Trying to figure out SOMETHING from Last gang in town. I heard something about "I wanna take a ride" and something else about fuckin', and "now I have to ___"... and those are probably wrong xD

Considering we've now agreed it's about Amy Winehouse, I have a sort-of correction (more of a jumping off point for someone with better ears)

In the verse "Now you're too young for the golden age",

the "trouble" line I believe actually starts with "twenty-seven." Which would make sense. Can't make out the rest of the line though.

Hope that helps?

You have magic ears! I can't make out a word of any of them so thanks very much for the working out you're doing.

Wow, the lyrics to Amy are so sad. I mean, if it is about Amy Winehouse (which I'm certain it is), then that's sort of expected, but still, it's really quite moving

also, this is what I hear (bold):

Did you tell it to your lucky charm

Keep you outta harm's way

warding off all evil signs

Never really kept you safe

***

They are having last dance

a chance that we should take

............ I don't know ... die / another guy

....... (the same?) beauty queen? / So can we sing, beauty queen

I agree with all of this.

Some more things I noticed when listening to it with vocal booster (that really helps!)

I do think that what we had as "country life" is something with paltry, like Trina said.

"No one really knows about your home / you girl" sounds also like it could be "tone" (instead of home). I'm not sure at all about that, though.

As the record spins, memories play. I clearly hear a pl- sound, although that may be just psychological.

"a chance that we should take/blame / can't ....... faith / I don't/can't think we should blame" whatever the first part is, the last word sounds like "play" as well.

"............ I don't know ... die / another guy" sounds like it starts with "Can you help me oh" and then I hear "I don't wanna die", but idk.

It does sound like twenty-seven! And it makes sense as well. Thanks!

lawl I don't even know why I like doing this, I'm usually terrible at making out what Billie sings.

I can only hear the odd word in Last Gang In Town.

And that the second line of the chorus is "... the last gang in town", but that wasn't very hard to guess

I think "No one really knows about your home / you girl" kind of also sounds like "No one really knows about your soul" .

God the lyrics in this song are so great. Billie's a fucking poet. And I agree with most people that this is definitely about Amy Winehouse. Anyway I've listened to it a shitload of times and these are a few of the things that I'm hearing:

1.) No one really knows about your soul

2.) Twenty seven, I will call on change (like someone already figured out)

3.) I'm also hearing "aching" opposed to "achey" like a lot of others are too

4.) In the line "Only I'm just singing my truth" I'm not hearing the word truth at the end. I'm definitely hearing "Only I'm just singing my.." but I'm having trouble figuring out what the last word is. I think it starts with a B though..

Same here.

I'm not hearing the word truth either, but I can't figure out what he does sing =/

And it does sound like it's soul (1).

I'm editing every suggestion people make into the second post.

Alright cool. And yeah, I've been listening to that part over and over again for the last 10 minutes and I'm still having trouble figuring out that last word. Maybe it's

"Only I'm just singing my blues"?

If I focus on that part, I just hear what I want to hear/what I think I'm hearing. I can hear both the words phone and poo, while they don't sound that much alike.

Doesn't really sound like blues. But it doesn't really sound like anything. It just sounds like something that starts with a lip-consonant and with a sound (vowel) kind of in between oh and oo.

I agree on the fact that Billie's a fucking poet.

Me too. No matter what he writes it's always so good in some way...

Also, thanks to everyone working out the lyrics! There is no way I could ever do it, I'm so bad at hearing the right lyrics

From the lyrics I think it's definitely about Amy Winehouse (I found it a little bit weird that he wrote a song about her, but then after thinking about it, there's plenty of reasons why he would), but for that reason it makes me think it will not end up in the new album.

It's an amazing song, they should totally release it somehow tho.

Damn, I almost cry reading the lyrics of this song, it's really beautiful, and it gave me a strange feeling... :ermm:

If Billie wrote it about Amy Winehouse, I'd say "maybe not, but probably yes", maybe her dead affected him in some way, so if this the result of that... it's really sweet and innocent from him  If it's not, is still very special.

I really want it in the next record...

So I know I'm really late, but where is the audio for Amy?

There's a thread in the Downloads section for audio from the show.

It'd be such a shame if it didn't make the album, although I could see why it wouldn't. It would be so dated at that point, even if they never revealed that it's about Winehouse. I wish they were coming out with new stuff now.... not that they should try to capitalize or make $$ off her death by putting out a song like that, so I feel like they wouldn't do it, but it'd be kind of nice.

Maybe if someone is putting together a tribute album to AW, they could add it. I really do hope we get to hear it recorded someway, somehow.

You guys have magical ears to be able to figure out Billie's beautiful poetic words for Amy. :D Thanks for putting that all together! I really hope we get to hear this song more often in the future.

As for Last Gang In Town, I keep hearing this in the chorus..... (and sorry if it's already been posted.)

No one loves you now

Cuz you're the last gang in town

Someone wanna double check? The rest is a blur to me at the moment lol.

I have listened to Amy about 16 times and i think the one line says "Trouble, trouble, I will/(won't) call on faith" It is extreemly hard to tell though. Those are just my thoughs. (:

It's been said many times already, but it needs repeating...Amy is such a beautiful song. And the fact that he was reading off a piece of paper since he just wrote it stands to show what a remarkable lyricist Billie is.

I'd totally give reps to all of you figuring out the lyrics, but I've already run out. So you get hugs instead.
