Green Day... with U2 ad Metallica?

I don't get it, it's just one concert, a festival, a tour? 'Cause to me, those are 3 different things... But whatever. If Billie's tweet was about that, it means that he doesn't like the idea? Well, maybe you guys should have your new idea to go on tour again

I'd like a tour, so maybe they come here :P I don't care, I can stand Metallica

It's Metallica. Nothing they ever do is awful. (except St. Anger but we won't get into that here)

Fixed

Seriously Green Day fangirls at a Metallica show, would ruin the show for me. You know the type I mean the "omg I love you Billy" type

I don't think a concert with the 3 of them would work.

imo, it's gonna be something like a festival, like Billie mentioned in the last tweet. I dunno.

I HAVE NO IDEA.

Just putting this out there, but if Green Day fans were to be at the same concert as Metallica fans I could see some major issues breaking out at the concert/festival. Maybe not, but I don't exactly see how Green Day fans could sit together and sing along holding hands with Metallica fans, let alone moshing. I asked my friend, who is a huge Metallica fan, what his opinion was on this and he said, "Look at what Metallica has sunk down to..." That pissed me off and now we're arguing about this (Imagine crowds of people arguing about this at the festival thingy xP )... but on a serious note that'd be like putting Slipknot with KISS then throw in Coldplay into the same concert festival. But our fans could handle it, I mean c'mon, our fucking slogan is "Our fans can beat up your fans" . I just have a feeling this festival could be the setting for WW3 between Green Day and Metallica because of the random arguing I've experienced with my friend who loves Metallica. Anyone else agree?

All I can say is... I've been getting more and more into Metallica over the past couple months. So the thought of Green Day and Metallica together on something... holy fucking shit. The clash of fanbases might be a bit awkward, but I still completely encourage it. And I don't really listen to U2 at all, so I can't properly judge them and therefore won't say anything about them. I don't even want to begin to imagine ticket costs though... if any of this ends up happening, that is.

I don't know if it's going to happen or not but I thing it would be very awkward =/

I thing that green day and U2 maybe would fit together but their style is really different from Metallica's style.

Well whatever happens I am not going to see it cause I live in Greece so I'd like this to happen just to see new Green Day live footage from videos in youtube ;)

I thought Green Day was much more interesting band when they didn't "like" the rockstars and the Hollywood typical people....which means no Metallica and U2. East Bay punx, I would rather see Green Day take Emily's Army and a bunch of other punk bands from the East Bay on tour. That would be awesome. Green Day, Rancid, Nofx, Bad Religion, that would be EPIC!!!!!!!!!!

500 dollar nosebleeds to hear bono's annoying douchey tax-avoiding voice!

you aint kiddin' son. i saw U2 at UVA last year. hella expensive tickets to watch bono lackadaisically saunter around the stage without any enthusiasm. sound was surprisingly good for a stadium but it was not worth all that $$$$$$$$$$$.

every Metallica song I've heard has been ten minutes of sweep picking with plenty of overdrive

Whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut  Not even close.

Exactly this! It's what I've experienced with Metallica fans anyway. They complain about Green Day songs sounding the same when basically every Metallica song I've heard has been ten minutes of sweep picking with plenty of overdrive. It's like, as soon as I talk about my favourite band to the Metallica fans I know, I get the piss taken out of me for no reason. They're always so quick to be aggressive towards other fans.

Hell ya! I think they're out to get us because Green Day is better than them, musically and when performing live, and they know it! Their super long solos make up for their lack of creativity yknow? I picture most Metallica fans (except for my friend of course, but the way he acts he should be one these..) as an old 55 year old biker guy that's been divorced about 23 times. I mean I may be stereotyping here, but a lot of metalheads are or can be super arrogant assholes about their music. I've never met a sane metalhead that couldn't mock Green Day or any band outside of metal yknow?

Pretty sure that is what he meant. Just a bit of banter though! I'm sure U2 and Metallica would have a good enough sense of humour to realize that. But who said anything about them being the best musicians? Being the best musicians and being the best live band aren't the same thing. It's about who puts on the most entertaining show not who's the most technically accomplished.

Damn it, I never thought of that, that he could be just joking around

Well, nobody said anything, but.. Being able to play instruments well is a key part of playing concerts... You can't exactly play a good show if you suck at playing guitar, drums etc. (And I'm not saying Green Day suck at playing their instruments, far from it :) ) Just I feel that there are bands out there who are more talented in some aspects..

