One of the most special songs. And as personal of a story it is, everyone can relate. It's art at it's finest. Every big hurtle or conflict in my life, I find myself struggling with a "st. jimmy"....that part of you that just wants to lose control in a bad way. This song shouldn't be song of the week - it's the song of the century.

Everyone can relate I agree. Very personal if you just listen closely.

These lyrics changed my life entirely.

I lost control but got it back now.

The Jesus of Suburbia is a lie? No, but we are the waiting!

Gosh.

Jesus of Suburbia. The song that saved my life. The song I still believe in every single day. The song I live my life off of.

I can listen to this song forever and still feel the way i do about it today. It has impacted me, just like it has impacted all of you. Im not going to tell myself and all of you that i feel something about this song that you all dont, because that is probably a lie. I merely feel what you all feel. Im glad to be a part of the Green Day Community who also adore this song. We all have our ups and downs and just go through horrific things in our lives, and I'm glad to share this one piece of utopia with you all.

I'm the son of rage and love, the Jesus of Suburbia. The minute I heard those opening lines. I thought, "wow, this is it. This is that one thing I need." I'm getting that line tattooed on my arm, to know and remind myself that it saved me.

Home is where the heart is but what a shame, cause everyone's heart doesn't beat the same. Holy shit. Perfect. It defines the difference between us and them. Between good and evil. Between the things we do, and the things they do. We as a whole, as Green Day fans, as a bunch of punks, are so much different than whoever the hell called themselves cool.

I think Dearly Beloved is the part that gets me. I feel a sense of calmness, that everything is okay. With Billie's stunning lyrics and the bands calming, "its okay", backup vocals, its a part that makes me feel safe.

Finally to die in tragedy. To run away. And to find, what we all believe. Its says it right there. I think that's why we all love it so dearly. Because it is what we believe in. Jesus of Suburbia is the reason we are still here, and what we feel is ours.

I left home. I'm fine now. I am happy with a beautiful girlfriend and a band that not only work a miracles, but does something that impacts us all. And that is simply being Green Day. I'm happy. Life can't be better than this.

Rage and Love,

Austin.

This song is WHY I got into the band in the first place. I don't listen to it as often as I used to, but every time it comes on I can't skip it. I get this wave of emotion hit me hard and it's almost cathartic. I've gone through hell and back with that song, and this band was my best (and only) friend at a time when I needed it the most. I hear this song and I think of the unspoken connection I have with this band and other fans. Because of this song, I was able to find personal peace. I spent a lot of time alone, feeling every word and chord of this song hit me every time. The effect of it never goes away and it's extremely emotional to me. You have to be your own person in life or else the world will swallow you whole along with the rest of the people on the world just living day to day in a society that just doesn't give a shit.

I am the son of rage and love. The Jesus of Suburbia.

There's nothing wrong with me. This is how I'm supposed to be in a land of make believe that don't believe in me.

Fucking shivers everywhere, every time. Now I have to go listen to it.

EDIT: I totally forgot it mentions my hometown in the song. Anaheim, man, more like Ana-crime. Fuck this place right now.

Btw, I figure this is a good place to show off my tattoo, huh? lol I've shown it before, but it's been a long while.

I love this song and after reading parts of this thread and seeing how much this song means to people on a personal level confirms what I've believed for a long time about this song: it belongs in a time capsule.

I know, you can't really put a song into a time capsule, but if you could bury a song and dig it up years later--this is the one I want some kid to find years from now when studying early 21st century history.

This song for me has always just been an epic (and I hate the over use of this word) piece of art: Its twists and turns. It introduces the concept of the album. It describes our culture in a way that no other song has. And now I realize, it's helped people. I never understood the emotional attachment to this song until reading some of your posts--all brilliantly written. The song has certainly paralleled my life, especially since in 2004 I was in high school and now I'm sort of on another chapter of life. I cringe whenever I hear this album being bashed for being "all about politics." I'm going to guess anyone who has said that has not truly listened to this song or have given a single rational thought to the context of the entire album. This song tells a human story. The lyrics about leaving home to find yourself reach to a place in your soul and lets you know that while leaving home can be lonely and adventurous, it's something that every one experiences in some form.

I know this thread is old, but I'm thankful for reading the posts I did tonight and to everyone who shared their personal attachment to this song. Nearly eight years later after its been released and I'm still learning new insights about this piece of art I had missed before. That's when you know a song is one for the ages: You can listen to it repeatedly, maybe even delete it off a playlist (don't worry, I never did), dig it back up weeks or even years later and it's as fresh and exciting as when you first listened to it because you're still learning from it.

I hope Green Day realizes this is their masterpiece.
