I can't say I love the song since I only just heard, but it's growing on me. I love the beat, it's catchy. Especially around 1:50 seconds into the song. I love old Green Day

I love almost all of SOSH because when you compare it too the likes of american idiot, you can see how much the lyrics and music has developed, it shows how they started and how they have changed, this is one of my favorite songs from this album.

my favourite lyric is the same as J'net's.

this song has such a personal meaning for me .

when i first got 1039, i used to not pay attention to it .

then i met this boy, and the first time i caught a glimpse of him, then all my thoughts were only of him ..

it's the same with paper lanterns and going to pasalacqua, those just fit my situation soo well .

every lyric from this song could really be written into my diary.. (i think i said this before)

it's just such a sweet and lovely song.

i can't choose if my favourite lyrics are either the ones j'net posted, or

i know that we're worlds apart, but i just don't seem to care.

these feelings in my heart only with you i wanna share

i think that they're both very well-written and so cute .

though this song tells us directly what it is about and hasn't got any hidden meanings and stuff, i

still think it proves that billie joes songwriting is amazing (what we all knew before, ofcourse! :D)

i mean this was one of the very first sonngs he ever wrote ..

and when you think of that, the lyrics are really really good and the melody is so catchy !

oh and i especially love the guitar solo

What a sweet song . Before I ever heard any of 1,039... I saw a lyric from this song, "the first time I caught a glimpse of you, then all my thoughts were only of you" in a Green Day book and I just thought it was so romantic and sweet, and I found the rest of the song was no different once I heard it. Love that lyric especially though.

And the whoa-whaaaaaaa-aaaa-aaaa-aaaaaaah part :D. Great song.

Simply reading the lyrics doesn’t give a complete impression of this lovely song. Something about the melody is so hauntingly sweet and evocative of that feeling of yearning for someone … someone unreachable.

So true! I couldn't put this into words but you have. The "whaaaaa"-ing sounds like yearning too but it's the whole sound of the song that creates that feeling.

This song is definitely a note-worthy number. Its a fantastic song considering it was on Green Days first album. Its a classic Green Day song in the sense that its somewhat hard-hitting at parts, but is lyricly beautiful also. The lines "I wish I could tell you, but the words would come out wrong" are an anthem to anyone who has every felt love. Its a feeling of hopelessness, yet somehow optimistic. Its a feeling of your heart being ripped from your chest, but its ok, because your throwing your heart out for the person you love. As BJ would put it, "Its like having a panic attack... and an orgasm all at once." Everyone can relate to this feeling, whether it be for a loved one, or sadness for a lost one. This is why this song is one I hold close to my heart and Im sure that Im not the only one.

For you J'net ---

I'll admit, when this comes on my Green Day mix, I don't pay much attention to the words -- mostly because I Billie's never been known for his articulation. But I do love the beat. Very primal in some respects. Plus the lyrics really show a very green (as in young) lyricist (the rhymes are a bit strained). I can imagine my 17 year old nephew writing something like this. The words aren't particularly deep, but they are honest and heart-felt. So while not my most favorite of songs, it does help illuminate Billie Joe's journey as a songwriter.

This is kind of late, but I just have to say that

I wish I could tell you, but the words would come out wrong

is one of the best lines ever. there's not a single day when I can't relate to this sentence.
