Oh...I like this song!

It's one of my favorites on Warning.

I think the best part is: "Tomorrow is too late to pretend everything's all right ".

Superb. Great insight Bastard of 1967.

I think with what has transpired since in Billie Joe's relationship with Adrienne, this compromise has been very successful so far :)

Indeed -- I'd hope they're both pretty pleased with how things have gone for them, especially recently with the show's success and all. :)

I never really got the role of trust in the whole thing, though. The song says that trust "comes only from such a liar", suggesting it's something that's not real

read my post. trust is a dirty WORD. it's always the flaky ones that say they're trustworthy, the real honest people have no need to use the word.

I simply love this song.

it's such a catchy song, the lyrics are really poetic - one of my favorite songs from Warning.

I think

~ ..."Trust" is a dirty word

That comes from such a liar

But "respect" is something I will learn

If you have faith ...~

is my favorite line.

I'm late this week noticing Church On Sunday is song of the week! I must say it's an excellend choice, haha.

It's a great song, from an even greater record. I love Warning so much. I love listening to Church on Sunday, especially on the record (as in, not when it's on shuffle)!

Bloodshot deadbeat and lack of sleep

Making your mascara bleed

Tears down your face

Leaving traces of my mistakes

I hereby solemnly swear to tell the whole truth

And nothing but the truth is what I'll ever hear from you

"Trust" is a dirty word that comes only from such a liar

But "respect" is something I will earn... If you have faith

Those are really awesome lyrics!

I'm basically in love with every single song on Warning, so haha  Church on Sunday is not an exception

I dance to it, it's just awesome  The lyrics and the stories behind Billie writing it, make it so much better I think

One of my favorites from Warning as well. And as you guys have already stated, it has some ingenious lyrics and it's a song that never fails to cheer me up.

Also, the first time I heard Static Age the first thing that came to mind was this song. They're pretty damn similar, apart from the vocal phrases.

Thanks for taking the time to write that out. I love it when people get all into it :)

This isn't one of my favorite songs off of Warning, but I still dig it. I particularly love the ending bit.

My respect is something I will earn if you have faith.

While listening the other day, I finally got the significance of that line. He has no respect for himself if she doesn't respect him.

Good -- but the first word of that lyric is "But", not "My", and "respect" is quoted in the lyric sheet..... so Billie is contrasting the words "trust" and "respect" in this verse. "Trust" has been blown to shreds by his lies and excuses ("'Trust' is a dirty word that comes from such a liar"), "But [your] 'respect' is something I will earn [again] if you have faith" -- that is, if you stay with me and we work this out together. It's a big "please help me even though I've hurt you, we're still supposed to be part of the same team and if you have faith in me, we'll get through this".

I wonder what Adie's response to this song was?

Well, they're still married. :) Beyond that I doubt we'll ever know.

Warning is one of my farvorite albums. And this song is the reason why I bought Warning in the first place

Bloodshot deadbeat and lack of sleep

making your mascara bleed

tears down your face

leaving traces of my mistakes

I love that the chorus is right after these lines

And for some reason I Iove when Billie sings about mascara tears

The whole song is awesome! And the lyrics are amaizing!

One of my favourites from warning

I always use the first two lines as motivation when I am procrastinating or feeling worthless or whatnot

I love this song, and it's been stuck in my head for a couple of days. It can be very persistent, that way. My favorite line is "I'm not getting any younger as long as you don't get any older." I think that's a common theme among couples. An old saying goes "she marries him hoping he'll change and he marries her hoping she won't." I probably didn't get it exactly right there but we all compromise with the responsibilities to our partner and the life we've made together, and that is the way life is, unless you don't want a partner. This song is very poignant and Billie really put it out there. He and Adie certainly seem happy. I love a song that tells a personal story, the way this one does.

Bastard of 1967, thanks for your insights as well.

Hope to see some of you in NYC a week from today!! Fingers crossed that the weather will be clear - even though I know it will be cold.

Probably my third favorite song on Warning. I just love this song n_n

Bloodshot deadbeat and lack of sleep

Making your mascara bleed

Tears down your face

Leaving traces of my mistakes

If I promise to go to church on Sunday

Will you go with me on Friday night?

If you live with me, I'll die for you

And this compromise

^ Totally my favorite part
