Green Day, U2 and Metallica doing something? maybe? No one knows....

I have to agree that this mostly seem like the product of a long night of drinking and conversation  And I don't plan on getting too excited until we hear something concrete (if we even do). In the meantime, it is certainly amusing to fantasize about :P

LIke other people have said, a festival with all three of them would most likely be insanely expensive, but otherwise, I think it'd be absolutely brilliant! The possibilities for openers would be endless....and I think it would be absolutely priceless to see such different crowds of people all coming together at the same show (though they might be inclined to kill each other). And *because* all three bands are so different from each other, they would each have something to prove to the fans of the other bands

As for Billie's tweets, I agree with whoever said it's a challenge...in a "Be careful what you wish for" sort of way.

I really don't understand why a thread's been started and people are getting excited. All the 'proof' there is consists of a newspaper article that only said they went out of dinner and a nonsensical tweet that might not even refer to it. Do you really think U2 & Metallica would want to share their tour revenue or share the bill with another band ? If it turns out to be true, fine. But I REALLY doubt it

It wasn't simply the article, but also the stuff mentioned during the U2 concert about Green Day. This thread wasn't made because we know it's true, but simply because the topic was being discussed in a couple different threads and it made more sense to combine them.

Oh man I don't know. I'd guess (and I'm only speculating, I know nothing) that Billie's tweet probably means it's not happening. If it came to Europe (which I'm sure it wouldn't, I can't see any reason why) I'd go just to see GD, but I don't think I could afford to get to the US and sharing the festival with two bands I don't like wouldn't motivate me to save up. That's just me adding my little bit of useless speculation

Half the fans would probably leave after metallica had played. It just won't happen :/

To put a nail in someone's coffin means to put them one step closer to death. Billie is saying that if he agrees to do this festival it will put the other two bands one step closer to death - musically as live bands  I see it as throwing down the gauntlet to them and saying "it'll be the death of you because Green Day's so much better live." That's my interpretation of his tweet.

Whether it will happen no one knows. I suspect its still just an idea at the moment and the the amount of planning and time and commitment from all the bands involved could mean it'll never happen.

Personally I would love to see it happen - not that it would be in the UK and I could go anyway - but just to see each band trying to out do each other with their performance! I mean which bands would aggree to not being the headliner?

Speaking as a Green Day fan Billie is of course completely right and they would destroy the other two!!

500 dollar nosebleeds to hear bono's annoying douchey tax-avoiding voice!

Exactly. I hate Metallica and U2. I do not want to have to skip out on seeing Green Day live because these bands are with them, raising ticket prices to a disgustingly high level.

I hope this is just speculation, and that Billie's tweet confirmed it.

I'd probably give it a miss if it happened. I'm not into U2 or Metallica so y' know. Festivals tend to be wayyyy outta my budget too haha. But if GD were to do a festival I'd rather see them do it with Muse or Blink or someone like that :P I was gutted I missed the Pop Disaster Tour. But as a few people have mentioned, I doubt there is much truth to this, but I spose we'll find out :)

If you notice they mentioned that they discussed "touring concepts". I believe this could refer to stage set ups. U2's 360 "Claw" stage was revolutionary in terms of spectacle. Giving that Metallica are planning a monumental tour to celebrate their 30th year, Lars quoted as to saying he would want it to be in a similar vain to "the Wall", and Green Day would probably be looking to out do the last tour, so maybe they were getting advice on doing a tour similar to U2's.

And we all know by summit they just mean epic piss-up.

And as I said Lars from Metallica has openly tried to do something with U2 for years. Here's the quote from 2008

Having performed with Deep Purple, The Stones, Iron Maiden, AC/DC and many more, Metallica have only one remaining ambition – to play with U2.

Lars said: “I’ll play at one in the afternoon, in a parking lot in Ireland, I don’t give a shit. As long as I can do that.” Over to you, Bono.

It would be so cool if they did the Pop Disaster Tour again, seeing as I was only 4 when it happened. It would be my dream to see my two favorite bands together, GD + Blink!

Say there's a festival, I don't think Green Day would enjoy doing that if they don't get to be the last band to play every night. Lol, I'm pretty sure that none of the three bands would want to kick it off first. And I'm not judging them.

Btw, some of you may not think that this would be an issue, but seriously, could you imagine Green Day playing at 4 in the afternoon?

As for a song collaboration, that'd be pretty neat.

The weirdest thing about this entire rumor is Billie Joe's tweet though.

It might mean "no way", or it might mean "Alright! I'm going to kick your asses and 'save' all of your fans."

I still believe that it will be a touring festival in a similar vain to Sonisphere

The idea for Sonisphere was first conceived when Stuart Galbraith was working for Live Nation, the organisers of Download Festival. The plan was to hold a series of events that would "translate into other territories". The event did not begin to materialize, however, until Galbraith left Live Nation for the events company Kilimanjaro Live.

Galbraith gained the support of the metal band Metallica, who were claimed to have helped curate the festival for later years; however, rumours were denied of Metallica signing a multi-million pound deal promising the band to headlining the festival for three years.

I believe the idea would be to have the 3 bands, Green Day, Metallica and U2, would be the curators of the festival. 3 very different styles, each playing a different day. The way it works with Sonisphere is that (using these 3 bands as an example) the festival could run in 2 different countries at the same time. For example Green Day could be headlining the opening night in lets just say England, while Metallica headline the opening night in France at the exact same time.

Also it would be silly if this was a single day festival. Fan clashes would be unavoidable. Reading over the Metallica message boards, they have a very negative opinion of Green Day and their fans . . . . .

Oh my, I doubt this will happen and if so I really wouldn't be happy about it.

If I'm going to see GD live, it's something I waited a looong time for. Like the atmosphere with all the other fans waiting for hours and looking into their faces and seeing they're feeling the same. Things like that which make their shows so special apart from them being onstage ;)

I couldn't imagine to share all this with Non-GD fans in the same pit. =/

Oh well, of course I would go anyway for Green Day :D

Well if it was one day, I'd imagine Green Day would be on first out of the 3, U2 would be last. Lets face it Metallica and U2 have been around alot longer

hmm interesting problem is a Metallica concert often cost a lot of money so do a U2 concert and a Green Day concert, How much money wouldn't those tickets cost!

and it would probably be in U.S :/ but still pretty cool idea..

argh, hopefully billie will tweet more informations later... but not in his "billie"-way-of-thinking :D

but if there will be a "festival" it will be somewhere in the u.s.a. for sure...so i will just become jealous of this xD

Meh, I don't think I'd pay the money to see that. Can't say I'm a huge fan of Metallica or U2 =/

Well, if it was a festival type of thing with either band playing a day and a possibility of only going one day and the tickets are affordable, I'm indifferent. I'd only go to Green Day.

If it's the three of them playing the same day.... no, I'd rather not. It would be impossible to get hold of tickets and the prices would be sky-high, plus I don't like U2 and Metallica is alright but I'm not a fan, so it would really just be a waste of space (three very big band with a very big amount of fans take up a lot of space in the crowd, money and time for me

This is all talking "if".

That's nothing that I would be excited about. U2 is annoying, I don't like Metallica, and the ticket prices would probably be insane.
