COMETBUS #54 Green Day In China?!

So we are not getting scans because of copyright? Sorry Andres but I don't understand that reasoning when all the other magazines are scanned. The only difference is that other writers don't usually hurl 'uneducated' personal insults to fans.

It would be good then if a download was for sale with the money going to charity rather than into the pocket of a man who bad mouths Green Day fans. I don't know what gigs he has been at but I see tons of guys, (a lot with kids but somehow they are not classed as 'lost' or 'eerie') at concerts.

I wanted to read the interesting parts about Green Day and I am really pissed off as I refuse to pay for this on principle. I feel he has to be taught a lesson. I don't expect someone to download 90 pages of rambling, Just quotes about the band would be good.

this is just a warning, the retard police have been called.

buy the damn zine from GDA and stfu.

I don't suggest anyone order it through GDA unless they're willing to wait until 2012 to read it, and by that time the world will have ended anyways.

Damn the apocalypse.

Just so you know, we will be using a new distribution process and personnel. I expect it will go very smoothly and quickly once we receive the zines (which are on their way now).

Ouch. I was waiting for a comment like that. FYI, i'm not doing the distribution on my own, which is what I've done in the past. This time it will be handled by J'net with more people helping her. We'll make sure everyone's orders get out quickly.

I'm not going to harsh on you like others because a friend of mine who I respect greatly, when I talked to him about it, suggested the same thing. However, it is a relatively small part of the story, and while it's harsh in its reading, overall, the material is well worth it. Like I wrote on my blog, he has the right to his opinion, as do you, and he's a salty writer, so ultimately, just take it with a grain of salt and read it.

so I don't see why anyone has a problem with getting it from LastGasp.com

Plus, who doesn't love Pinhead Gunpowder!? Aaron Cometbus drums for em :)

The issue with LastGasp was the overseas rates. They charge $30 to Europe, $40 to Australia, hence, people did'nt want to pay that price for a book that costs $4.24 with tax in New York City.

And yes, we know he drums for PHGP. There were some issues with him and female fans when people saw them play last year at Gilman. So, there were still some feelings of frustration from that issue, combined with some of his writings in this volume.

I have a question, is this a good read or not? I've read that people are bothered about stuff but i'm confused and i don't know what it's about.

A lot of people seem to really like it. The part people are bothered about is relatively small. Here's a bit of a write up from larry livermore that describes what it's about, without giving many details away.

Thanks hon. I really like your way of thinking. Do you have a link to your blog? I'd like to read it.

Your friend can see what I am trying to say. I do appreciate Cometbus is entitled to his opinion and I don't take it personally. He was making judgements that were wrong and it looks like those same Green Day fans are now going to make him a lot of money, but that is their choice. I wasn't attacking anyone personally (unlike some childish morons that start name calling), but just trying to make people think about things before they buy.

Some people who post here state they are only into the music and have no interest in the band personally (and berate people who do). However they are now falling over themselves to buy this, a personal insight. I think some people get angry more at themselves for being a hypocrite and they start to get abusive. One of the posters here has her nose so far up Cometbus's arse she is either him in disguise or his mommy. There are also some people who have switched opinions when bullied. I have had personal messages in the past from people who say they agree with me but are too afraid to post their opinion because the bully brigade get too nasty, so the discussions often look more one-sided than they actually are. Shame really. maybe that is why some people have thousands of posts and others hardly any.

FOR THE MOTHERFUCKING WIN!!!!!!!!! Yes, I have been convicted by the retard police, Ive been in their care for some time now. Luckily I am let out for the occassional Green Day event.

it looks like those same Green Day fans are now going to make him a lot of money

There cant be any way that Aaron makes much $$ off his zine.

Personally, I have tried many times to crawl up his ass, unfortunately its so damn small. I would much prefer however to crawl in between his ears to hear what he is thinking.

All in all, I had some really harsh words about COMETBUS #54 and my opinions have softened on it. The absolute shock and horror of seeing those two paragraphs by a writer I am overly obssessed with and regularly superfan over sent me over the edge. I still think it will be difficult for 99.999% of the Green Day fans/readers to understand his perspective on what he is TRULY trying to express in that section of #54, but he is an intelligent man and understands that. Also, I think people SHOULD be falling over themselves to buy this. You will NEVER EVER EVER read more of an insiders view of the personal dynamics of Green Day. That is, untill Billie Joe puts pen to paper. Are you listening Billie??

All kidding aside I invite you to buy it and read it and form an opinion for yourself with an understanding of his unique perspective on life, come back and share it here.

Abbey

There are also some people who have switched opinions.

I am the first to admit that while my feathers are still ruffled by what he wrote, I am no longer ANGRY over it. I have switched my opinion based on some deeper thought and analysis. I was wrong wrong wrong in my interpertation of that section and what Aaron is trying to highlight. While I do not agree with the words he chose to attempt to get his point across I see what he means.

Its ok to change opinions. I do all the time. Espcially in this case when I sit back and really think about Aaron and his DEEEP DEEEEP beliefs about the world around him.

Did he says things about Green Day fans in general or just a certain group of Green Day fans...becasue from what I understand it was only about a certain group...at least that;s the way Larry Livermore made it sound....and in that case why would you care if you're not apart of that group of people?

Anyways...so is it a good read than? Will it only be available online?

I have to say, when I read responses like this (and the way Larry put his query), I get flummoxed. There are people who travel around to the shows a lot, but how Aaron characterized them just isn't true and it's hurtful. I don't understand how people don't understand that... whether they are a part of that group or not. When I wrote about this, I specially mentioned that and another part of the work that talks unkindly about fans, too. You can read my blog post here and maybe can then understand why some people would be upset by the characterization... which is what it was... and a highly inaccurate portrayal of people, some of whom from the GDC you may know. And yes, he did say at least one other thing about Green Day fans in general, too, that was a bit off the wall. To me.

Other than that, as many have stated, it's a great read, and yes, you can find it at some independent bookstores if you live near them and if they carry zines.

I really hope that this great conversation we have all been having doesn't turn into bashing, but continues to be the great discussion it should be. That would be so disappointing it became that, I can't even tell you how disappointing that would be.

I got this zine. I read it. I loved it. I loved the parts about Green Day. I loved the parts about being in new places. He really captured the band, crew, atmosphere really well. Very personal.

And to be honest, his take on the "fans" was only directed towards the swarms of people who showed up in mobs at the airport or in random places. Not to say they aren't "real" fans, but he really was only unkind to this instance of fandom. Not the people at the shows, or anything else. I think you guys are blowing this way out of proportion.

I wonder what the typical sale rate for one of AC's zines are, and how this one will differ. That should be interesting.

Around 10,000. This one will almost certainly sell a lot more.