Meh, nobody agrees with me anyway so I will be quiet now

Oh I agree playing instruments well is a big part of it, it's just not the only part. Different bands are good on stage in different ways, it's not like Green Day would even want to out-guitar-solo Metallica. There's that old quote from Billie "They don't need to hear a 15 minute cocaine wank guitar fest and we don't give it to them". And Metallica wouldn't want to try to out-do many of the things Green Day does. They're good at different things but it's the overall that matters. I think Green Day's best overall. But of course that comes down to personal preference :P

To be honest those three bands are just too big to play in the same day/festival. And the ticket prices, as you guys have been saying would be just too high for most of us.

IF this is something like an event where the three bands were playing simultaneously (one concert), I think it could be really interesting, because they are so different from each other! (I don't even like Metallica or U2, can't listen to their albums fully because to me it sounds all the same, but I liked the U2/Green Day collaboration for Saint's Are Coming)

I want this to happen, so I can go with my friend who is just as much of a U2 fan as I am a GD fan, that would be epic.

Three of the awesomest bands in one festival.... hold on while I jizz myself.

While you guys are battling it out at the festival I'ma fucking rock out! I fucking love Metallica, they are awesome and I don't mind having the whole floor to myself. I'll pit and just go buck wild!

I was at the U2 concert in Oakland when Bono started talking about this...You can probably hear me screaming louder on the audio than anyone in the 65000 stadium, lol. this isn't my youtube video, but here is a good link to the actual conversation...

My good friend Melissa made this awesome comment...." The Edge, James Hetfield, and Billie Joe Armstrong walk into a bar... Sounds like the start of an awesome joke, or the greatest night out on the town the Bay Area has ever known. So much of me hopes that story was true."

Cool vid. He seems to talk about a festival thingy? I can't hear well.

Oh but, I forgot: I fucking hate Bono and company. Not sure i'd pay like 2000$ to see them. not a big fan of Metallica as well. erm. doesn't sound good to me.

Just because they have long ass solos, doesn't mean they 'lack creativity'. Most metal bands have long songs. And if they do 'lack creativity', why are they considered to be one of the best and most influential metal bands of all time? ;)

And you're contradicting yourself there...you're talking about how metalheads are arrogant and don't appreciate Green Day, yet you're bashing Metallica and talking arrogantly about Green Day. =/

Hmmm....that quoting thing didn't really work out quite the way i planned it.

Anyway, I wanted to say that i agreed with both this post, and the one it was responding to (in regards to what Billie's tweet meant; it was my thoughts exactly!), and yes...as this post says, I am sure it was said playfully and wasn't meant to piss anyone off. And everything else you said about musicianship vs live performance is spot on.

Funnily enough, my father took my sisters and I with him to see Metallica back in 2004. Most of the people at the show were middle-aged adults like him, who thought it was just so sweet that he had brought his kids along and were likewise envious that their own children weren't into that sort of music. Granted, we weren't in the pit--he never would've let us in GA back then--so maybe that's part of why I didn't see any other young people. In any event, it was a fine show, but not particularly exciting or memorable, aside from the dueling drums. Our dad had asked us afterwards what we had thought of the show, now that we had finally seen a "real" band play. I remember telling him that "It was good, but I don't feel like I've just seen Metallica."

Exactly one week later, we went back to the exact same arena to see Green Day for the first time. Our seats were worse than they had been for Metallica, partly because they had used a center stage, whereas Green Day was using an end stage, and we were now on the complete opposite end from it. Total bleeders. But despite that, I had the time of my life (no pun intended). Even my dad couldn't stop talking about it. And when I went home, I decided that I needed to hunt down every piece of music they'd ever produced, so that next time (as I was determined there would be a next time), I would know all the words. ;) And thus began my obsession of 7 years and counting

Well I think your experience if proof of just how amazing they are live! No one can do it like Green Day :D

Oh I know yeah :) people were telling me not to bother seeing Kings of Leon because they suck, but I found them excellent because they sound exactly like the cd live. They might not be the best crowd interacting band, but that's their style and it suits them perfectly. Same with every other band :)

I do think Green Day are the best band for interacting with crowds, but I prefer other bands for other aspects. I should have really just said that in the first place
