Jaymee!!
Oh Kobez. You see what you do to the ladies? In a way I kinda feel a bit sorry for Larkin, as he will now and forever more never heard the end of his resemblance to Billie Joe. Way back in Toronto you could already tell it was bothering him that so many people kept teasingly calling 'Billie!', I wonder what it's like for him now? You should have seen him with his pup around. The girls thought it was so fantastic they were practically drooling (admittedly, I was a little too). Larkin will probably immediately shed the flat ironed black hair after the show... Lord, his real hair is ADORABLE! I will admit that when I first saw him walking around the theater plaza opening night in LA I did a double take... But I'd never call him Billie, even as a joke! That's just mean! I saw someone do it at the stage doors, and he didn't even flinch. I bet he's used to it by now.

When I met him only two people, me and another guy at the show, mentioned he looked like Billie. He didn't seemed annoyed, he just laughed. plaid ducky
Okay, this took me a while but here's what's been announced so far for the non-equity US tour. Admittedly, it makes me grumpy knowing that Europe and the rest of the country don't get to see Van! He will forever be Johnny! To be honest, non-equity tours are hit or miss, in terms of cast. If I remember correctly, Gaby (Whatsername on the current tour) came right out of college. Krystina left college to do the Spring Awakening tour before heading to American Idiot on Broadway. And we know that Jillian, despite having credits to her name, is only 18. The Spring Awakening non-equity tour cast had its hits and misses. However, one of their leads, Elizabeth Judd, is now on Broadway and one of their swings, Billy Lewis, took over Larkin's spot in the Hair equity tour. Usually what falters in a non-equity tour is the production. I'll be curious to see the set and the lights, etc. Funny that you mention that Van is your forever Johnny because John will always be Johnny in my head. Heh. I guess that's true, hit or miss. It's like that with anything... I've seen both John and Van... For me, Van just... digs into the character a bit more... I found him more relateable. I like his voice better, as well... I didn't like the musical, as something other than a Green Day related piece, until I saw Van as Johnny. But don't get me wrong, I respect John. He is, after all, the original.
Jaymee!!
I don't care who Plays Johnny, but to me Esper will ALWAYS be Will. No one else, doesn't matter how good they actually are, seem good enough to me.

plaid ducky
I've seen John, Van, Chase, and Larkin as Johnny. Each bring these own spin on the character. My friend, who saw John and Van on Broadway and Gabe on tour, said that Gabe was more serious than the other two. I think each of the Johnnys sing really well, but what else they bring to the character differs them. I do agree that Esper was the best Will. I've heard that Jason was really good; I'm so sad that I missed him. Declan was really good as well as Van. Justin and Jake are about on the same level. Along that same line, Stark was the best Tunny. Ben was also amazing. Matt and Van were good. I heard Dan was good as well.

I loved Esper as Will and agree with all the said statements. And I feel Stark was the best Tunny, at least he was in tune 99% of the time. I did see Van as Tunny once in NY... How many times have you seen the show, Ducky? Me = 12 7x in NY and 5x in LA. (I'm seeing it in Costa Mesa and SF, too. Crazy me). Thank God for lotto. I'm sad to say that I didn't see it with the full original Broadway cast, but I got to see most of them... Never saw Tony, Theo, and Mary... I fully admit that it was Billie Joe who drew me to Broadway... I HAD to see that.

Let's see... once in Berkeley, three times on tour... as for Broadway, we'll go with who I saw. Heh. Easier to count than actual performances. Johnny: John, Van, Chase Will: Esper, Van, Declan, Justin Tunny: Stark, Van, Ben, David St. Jimmy: Tony, Andrew, Kobak, Billie, Melissa, Davey, Chase, PJ Whatsername: Rebecca, Leslie, Christina, Corbin Heather: Mary, Leslie, Libby, Jeanna EG: Christina, Aspen, Libby Favorite Son: Josh, Andrew, Ben, Wallace Rock & Roll Boyfriend: Miguel, Declan, Gerard TMTS Male Solo: Theo, Gerard, Miguel TMTS Female Solo: Alyssa, Aspen, Corbin, Lorin Random Ensemble/Swing action: Sean Wing as Chase & Declan; Kobak in Declan & mid-show Brian tracks; Omar in basically all his tracks; Sydney in Ben & Andrew tracks; Jason as Theo; Mikey in Andrew and Chase tracks; PJ in Andrew track; Aspen in all her tracks; Corbin in all her tracks; Lorin in Libby (and Alysha as previously noted) track; Krystina as Libby; Jen in Krystina's track The only ensemble/swing I didn't see go on was Sean Michael Murray. And the only major understudies were Jason as Will and Jen as Heather. Fun fact: In the entire Broadway run (including previews) there were 25 performances with the entire original Broadway cast. They didn't even have a full cast for opening night. So, if you're sad that you never saw the OBC, you are not alone.

But that was well worth the 36 hour trip to NYC for it! Oh, and Stark as Tunny was the best. Forget who I saw in Chicago, but just did not like him at all. He was off key all night.
