WestboundSign!
Awesome! I hope you have an excellent time! My friends and I are seeing it again the day after that. 5/30. Thank you, I'm pretty sure I will How many times have you seen it so far? Just out of curiosity.
kelly42fox
I, also, agree with Esper being the best Will. And I was lucky enough to see Tony, Theo and Mary twice. Second time was Mary's last night. Great show. But only once with Billie. But that was well worth the 36 hour trip to NYC for it! Oh, and Stark as Tunny was the best. Forget who I saw in Chicago, but just did not like him at all. He was off key all night. Awesome for the Broadways cast! That would have been Scott... He's a sweetheart, but when he carries a tune in a bucket... the bucket has holes... Thank you, I'm pretty sure I will How many times have you seen it so far? Just out of curiosity. 7x in NYC and 5x in LA.

desertrose
Q&A: Leslie McDonel The Dallas native who's currently appearing in Green Day's American Idiot on tour, talks about the show and meeting Billie Joe Armstrong. http://www.theaterjones.com/features/20120515154938/2012-05-18/QA-Leslie-McDonel

momoluvGD
I am going to at least one of the Tampa shows! It will be my first time seeing American Idiot. Tampa is quite a hike for me. I would love to see more than one but I have to amek the decision on if I want to go to Louisiana, American Idiot w/merch or AI more than once. How many other GDCers are going to the Green Day show?! momoluvGD
I went to the websites of some of the theaters. You can buy most of the tickets now...You don't need to pre-order through the Idiot Club. Does anyone know if they do a a charity thing after the show? When I saw Wicked they sold posters signed by the cast and backstage tours with the cast, photos, raffles, etc. I'm just curious. I know they did it for Shrek, Billy Elliot, Elf, and some other shows, I just don't remember. :

They did a special charity show, too. They don't regularly.

The non-equity tour only has a couple on sale besides through season subscriptions. Broadway & most touring shows do collections for BCEFA only in spring (Easter Bonnet) and in the fall (gypsy of the year). It's over for the spring right now, so they won't have collections anymore during the run of this tour.
Bastard of 1967
I've seen John, Van, Chase, and Larkin as Johnny. Each bring these own spin on the character. My friend, who saw John and Van on Broadway and Gabe on tour, said that Gabe was more serious than the other two. I think each of the Johnnys sing really well, but what else they bring to the character differs them. I do agree that Esper was the best Will. I've heard that Jason was really good; I'm so sad that I missed him. Declan was really good as well as Van. Justin and Jake are about on the same level. Along that same line, Stark was the best Tunny. Ben was also amazing. Matt and Van were good. I heard Dan was good as well. Gabe was on for Van when I caught up with the tour in Dallas a little more than a week ago. At first I was disappointed, but he turned out to be quite good. There was an emotional connection you felt with him that wasn't quite there when John Gallagher had the part....can't quite put my finger on it, but it was something like the monologues and the lyrics he delivered landed with a bit more punch, a bit more pain if you will, than John's did. Nobody's topped Esper, Stark, and Rebecca (Naiomi Jones) yet. Those three owned those roles, and still do long after the original cast run ended.

-Bruce
Anyone going to the June 7th performance? I'm taking Amtrak from Portland to see it! I'm really excited. Is there any reason to show up early or should I just come when doors open?

Those three owned those roles, and still do long after the original cast run ended. Actually, if given more opportunities, Jason, Ben, and Leslie would probably have been excellent replacements as Will, Tunny, and Whatsername, respectively. I personally didn't see Jason but I saw Ben and Leslie twice and they were really fantastic. Ben's "21 Guns" made me cry and I actually never cried during that song. Leslie had a great combination of sexiness and strength. Christina was also great as Whatsername but I wouldn't use her as a replacement for Whatsername because she was the best Extraordinary Girl.
