (and yes, I'm a touch older than 16... 22 to be exact). I dunno, but this song really helps, knowing that in my fears I'm not alone.

I said that's the reason why I love 1,039 SOSH, but I lied.

It's why I love Green Day.

The sound may have changed, the look may have changed, they have grown up (well... Mostly) and none of that's a bad thing. In fact it's great! One thing that's never changed though, the lyrics are still that honest and still that relatable. And this song is just a perfect early example.

About the Pinole video. "This is a song about, er, taking a piece of salmon and ramming it up my ass". LOL!

Every line of the song is so true, really. Also one of my favorite from the album.

I've always loved this song. I've always loved 1,039, it's always been one of my favorite albums. This song relates to me a lot right now. I'm graduating college in May and I'm constantly thinking about how things have changed and will change in the future.

I'm surprised this hasn't made an appearance as a rarity at a show, I would love to hear it live, especially just to watch Mike go crazy on the bass!

This song means so much to me. It's my favorite off the album. If I were to ever hear it live I would for sure cry tears of joy, I really hope I'm lucky enough for that to happen one day.

That song means a lot to me at the moment, I'm going to turn 16 in 2 months and getting older is such a scary thing. I definitely wish I could go back to when I was like 10 to have the chance of living another youth :D

I think this song contains the answer to the question of being scared to grow up and get older: all these problems are in your mind! Youth is state of the soul!

Every time I look in my past

I always wish I was there

I wish my youth would forever last

Why are these times so unfair?

That line is so relate-able, anyone can point out a time in their lives where they feel that way. I love this song a lot, especially because there is no mystery to them. It's straight forward and it's simplicity is great :)

At first I didn't really like this song, or well, I didn't really like the sound. I was also 14 or 15 and being 16 seemed ages away. I didn't really "connect" to the feelings the song expresses. Then when I turned 16 it was all "ooh now I'm 16" and as time progressed, I started actually relating to those feelings. I completely understand the song by now. I'm still no giant fan of the sound, but I've warmed up to it. I don't think it will ever be one of my favourites, but it's certainly a song I think almost any teenager will recognize themselves in.
