^ Don't even bother feeding the troll ...

I wish there was a pic or a video of me handing Billie the bear. There's a video on youtube but it's to short and idk if it's even the 8pm show.

I know it's not related to this post but I made a .gif of Billie saying happy birthday to you, lol. Hope you don't mind!

Is there an original video to it? Like, Robin do you have it?

That's really cool, what better Birthday present than having the man himself wish you Happy Birthday. You can play that to yourself every year (or day!) from now on! :P

i was thinking the same thing! what coincidence that U2 makes a musical right after Green day does eh? =/ too bad theirs is someone elses comic book they just added music too that the actors keep getting hurt performing

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, Bono and The Edge had been working on that musical for a really long time now, way before even AI (the album) was done...but that still didn't mean that it wouldn't be filled with #fail (even if Julie Taymor is involved) :whistle

There was a Twitter discussion yesterday with @NewYorkTheater about Bono going to his first preview of Spider-Man only a few days ago. He's the composer of the music and he only went for the first time yesterday? Egads! I tweeted back to @NewYorkTheater how Bono was unlike Billie Joe and Green Day regarding their respective shows. Green Day would have never just sat back and let someone else handled their stuff. They don't phone it in, as far as I can tell, ever.

Silly Bono... he went to see American Idiot before he went to see his own dang show, lol.

In all fairness, I think it's like comparing apples with oranges. American Idiot came together fast, whereas Spiderman - as far as I can see - is this gargantuan enterprise that took forever to even get to previews. As far as I know, it wasn't in previews when Bono went to see American Idiot. Maybe it was so fucking huge, with so many other elements outside of the music, that he felt like he needed to be hands-off and let other people do their stuff till it got into some kind of coherent shape where he could focus his input. Lol, U2 line coming here - ' I always had the feeling it was out of control'!! The guy had to have spinal surgery after falling offstage over the summer, and then U2 had to make up for tour dates missed due to this - they have a commitment to their fans, and how would it have been if they'd put the show before that? I'm thinking of how people were pretty ticked-off every time they thought Green Day were giving more attention to AI on Broadway than to promoting 21CB.

Anyway - AI is not Spiderman, they're two different animals. Billie Joe and Bono are different artists, with different approaches to stuff, and I think each is worthy of respect. Plus - Billie Joe doesn't have Arachne to deal with, lol!!

From Gerard's Twitter:

ATTENTION THEATERGOERS! EVEN THO UR FLASH IS OFF WE CAN STILL SEE UR ORANGE LIGHT ON UR CAMERA. YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ANYONE!

Please don't take pictures during the show. Honestly, it's not just me being a "snobby theatergoer," but if it's a distraction to the cast on stage, then you shouldn't do it.

I didn't say that Bono wasn't worthy of respect, I'm saying that he doesn't seem to have been as involved in the production as a composer than most composers. I've read a lot about this show, and frankly, his name seems to come up more in passing than in having real involvement. But, I'm not as enamored of U2 as I used to be back in the 80s or 90s. They are still great performers, but I unfortunately find them kinda annoying these days.

Bono and the Edge are the composers of the music and the conversation began when NewYorkTheater mentioned that the great composers and lyricists of shows had a higher level of involvement in their own musicals. The show has been in previews for almost a month now and Bono just showed up at a show. That doesn't show the highest level of involvement, in my opinion. Green Day was also on tour when AI was getting off the ground, too, but they seem to have been more involved, probably because it's their own work as opposed to "just composing music" for the show. When Bono went to see AI, Spider-Man was either in rehearsals at the theater or had just started, and I've read nothing about him having gone to any of the rehearsals, and I read a lot about Spider-Man.

American Idiot was being working on at least one year or slightly more before it got to Berkeley, it didn't come together fast and neither did Spider-Man. Billie Joe met with Mayer around early 2008 and the Vassar workshop was when, early 2009?

I stick to my opinion, if you write music for a musical, you should be more involved in it.

But yea, at least he didn't have Arachne to deal with!

Oh, Gerard. And he said it IN.ALL.CAPS.

But seriously guys. If you're one of the people recording, could you cool it? It tends to piss off the actors. Not to mention it's, y'know, illegal. Also pictures. That's rude and distracting.

Yes. When I was lining up to get in, there were people milling about that I could tell weren't going in, but also not just chilling.

He continued on Facebook when someone responded "if you're gonna be sneaky, at least cover all your bases."

Or here's an idea DON'T DO IT. Cuz not only should u not it annoys the shit outta the actors too. We don't know where those photos or videos will end up!
