One thing I'd like to say about this song that could fit with both the two persons and two parts of one person theories.

During the last part of the song, you have two different voices (namely Billie's and Mike's) singing two parts, all "mixed up". I'm really oversimplifying things now, but throughout the whole album, Christian and Gloria each got their turns in letting their voices heard, in the different songs. American Eulogy could be where they finally get more together, they kind of co-ordinate, they conform to each other. The whole song could already be their combined effort, it's definitely not unlikely considering what's happened before it, but in the last part, they are singing both at the same time, they're not singing the same, but what they sing is alike. Then in See the Light they finally become one or have made peace with each other.

I am really annoyed with the way I said this, damn you, lacking English skills, but I hope it's kind of clear what I mean.

It does, and I think it fits well with both character interpretations -- either two separate characters become united, or one character speaking with two battling "voices" come to a unified understanding of the world. Or both at the same time! (sorry, brain popped again!)

I really love this song. It's one of my favorites on 21st Century Breakdown. I think what really makes this song is that Mike shares vocals with Billie. From Billie singing lead and Mike's "oooohhh"s in the background, to Mike doing the Modern World, this song is like an anthem and gets an amazing reaction from the crowd whenever it's played live, and may I ad,, it is very awesome live. It's one of those Green Day songs that you can't resist blasting it in your room, shutting the door, and playing air guitar in the mirror. :)

I love this song because of 2 reasons:

- Mike sings

- it´s like "JoS" and "Homecoming" in more parts  I don´t know why I love it, bit for me it sounds great when a song has more parts

This song on Awesome As Fuck is amazing. When Mike sings his part and then it ends with both him and Billie scream "I don't give a shit about the modern world!" (I think that's the line?)

This and 21st Century Breakdown are my favourite songs from this album :D

This song is so great.

If you could convice your other classmates to vote for American Eulogy as the class song, that would be an epic graduation! :D:lol:

wouldn't happen though due to explicit content

I can't believe I haven't posted here yet... I don't have much to add after all the awesome posts I read here though =)'

Some of the best lyrics ever -.

I want to take a ride to the great divide

Beyond the "up to date" and the neo-gentrified

The high definition for the low resident

Where the value of your mind is not held in contempt

I can hear the sound of a beating heart

That bleeds beyond a system that's falling apart

With money to burn on a minimum wage

I don't give a shit about the modern age

I still can't believe I got to hear it live... first Billie screamed "Are you ready for the end of the wooorld", and it really felt so magnificent and just incredible...

Really the only word I can think of to describe hearing this song live is absolutely epic.

Definitely my favourite performance (apart from Prague :P)

I've watched this so.many.times.

This. He needs to sing more. Such a punk voice. But Billie hogs the limelight.

Jokes.

But seriously, I don't understand why he sings so little. Recently, only this and Governator. So stupid.

Haha same. It's been really interesting reading through this thread. So jealous of you and anyone else who's heard it live! It's right at the top of my wishlist, even just watching it on video it's incredible.

Well I've gotta say, I love this song! Mike's verses are amazing, especially "Well I don't give a shit about the modern age!" :woot:. Even though there's SO much to love about the rest of the song I still find myself excitedly anticipating that line all the way through it , such a badass climax to the song. What absolute genius it was to have Mike singing those verses.

Really love the variety in the song, so many twists and turns. And it has so much energy, as soon as the calm intro's over it's going 100 miles an hour from start to finish. It's so frenzied you really do get that feeling of "mass hysteria". And the lyrics are just so great. A masterpiece!

One of the best songs on the record. Mikes part is my favorite part and I think it has the best lyrics.

I don't like the album version though. I think it's too slow and doesn't have enough emotion. The live version kicks ass.

My friend got so pumped up when he found out the lyrics said "niggers" in it, as if that tops the rest of the words in the song.

I do love this song...even though I have never hear it live ( but in Awesome as Fuck is just...EPIC!!!!)... :runaround:

Btw I'm a part of the class of 13 too....XD...and you know when it says.."deny the allegation as it's written FUCKIN LIEEES"..it always reminds me Jesus of Suburbia."and I live behind this hurricane of fuckin lies"...anyway it's a great and powerful song, it stands out in the album...maybe because there is Mike singingXD

...Vigilantes warning ya, calling Christian and GLORIA!! :eyebrows:
