Satan
they probably put the lyrics to amy up because they found out that it leaked, which makes me think we might also get the lyrics to last gang in town.
Hermione
Let's work on all the song's lyrics and get them all so horribly wrong that they HAVE to post the correct ones for us
pasalaska
May I have this last dance By chance if we should meet? Can you write me a lullaby? So we can sing you to sleep I don't have the words... that's just so, so sad and beautiful at the same time.
alaniluau
Your use of words is sublime as well. I love your explanations. Awwww, thanks! May I have this last dance By chance if we should meet? Can you write me a lullaby? So we can sing you to sleep I don't have the words... that's just so, so sad and beautiful at the same time. That's how I feel, too. I never had much appreciation for Amy Winehouse, but Green Day is making me consider her in a new light. "Did you tattoo a lucky charm / to keep you out of harm's way? I spy a lucky horseshoe. Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love
Damn you, Green Day, couldn't you have posted that a little earlier! (nah, I'm grateful they posted the lyrics and that message and all) Didn't expect us to be that far off on half the lyrics. I love the real lyrics, though... Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love
While I love the real lyrics, there is one thing I'd like to say. Real: 'Cause the record bin's been replaced Ours: As the record spins, memories fade/play. I like our version better when it comes to that line
raven052
Gotta admit, I didn't really get the whole 'it's about Amy Winehouse' thing, but... Yeah, looks like it probably is. Makes me kinda wish I was a fan of hers, but I honestly never was. And I can't see myself becoming one, I've listened to her music (quite a bit of it, my sister's a fan) and... Well, I never much enjoyed it. Sorry, I know there's quite a few fans of hers here. I don't mean this to sound unkind, although I'm sure I'm coming across as such. Beautiful song though, still. Even if I originally kinda thought 'Amy' was going to be another random muse of Billie's (like Gloria and the like), or possibly someone he once knew. Did you tattoo a lucky charm - Not sure why, but I'm a little in love with this lyric in particular. (Although, to be honest, I love almost all the damn lines!) Also, so pleased we've got the real lyrics now. And yes, as soon as I saw that on greenday.com my first thought was 'they've been on GDC!'
Karol Oliveira
At first, I wasn't sure that Amy was for Amy Winehouse. It was like "it could be, but also it could be just a coincidence". But seeing the official lyrics now, I'm pretty sure it's for her, especially because the verse "27 gone without a trace". By the way, the verse "Do you wanna be a friend of mine?" could be a reference to this verse of the song Rehab: "I don't ever wanna drink again, I just, ooh, I just need a friend"

It's her most famous song, so it's quite possible.
whatsup?
I didn't want to write anything, but I had to cry when I read in the last four lines ...that's the truth .... In this song everything "rhymes" with Amy so much, and that's so painfully beautiful. I did it several times, I'II do it again, and I bow to Billie Joe's poetic greatness. I'm a man and I usually don't like to admit that something would make me cry, but I sure did get a bit of teary eyes when reading the lyrics to Amy. Billie Joe is by far one of the best songwriters in this world. It takes great talent to be able to write such beautiful songs. How does he keep amazing us, even after more than 20 years, I don't know.

Alan86
By the way, the verse "Do you wanna be a friend of mine?" could be a reference to this verse of the song Rehab: "I don't ever wanna drink again, I just, ooh, I just need a friend" The "i don't ever wanna drink again" bit is probally referenced too when billie says "And you walked away from your drink"
raven052
The "i don't ever wanna drink again" bit is probally referenced too when billie says "And you walked away from your drink" Could be, I thought maybe it was a reference the thing her dad said, about how the fact she stopped drinking (flat out, cold turkey) had at least partly contributed to her death. But, I don't know, that was just something I read in a newspaper left in the staff room at work, so I'm probably just horribly misinformed. brianbags
Can't we add titles to the four new ones? nobodylikesyou has said she knows what the first song is and that they're in order... Heather.
I know this is jumping to conclusions and reading too much into things, but the fact that they posted the Amy lyrics on the site made me think immediately "Oh, it'll never be released, that's why they're letting us see it now..." but on the other hand, they called it "the" new song .... I just really hope we get a clean version of it some day!

Real: 'Cause the record bin's been replaced Ours: As the record spins, memories fade/play. I like our version better when it comes to that line YES! I love that line too. When I read the real line, I thought it meant something like new pop "popular" songs are replacing "good" music nowadays (idk...). The GDC-created line feels, really deep. I like both lines lol. Kudos to whoever wrote the GDC one. ----------------- I officially sat down just now and listened to Amy while reading the lyrics at the same time, and I'm just....mindblown. The lyrics and music are beautiful, yet tinged with sadness and hope. I can't even explain how I feel right now because, well, I'm not sure if I even know exactly. Billie's words will never cease to amaze me...

Annie, get your gun
This song Amy had such an impact... I'm still speechless like the first time I heard it. They should put some kind of original version (because maybe it wasn't recorded at all yet) for free download, like they did with Mother Mary
